toddler eaten contents of herb rack - I think this is harmless?

No spices have been eaten, which would be a bit different. They have eaten rosemary, thyme and sage - I don't think there is anything to worry about there, is there? Not my toddler! Not my house!

I live rurally and when we moved and had no WiFi, I barely had a phone signal. I was able to WhatsApp as the messages eventually sent or came through, but I was unable to use any other aspect of the Internet and certainly couldn't Google anything. What's so difficult to understand about that?

OP has already said it's moving day, which generally means no WiFi and being extremely busy.

Which poison hotline?

do you have the number? Might be useful for o/p or for future reference.

The OP's friend couldn't use it anyway. She WhatsApped because she doesn't have a phone.

I dont know why all these posts! I certainly use whatsapp all the time without internet. In fact I turn off the internet on my phone to use it at work, as it doesn't work very well on the work internet.

If you turn off WiFi (which I assume you mean by internet) and you're still using WhatsApp then you're using mobile data. And if you have mobile data, you can access the Internet.

Happyher · 28/07/2024 19:18

I doubt the toddler in question has eaten enough but sage is a hallucinogenic if consumed in quantities or smoked

I dont really care, what any of you think, would just like an answer to the question. Are any of these herbs dangerous? Rosemary thyme, sage.

Thank you

Perhaps try google? And stop treating strangers as if they work for you?

You don't go on MN much?

I think you need to read OPs posts again.

You obviously missed op's last post (which has since been zapped by Mumsnet) that said we were all horrible and she was taking the child to A&E.

HMW1906 · 28/07/2024 19:27

alloweraoway · 28/07/2024 17:26

No you dont, I turn off the internet on my phone to use whattsapp.

Anyway, the situation is that a mother on moving day with no electricity and no internet has used whats app and data to try and find out if any of these herbs are worrying, as her toddler has eaten them.

If you have an answer, to the actual question, I would be grateful. As far as I can see, googling ,the answer is no, nothing to worry about. But if anyone has any actual personal knowledge, I would be grateful

You do know 3/4G is internet don’t you OP? Your friend is having you on if she says she doesn’t have internet whilst managing to WhatsApp.

But back to the original question. The kid will be fine if it’s the basic herbal leaf preparations. If it was the oil version of them it would be different.

I do. But the entitlement with the tone and wording of this was quite something 😆

No i saw that. A&E isnt necessary, but that's not what I was referring to.

I was replying to the idea that she hadn't already tried googling it. She has. That's what the images I posted show.

Henbags · 28/07/2024 19:31

Please don’t go to A&E due to consumption of dried herbs. This is why we are on our knees.

Shan5474 · 28/07/2024 19:31

I doubt the toddler has eaten them in huge quantities as they’d be really strong and would probably require washing down with a drink. I can’t imagine anyone of any age getting through a whole jar

You could have googled this in half the thyme

was scrolling for this. thankyou

Shan5474 · 28/07/2024 19:36

Google says 4-12g of DAILY intake of these herbs may be harmful and the only action to take if they’re ingested in high quantities is to wait and see if any symptoms like stomach ache or mouth irritation arise. I don’t think A&E is needed

Babies eating the internet is a bigger issue, all they can do is WhatsApp each other.

That's Salvia Divinorum, the standard version would be more akin to standing beside a burned Sunday Roast, rather than flying amongst the Ancestors.

alloweraoway · 28/07/2024 19:52

Thank you for people who were nice, and helpful, no thankyou at all to the others.

He went to A and E with his Dad and got rushed through as a potential emergency. I think because not 100% sure if he ate any other herbs as well. He has been admitted for observation. He has vomited, and also has some spots around his mouth. Rosemary can do things to blood pressure, apparently so he is being kept in for observations. (I think it was blood pressure, ) As he seems to have eaten quite a lot of it! They were fresh leaves, from the box that was going to go into the fridge, not dried in jars, which he probably wouldn't have been able to open, I don't expect.

Anyway, apart from the sickness and sore mouth, they think he will be ok.

I'm sure it would be impossible to swallow a teaspoon of dried herbs without washing it down with a glass of water, let alone several jar's worth.

I'm going to say there's nothing to worry about because it didn't happen.

Of all the things that never happened, that never happened the most.

Blimey OP, I hold my hands up and apologise for anything unsupportive I said. Hears hoping all is well, and you were right to go to A&E. good luck. X

I'm guessing the OP means her friend doesn't have wi-fi.

My desktop Windows 11 PC doesn't have wi-fi either, the computer uses an Ethernet lead to the router, and it has WhatsApp running on it. Very handy actually. Why does everybody think internet always uses wi-fi?

Do you really believe that a toddler ate large quantities of dried herbs? Or that the OP is the only person on the planet whose whatsapp doesn't require the internet to send messages? Unfortunately some people like telling stories about hospital visits because others are less likely to challenge it.

Why does everybody think internet always uses wi-fi?

Probably because "everybody" doesn't think that.
