I have changed my name for this, but there is so much negativity and hate towards JSO, Insulate Britain, and ER on these boards, that I really want to risk putting my head above the parapet and saying "WOOOHOO! I AM RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!"

These are wonderful people sacrificing their own liberty and careers to bring attention to their cause - and it really works! There have been huge benefits, so many companies are aware of them, and taking steps to avoid being in the firing line by upping their investments in environmental mitigations.

And the huge amount of attention that insulation got- it is now high up on so many agendas! Why did it take protesters gluing themselves to the road to do it? It should have happened anyway, but it didn't. People had to make that sacrifice, but themselves in danger, lose jobs, careers, liberty, etc, to get results.

People moan about having their days disrupted, etc by JSO, without caring how much their days are going to be disrupted by the climate crisis running out of control.

I have cancer. I couldn't get to a chemo appointment once because of JSO. I 100% support their actions. I think their cause is so much bigger than one person. They are acting to protect millions.

No doubt people will come here and bitch and moan and I don't care really, at least anyone from JSO who is on MN will see my thread title.

And people who missed funerals? The two who died while JAO were protesting? - they were hit by a car while waiting in the traffic caused by the Dartford Crossing protest. What about those OP? They’re dead - they can’t come back to their families. Or it’s fine, as they died for a good cause? I work for a green energy company, and even we think JSO are a bunch of fucking idiots. Wish they were jailed for longer.

Genuinely couldn't make this ^^ up!😂

You've name changed from one anonymous name to another anonymous name, to 'risk' putting your head above the parapet on the internet!

Brilliant! 🤣

Aposterhasnoname · 27/07/2024 22:54

are you right behind this raging hypocrite too.

Just Stop Oil are my heroes!
ForGreyKoala · 27/07/2024 22:56

Wonderful people????? 😖

You would do better to find more worthy heroes OP.

Portakalkedi · 27/07/2024 22:57

They're a bunch of privileged twats who don't have anything else to do, hope the Tarquins and Cressidas enjoy their time in jail. Their actions have caused more use of energy, so well done you dick heads. There are so many other things they could do if they feel so strongly. Amazed that the justice system for once actually worked to sentence them.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 27/07/2024 22:57

I applaud JSO for all that they do to raise awareness of that. I'm so grateful that there are people out there who willing to put their liberty on the line for the good of us all.

How much awareness do you think they've raised in the USA or Brazil or India or China?

I wonder how many of them
Fly
Drive
Replace their mobile phones every year
Buy out of season fruit and veg
Buy cheap imported fashion

My elderly mother has a suggestion for the ones that glue themselves to streets and buildings: 'Just leave them there. Sooner or later they'll need the toilet.'

MagneticSquirrel · 27/07/2024 22:59

😂

Nope! Companies have been investing in environmental mitigation due to various net zero and other Gov policies. Also CSR investment is sometimes it’s a requirement to tender for work or improves scoring in a competitive tender. JSO and other criminals unsafely causing disruption by blocking ambulances etc cannot take credit any positive changes in business behaviour!

Event and companies have also been investing in extra security and intelligence to intercept protestors. Funnily enough extra security for events probably increasing carbon footprints for events cos extra security personnel have to get to events and extra surveillance kit all use more resources! (Electricity etc)

LadyWiddiothethird · 27/07/2024 22:59

They are arseholes, delighted they got prison sentences.

dottiehens · 27/07/2024 23:00

Why did you change your name? 😂 Worry to be found out?

lazzapazza · 27/07/2024 23:01

Have you actually imagined life without using oil and its derived products? It would be like living in the stone age.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 27/07/2024 23:01

@incognit Would you care to comment on them throwing substances on Stone Henge which was harmful to the lichen? How was that compatible with their views and morals?

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 27/07/2024 23:03

Here.. have a cookie. Well , better not turn the oven unnecessarily. Or add any choc chips . Or sugar . Uhmm have some flour and water? But that's a waste of water.

Never mind, have a rock. You can name him Dave. He was ethically sourced from my garden.

Blueuggboots · 27/07/2024 23:04

I work in custody and deal with some pretty dodgy people.
Not one of those people I've met has been as rude or entitled as the JSO protesters I have dealt with. Theyre idiots.

Montydone · 27/07/2024 23:05

I get why people are furious about the types of action JSO engage in. If my child had been really unwell/ or I’d been in labour (or countless other examples) and we hadn’t been able to get to hospital because of them blocking roads through action, then I would’ve been incredibly upset and angry.
The problem is that less “disruptive” demonstrations don’t get air time on the news. There can be thousands of people peacefully protesting about the climate breakdown and it doesn’t get any air time.
So what would people recommend protestors doing? How can they get their messages across without angering the public?

Because it really is terrifying what is happening to the climate. Scientists predict that global heating could increase by 2.5 degrees over the next century, leading to extreme weather conditions, wild fires, floods, famine, food shortages, displacement of people and conflict, all of which (directly and indirectly) will affect our children’s lives (and I think we can all agree on here that we want good futures for our kids!) and are already affecting many children’s lives across the world.

It is clear that we do need to stop emitting this much carbon into the environment and invest in renewable energy.

So what actions could the protestors take that would get people on board rather than piss them off? (And this is a really genuine question)

AdviceNeeded2024 · 27/07/2024 23:05

@incognit As you are supportive of their cause, I am also interested to hear your views on the carbon footprint of China and India and how you foresee JSO or anyone similar protesting there and how they can improve their profile and fight against climate change in these places where most of the climate issues come from?

Montydone · 27/07/2024 23:07

This is an interesting point, what do you think would be a better approach?

Howdidtheydothat · 27/07/2024 23:08

Part of the reason that they received such long sentences is the way they behaved in court. They had complete disregard for the judge and rules of court. The press couldn’t report it at the time ( can only do so after the case) but on Radio 4, a journalist told the story. They behaved like absolute morons and the judge had to repeatedly send the jury out while he restored order

Montydone · 27/07/2024 23:09

There are also loads of doctors and nurses and psychologists who are members of these and similar organisations who are terrified about the impact to their patients mental and physical heath. Lots of young people are experiencing climate anxiety because they’re growing up in such an uncertain world

incognit · 27/07/2024 21:33

Yes, I know some of them personally, no you can't embarrass me, yes many of them are retired, 70s, 80s, even 90s, - so what? They are not sacrificing careers, but are risking their safety and liberty. Students and working ones are risking their careers as well. I don't need to post you any links, because I have experienced it in person, sitting in meetings. They have a massive impact.

ODFOD
JSO are where they should be. Prison. I hope they find something to have a sit down protest on the yard about... I wonder if Roger Hallam still objects to petroleum jelly after a week inside....?

Montydone · 27/07/2024 23:12

I think this is because they were denied the right to explain the motivation behind their crime, which is really concerning in relation to freedom of expression

Glitterybee · 27/07/2024 23:12

They are cunts.

That is all.

AzureAnt · 27/07/2024 23:14

These people should really go and superglue themselves to a motorway in China or Russia but ain't gonna happen is it. They would probably be shot.
Unlike our wishy washy police force who protect them instead of dragging the fuckers away and letting the tax paying public earn a crust/get their sick children to hospital/bury their dead

Me too. I bet they were proper cunts that wanted to use the email room [no such thing in prison BTW] as soon as they could. Pah ha ha!

Montydone · 27/07/2024 23:17

The vitriol on here is really interesting. It almost seems that these activists disgust people more than those who commit violent crimes including sexual assaults (and in fact their sentences were longer). Is this because they are perceived as privileged and posh? Is this because of the disruption to so many people’s lives on the M25? Again I’m genuinely not trying to be facetious, just really interested about why they are so hated when the motivation behind their crimes are very different to those who commit violent crimes. Or do people think that they’re not really motivated by climate breakdown and there is another agenda?
