After seeing the new footage, I believe the officers actions were understandable.

The police officer lost his temper and isn't fit to serve. Sadly this is the latest in a long line of male police officers behaving in a disgusting way.

That said, I wish the police (and teachers and medics and those in the front line in other jobs where they have to put up with shit) were paid vastly more. There's a reason there's a massive shortage in these professions. What we need is for the crap ones to be weeded out, so that we have professional organisations which run properly and where those who serve are properly rewarded

I think if the whole video had come out at once instead of the family releasing one that made them look like victims and then outright lying about what happened, the narrative people are pushing would be very different.

if you’ve put yourself in the position where the police are having to use extreme force to arrest and restrain you, I don’t much care what happens to you. Even if it means an officer booting you in the face. Don’t attack the police and you’ll be alright.

Thought they were in for a nice bit of comp didn’t they. Only bit of free stuff that guys going to get is a nice stay at his majesties pleasure

This is why I dislike all these videos that are taken. They only show one small part. Normally missing the before hand

As far as I understand it these are two totally different videos, the first was by some kind of bystander the one yesterday (is that the one the OP means) is from CCTV which presumably has to go through some kind of procedure before it can be made public.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 28/07/2024 09:39

The policeman obviously shouldn’t have done this, apart from the clear moral issues he must have known someone would be filming. But I don’t give a shit about the brothers who started it, and broke a woman’s nose, with their compo faces.
I hope that kick in the face felt as least as painful as her broken nose.

How many people do you know who want to do these jobs?

Of course he got it wrong he's a bloody human being in full fight or flight mode. But all the usual suspects will call for him to be hung, drawn and quartered while the actual offenders will cry racism, demand compensation and get 3 weeks community service for their offences.

People are sick of lawless thugs who think it's totally OK to attack armed police officers. This country is going down the toilet more every day.

This. 100%

I didn't need to see the footage to understand the officers actions. It was clear from the description of the event.
But understanding that in that moment, his adrenaline had kicked in, he was probably terrified for himself and his colleagues and the public around them, and he lashed out. And understanding that the people involved had been involved in 2 incidents prior and are clearly violent thugs.....nome of that makes what he did "right" or justified.

It's not his job to dish out punishment.
And losing his temper in those circumstances Doesn't make him a bad person.
It would NEVER have happened if he hadn't been attacked first, but it still shouldn't have happened.
All these things are true, none of us are perfect.

The independent investigation(s) need to run their course.

CookStrait · 28/07/2024 09:44

A good battering is all that some people understand.

SloaneStreetVandal · 28/07/2024 09:45

This was a serious assault on armed police, the reaction was split second stuff. Looking at the whole picture, the officer in question should NOT lose his job.

And a big part of why it's going down the toilet is because people like you support/excuse retributive 'justice' being dished out by those who are supposed to uphold the law.

If the officer had done his job with the professionalism that should be demanded of the police this would have been a straightforward case. Now, because of his actions the offender is also a victim.

OhHelloMiss · 28/07/2024 09:49

WhyIOughtTo · 28/07/2024 09:37

Can you imagine if these men had managed to seize the guns?

They didn't 'manage' and they didn't try either.

Officers didn't know that at the time

Toerags are lucky they weren't shot!

HRTQueen · 28/07/2024 09:50

The policeman who kicked the man in the head is not suitable to work in this area as he was unable to control himself the man was laying on the floor at the time at the point of time he was not a treat he was not defending himself and he brutally attacked him

police (and other professions that have to deal with violence/physical attacks/threats) ) have to remain in control and have extensive training for this

he will most likely be put on a desk job which is the right role for him not dealing with the public as he can’t manage violent situations without resorting to unnecessary
violence himself

OhHelloMiss · 28/07/2024 09:51

I mean, who attacks, punches and chokes armed police?

Who dragged these idiots up? The 'mother' seen with them? She must be so proud...

It's vital for incidents like this to be considered on merit, not on a text book ideal.

The majority of police will never find themselves in a scenario like this, fortunately.

The officer should keep his job.

Getonwitit · 28/07/2024 09:52

We all knew that these lads were trouble but the media choose to show them being battered by the police. Of course these lads kicked off first, wonder what their grandstanding gobshite of a lawyers has to say now? No doubt he will still blame the white coppers. Chancers and liars.

Exactly.

I support the police officer wholeheartedly.

Well the good news is: if people don't stop giving the police a kicking all the time, they will find other jobs. Just like all the nurses, teachers, prison officers etc who are retiring and no replacements to be found.

And then you can all do those jobs yourselves! Since you will all be so good at it! Facing violent, lawless thugs every day for 30k a year!

Welcome to the Thunderdrome. You'll love it there when all the frontline staff are no longer there to be your human shields.

There will ALWAYS be people who want this job. Comparing police to NHS and teachers is a poor comparison.

A more comparable job would be security guards, prison wardens etc, many of whom failed to become police officers.

EsmaCannonball · 28/07/2024 10:05

A lot of focus has been on the female officer who has her nose broken (her blood is spattered all over the floor) but the male officer who did the kick was punched repeatedly in the head, hard and fast, by two men, one of whom had jumped on his back and grabbed him round the neck. He didn't taser this man himself so may not even have realised he had been tasered when he was on the floor. It looked as if the man was trying to get up.

So, you've taken repeated blows to the head from two men who have been involved in previous violent incidents at an airport, you are in panic mode and very probably dazed from the blows, you are dealing with two men who are acting like they have committed a crime so bad it is worth beating up three armed police officers to escape arrest: would you let him get up from the floor? Would you bend down so he can grab or hit you again?

Whoever put the original video up was looking to start sectarian riots. The lawyer and the two brothers were willing to promote that original, dangerous narrative. These are people who would have let Manchester burn for their own ends.

The people I know who do these jobs, are far too experienced to pass judgement without a thorough understanding of what preceded this video (and any other context).

Dutchesss · 28/07/2024 10:08

It's a very fine line. It looks like they detained the suspect a couple of times and he broke free grabbing for the guns, so when the suspect was detained the final time the officer wants to make sure he stays down at all costs. The officer's lives are at risk and it happens in seconds, it's not like the suspect is detained fully and then kicked, it's all happened within a few seconds. If someone were grabbing for a weapon from me I'd want to make sure they have no chance of getting it. The officer clearly hasn't done it out of spite but out of fear of the suspect breaking free again.

Oh this is fantastic! So it's MY fault now! That's a twist even I didn't see coming in this sorry tale 😂

Why don't you go back and read the bit where I said the officer clearly did wrong?

It being MY fault that thugs I never met attacked armed police officers is probably my favourite example of MN wokery I've ever read 😂

Do you know this guy?

iamtheblcksheep · 28/07/2024 09:30

I really do blame the media for the protests. If the full video had been shown, very few people would have had an ounce of sympathy for the POS on the floor.

Totally agree with this, but unfortunately it won’t be shown I doubt. Wondering if your a fellow employee in T2 who also watched the WHOLE situation unfold.

Emmaheather · 28/07/2024 10:10

If you can't control your temper in challenging and violent situations you shouldn't be a police officer

No it's really not and the problem is too many people don't seem to see what the underlying connection is. Thugs behaving like thugs without consequence.

But go ahead take a career change!
