toddler eaten contents of herb rack - I think this is harmless?

No spices have been eaten, which would be a bit different. They have eaten rosemary, thyme and sage - I don't think there is anything to worry about there, is there? Not my toddler! Not my house!

You’re going to take the child to A&E rather than GOOGLING IF THE THREE HERBS ARE TOXIC?

and you’re annoyed that people here don’t have the answer when none of your WhatsApp group has the intellect (or internet?) to find out yourself?

MY GOD 🤦🏽‍♀️

Scirocco · 28/07/2024 18:42

If you're worried, phone 111. But you still need internet for WhatsApp.

It’s possible to use a google workaround to use WhatsApp without an internet connection. There are several YouTube videos showing you how to do it.

WhatsApp is exploring this option with a small number of beta testers. It is not in general use.

Because 4G or 5G is a data connection that allows internet access.

Do posters really not understand how the internet can be accessed?

You really are the expert on what people should and should not know, eh?

Ok, back to the herbs. The only thing that would concern me slightly is the rosemary because when dried it's very hard and spiky. I'd be surprised if a toddler who put it in Its mouth didn't spit it out straightaway.
It's also strong tasting.
(Fresh is so much better and even then it should be very finely chopped, unless you're putting whole sprigs of it under a leg of lamb before roasting.)

personally I’d phone 111 and check, they might also suggest signs to look out for that indicate needing further investigation
the link is to scientific sources noting that culinary herbs can be toxic in large doses

To be fair to OP, MN is full of people asking stupid questions.

I don't know how a good proportion of posters actually function in real life.

How can anyone who has a mobile phone not know it accesses the internet via wi-fi or mobile data.

sunglassesonthetable · 28/07/2024 18:53

OP asks if anyone has " personal knowledge" after googling "no".

You know , just checking.

But the absolute weapons on here know better.

Breezy up there?

Well a particularly dim Scottish MSP managed to rack up an £11,000 data roaming charge on holiday by apparently not knowing streaming on a phone without wi-fi uses mobile data.

S0livagant · 28/07/2024 18:55

I doubt the toddler ate them, they are likely tipped out somewhere. Toddlers have a natural aversion to strong tasting foods, unless maybe family are eating the same. Dry herbs as well, they just aren't going to be able to swallow without forcing them down with water. They may have tasted them then emptied them.

Is it a revelation for you how the internet can be accessed?

Differentstarts · 28/07/2024 18:57

If your a teenager doing this as a tiktok challenge and want to know if it's safe. Don't do it. If it's actually a toddler there is no way they have ingested much and more likely poured it somewhere

Oh give over. 111 exists for a reason.

mixedpeel · 28/07/2024 19:00

If you don’t have a generous data allowance on your phone you can get in the habit of thinking you don’t have full access to the internet without WiFi.

Back to the OP - it’s clear that their first thought was that they personally thought it would be ok, so wouldn’t leap to advising the mum (who is in the throes of trying to move into a new house) to get in the queue for a 111 call. Makes sense to just double-check on a friendly forum where lots of parents might have had a similar experience.

Except … no, lots of people felt the need to miss the point of the post and focus on the internet issue, and others reckon every answer to every question is easily answered by google, which isn’t necessarily the case either.

We KNOW that.🤦‍♀️

It's also clear that some people get a kick from being snarky and 'clever' on line.

Ok I've took one for the team and just tried a teaspoon of Thyme, for some reason I have 3 jars of it.

There is simply no way this kid has had any concerning amount of herbs whatsoever. Its most unpleasant.

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

DoIWantTo · 28/07/2024 19:09

Depending on how much there may be a bit of loose stools but not anything I’d be worried enough to call a doctor about. Make sure they’ve got plenty of water though, the taste of them will haunt his mouth for days to come Grin
