I have changed my name for this, but there is so much negativity and hate towards JSO, Insulate Britain, and ER on these boards, that I really want to risk putting my head above the parapet and saying "WOOOHOO! I AM RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!"

These are wonderful people sacrificing their own liberty and careers to bring attention to their cause - and it really works! There have been huge benefits, so many companies are aware of them, and taking steps to avoid being in the firing line by upping their investments in environmental mitigations.

And the huge amount of attention that insulation got- it is now high up on so many agendas! Why did it take protesters gluing themselves to the road to do it? It should have happened anyway, but it didn't. People had to make that sacrifice, but themselves in danger, lose jobs, careers, liberty, etc, to get results.

People moan about having their days disrupted, etc by JSO, without caring how much their days are going to be disrupted by the climate crisis running out of control.

I have cancer. I couldn't get to a chemo appointment once because of JSO. I 100% support their actions. I think their cause is so much bigger than one person. They are acting to protect millions.

No doubt people will come here and bitch and moan and I don't care really, at least anyone from JSO who is on MN will see my thread title.

Perhaps they are trying to gauge public opinion, and get people signing petitions to release the JSO criminals, so Cressie doesn’t miss her brothers wedding, and Lou doesn’t miss her daughters.

I mean it’s completely tone deaf, but as I said in a previous post, they come across as either mad or stupid.

My DH works for one of the supposedly file fossil fuel companies - slaves 14hrs a day 6 days a week setting up the financial and legal frameworks for its subsidiaries around the world so that it’s incredibly gifted and ingenious engineers and scientists can work on green projects, such as oceanic solar farms and the roll-out of EV charging infrastructure in service stations and high streets across the UK, EU and, well, globally. Liaising with government ministers in the UK and around the world - yep, China and India, negotiating for contracts to manufacture parts to enable the role-out of such technologies, trying his damnedest to persuade them to invest in them and transition from fossil based systems themselves. Lobbying those that need to make the decisions to change in Downing Street and Beijing.

He works with extraordinarily educated and motivated people who have dedicated their lives - university degrees, MScs, PhDs in chemical, bio and electrical engineering, determined to find greener energy systems and cleaner fuels. Because they have families and care for their planet too. They, unlike the Cressida and her compadres, are actually doing something on a scientific, economic and political level to try and effect change that will benefit us all.

And all quietly, unsung, and without causing mayhem on the motorways and risking people’s lives.

THEY are my heroes.

YANBU. So many of the negative comments on here are probably from people who have children/grandchildren, but can't see, or just don't care what is happening to the planet their loved ones will inherit. Unfortunately peaceful protest does not work, as no-one really takes any notice of it. Only protest that makes headlines cuts through. Thousands of people protested peacefully in London for nature the other week. How much media coverage did that get? Very little. Fossil fuels are destroying the planet and I applaud JSO for all that they do to raise awareness of that. I'm so grateful that there are people out there who willing to put their liberty on the line for the good of us all.

I agree with you mostly OP. I think they could be more strategic in making sure their actions impact big companies and governments rather than ordinary people, but at least they’re trying to do something on a large scale to address the issue rather than just being robotic, law abiding citizens passively accepting the status quo and making it easy for those in power to ruin the planet for profit,

@CautiousLurker and it’s people like this who will hopefully make the changes which are needed. Shame all these supposedly brainy educated students and retirees aren’t doing something more useful.

Oh but I forget, they wouldn’t get the same rush/excitement from it. They may pretend their actions are for noble reasons but they are self serving publicity hungry, narcissistic idiots. Unlike your dh and others.
