I have changed my name for this, but there is so much negativity and hate towards JSO, Insulate Britain, and ER on these boards, that I really want to risk putting my head above the parapet and saying "WOOOHOO! I AM RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!"

These are wonderful people sacrificing their own liberty and careers to bring attention to their cause - and it really works! There have been huge benefits, so many companies are aware of them, and taking steps to avoid being in the firing line by upping their investments in environmental mitigations.

And the huge amount of attention that insulation got- it is now high up on so many agendas! Why did it take protesters gluing themselves to the road to do it? It should have happened anyway, but it didn't. People had to make that sacrifice, but themselves in danger, lose jobs, careers, liberty, etc, to get results.

People moan about having their days disrupted, etc by JSO, without caring how much their days are going to be disrupted by the climate crisis running out of control.

I have cancer. I couldn't get to a chemo appointment once because of JSO. I 100% support their actions. I think their cause is so much bigger than one person. They are acting to protect millions.

No doubt people will come here and bitch and moan and I don't care really, at least anyone from JSO who is on MN will see my thread title.

They are not wonderful people , period .

Sanctimonious rabble thinking they are so superior they can disrupt the lives of others for a cause very few people are interested in

Poor Cressida won't even be allowed a bit of wedding cake!!

You know she plays the cello, right??

So, she's far too upper middle class---- lovely to go to prison. 🤨

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 27/07/2024 22:01

JSO are selfish cunts. Their stupid M25 blockage meant a woman couldn't get to her Mum's funeral. In the end all the family got, was 10 minutes to say goodbye. The lady's friends couldn't even make it to her funeral. To prevent ambulances getting through is absolutely despicable. JSO are also massive bloody hypocrites. They're going to pollute to planet doing these stupid road protests by having drivers stuck in massive traffic jams with the car engines idling. There's better ways to protest that doesn't involve destroying or de facing public property, heritage sights or art galleries, and certainly not by being a silly twat and supergluing themselves to a road. One day they will piss the wrong person off and be run over. I've no sympathy for them when that day happens.

gillefc82 · 27/07/2024 22:02

As an Evertonian, I have to admit a soft spot for the JSO fella who cable tied himself to one of our goalposts in a close and nervy match against Newcastle two seasons ago. The time it took to get him free led to a 10 minute stoppage and we scored in extra time for a much needed win and 3 points! 💙

But other than that, whilst I largely agree with most of their message, the tactics they use are never going to win over the popular support and therefore won’t have any impact on legislation, behaviour etc.

RampantIvy · 27/07/2024 22:02

Post me a link please that shows that a company’s CSR division changed its investments or environmental mitigations as a direct result of Just Stop Oil protesting . This is absolutely absurd

I agree. Part of my job is checking out suppliers' CSR and environmental credentials. Our suppliers have had this information on their websites for years.

OhMehGoddess · 27/07/2024 22:03

Retired and at those ages not far off the grave.
So they are just bored retirees and the students are just hormonal and just want to be in. Others have money to fall back on.

Fucking everyone over for your belief, just makes me not believe any such cause and hate the whole lot.
I would never forgive any cunt like that, if I was to miss a funeral or death, or stopping fire brigades, ambulances. I would actively seek revenge.

OhHelloMiss · 27/07/2024 22:04

Was the Caterhsm diesal spillage not an accident?? Did the driver do it on purpose?

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 27/07/2024 22:05

RainintheDesert · 27/07/2024 21:57

I respectfully disagree OP.

JSO activists are usually white, privileged, and fucking annoying, and they target people who don't have the same privilege.

When ER was active that Herbert climbed on top of a Jubilee line train. Why? A train that runs on electricity. He also targeted Canning Town where there are a lot of people on low incomes and in unstable employment. No wonder a tube worker had to stop the workers from kicking the activists head in. These blokes are REQUIRED to be on time or they lose a days labour.

They target roads near hospitals, they attack priceless works of art (why?) and they pour paint over ancient monuments (doubly WHY?). They do not give a shit about people and they do not give a shit about our cultural heritage. They are the worst pains in the arses who say they care about everyone and the planet but would rather let someone not get urgent medical treatment in time because there is a fucking point to be made. They are a cult.

My two pence.

I'm from that neck of the woods and i can tell you that most people were pleased with the way it turned out.

Fuck around and find out in it's pure, crystallised form!

Do that shit at St John's Wood, not in East London.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 27/07/2024 22:05

Just Stop Oil are my heroes!

Ferris Bueller is mine.

If you think they are so great, why aren't you joining them in their actions?

"WOOOHOO! I AM RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!" Isn't really right behind them is it?
Also, that makes you sound like a 12 year old.

It must be!

SD1978 · 27/07/2024 22:10

I want to anonymously say woo hoo I'm right behind you....they don't target where there could actually be a change, none of them do. Major corporations and businesses are the ones who need to change their practice, not some poor sod trying to get to work. Cressida's mother has shown that these people are mainly quite removed from actual, working society, and think having a jolly with a bit of activism before moving to their nice house in the country is the way forward. Target those who should be making a change. They are bullies- picking on the 'little person' whilst doing feck all useful

Tartfullodger · 27/07/2024 22:11

I love how you're so passionate but simultaneously also so completely spineless that you name changed 😂

ThursdayTomorrow · 27/07/2024 22:11

I honestly think that JSO are doing such a good job of turning people AGAINST working to reduce their carbon footprint, that they must surely have been infiltrated by people from the oil companies hoping to turn people’s opinions.

pilates · 27/07/2024 22:12

A bit wimpy to name change - why can’t you just own it op?

Just kicking the hornet's nest for a reaction, which to be fair, around here, ain't hard

Horsecalledrhubard · 27/07/2024 22:17

@incognit

May I politely ask you what they want to achieve?

As a country we produce only 1% of the world’s carbon. We have committed to working towards cleaner energy.

But I worry that JSO wants us on a course to extreme impoverishment by 2030, and yet the global impact will be minimal.

How do you feel about people flying for example? Should we be the only civilisation locked up in our own country, or do we still get to fly to see immediate family who happen to live abroad a couple of times a year? Or just get away on a holiday? Can they come to us?

How will we get through a cold winter without freezing under piles of blankets? Because you realise that all of the energy we require cannot yet come from renewables.

I personally believe JSO are either mad, or stupid. I’m not sure which, but perhaps you’ll be able to reassure me that my fears are unfounded and JSO wants us all able to move around the globe freely at our leisure as we do now, and want us snuggly warm in cosy homes, regardless?

Burnbaby · 27/07/2024 22:18

Why do people NC if they are proud.
I try my best to reuse, buy/eat local. Use bus for leisure if I can.
But I’m not prepared to send 4 hours a day going to work on 3 buses (so can’t even relax) when is 30 minutes in my car. Only allowed 1 day at home.
They have been talking about insulation and solar panels for over 30 years. And energy efficient light bulbs are a rip off and don’t even bloody last!

Bonjovispjs · 27/07/2024 22:18

Would you think they're so wonderful if it was your child stuck in an ambulance unable to get to hospital?

LaughingElderberry · 27/07/2024 22:19

JSO's actions are counter productive.

People like the OP, who supports their actions, are hugely outnumbered by people who don't like JSO - for whatever reason. And every time they protest and cause a big disruption, it alienates more people. And those people vote.

So if JSO - and any of their compatriot organisations like Insulate Britain and XR - truly care about the environment and their ideological aims, then why aren't they trying to bring the voting public on side? Why aren't they stopping to think that every headline where ordinary people are prevented from getting to work and attending hospital appointments, is another nail in the coffin for getting public sympathy and support?

What do they imagine that the average person thinks, when they read a news headline about a woman being left with permanent paralysis www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/19591197.mum-paralysed-stroke-m25-protest-delayed-hospital-trip/, because her stroke treatment was delayed by a protest]]?

And this is why I'm sceptical about their so-called integrity and dedication - because if they were truly serious about trying to effect change, then this is a bloody stupid and ineffective way to go about it.

Bibblebobblebibble · 27/07/2024 22:21

Agreed OP.

Do the people on here frothing about the inconvenience the protests caused truly have no idea what is to come as a result of climate change?

Epicaricacy · 27/07/2024 22:21

sacrificing their own liberty and careers to bring attention to their cause

hahaha

For anyone not in this country, don't worry. They really are not.

They couldn't care less however about others.

JaneJeffer · 27/07/2024 22:21

Frothing? 🤣
