To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

I was shocked at the library scene leading to a threesome.

The mocking of Christians in the last supper scene.

The feminization of males & the sheer number of transvestites on parade. And a child thrown in the midst of them.

This is a sporting event, why the need to have it so highly sexulaised? My dc were thankfully howling with laughter at parts "the smurf man" singing (complete with his painted bulge) had us all in stitches.

I feel there was a social conditioning agenda to the opening ceremony & it was completely inappropriate given that it is for family viewing. Sexulaised behaviour should not be displayed to children.

I didn’t really get the naked Smurf. They hung the flag upside down. But, overall, it was spectacular, with the fireworks, and slightly strange with their themes. lol Celine Dion was excellent.

Are you Jack Monroe?

What, the "culinary" person? God no, just a world weary cynic lol. Bit confused by the reference after goggling. Are they a world weary cynic too lol?

zingally · 27/07/2024 15:29

I told my two they could watch it if they wanted.
Both had lost interest and wondered off by about 30 minutes in. I turned it off from about 7:30-8:30 to do bedtime as normal - as neither expressed any interest in staying up for it!
I turned it back on for about the last hour, but thought it wasn't anything special. But yes, I agree quite a lot of it seemed unnecessarily sexualised, but shrugged it off as "there's the French for you."

zaxxon · 27/07/2024 15:33

What's really shocking here is that so many people express a liking for Celine Dion 🧀

Women4women · 27/07/2024 15:37

The hypersexualization of the Olympic ceremonies has nothing to do with being “woke.” It is due to the patriarchal system that objectifies women, reducing them to parts. Unfortunately, the constant subjection to this type of content is being used against women to normalize our abuse in this way. And, it is not only detrimental to women, but to boys and men who grow up not being able to see women as whole people. From that place of lacking grows gender discrimination. And, the cycle continues with even more harmful ramifications.

TizerorFizz · 27/07/2024 15:38

These ceremonies always seem to be over populated by fogie music. Do the French have a singer/group anyone would know? This has to appeal to the USA market of course. We always thought Adele should have done ours!

She’s the one. She went through a phase of always referring to bread and circuses!

Oh fair play lol 😆 Must have been under my rock while that was going on - I only come out randomly.

Firdbeeder · 27/07/2024 15:50

So inclusive it was exclusive. I went for a walk during the interminable soggy drag queen section which was somehow still going on by the time I came back. Glad I missed the bollock hanging out of some guy’s knickers.

Creepingivy · 27/07/2024 16:18

What @Firdbeeder ,you mean this dangling testicle? 😜 And the owner happens to be front & centre in front of Papa Smurf?

Was this the scene the child was in?

It wasn't good, but seriously, have the pearl clutchers never been exposed to French art before?

I mean, this isn't hugely out of the ordinary for them. Fair play to them for putting on something that was French, rather than some generic peace to the world bullshit like so many of these things are.

I mean, I hope no-one looks up Gustave Courbet's 1866 painting L'origine du monde...

Its just a rip in some tights, I’m fairly sure no one will be traumatised from seeing someones thigh.

Creepingivy · 27/07/2024 16:35

Was there a different testicle on the loose that I missed?

An assortment of responses:
@Happyhoppy15 Far bigger things to worry about your children seeing such as the huge riots we had recently in Leeds?
Does the phrase "false equivalence" mean anything to you? No? Ok, let's try a different way: Why are you moaning bout a few. rioters. in Leeds when there's homeless people in Luton? Why are you so bothered about the UK when the entire middle east is permanently at war? What about the inhuman suffering the dinosaurs went through? The diplodocuses had it worse than you, so what's the harm in your kids watching some extreme goat-on-goat por.... hmm.
Did you spot the problem yet?

@scottishheather86 Have you ever been to France?
Quite a few times actually, over the years, business and pleasure. Fags are cheaper, the brazieries sell grown-up lager rather than the pish water sold in the UK for the last 10 years, but only in thimble sized glasses. Fishing for Well's catfish, pike, and perch is good in some private chateau lakes. Some of the older people in Bénouville are the kindest people you'll ever meet, and the very best speakers.
What's your question got to do with exposing young children to pornography though.. is that something you do regularly perhaps?

@Willmafrockfit i would say it was nothing! its french, what do you expect
See also:
It's not important, he's a foreign! They get get their heads caved in all the time, what did you expect?
I don't give two hoots, they're ethnics! Of course it was them who stole your purse, what do you expect from them?
You're not important and you don't matter! Fcuk your siht and what you think, I'm [insert group/class/category/whatever pigeonhole here] so I can say whatever I like without fear of repercussion or consequence!

@Peaceandquietandacuppa The library scene was weird but it was obviously inspired by the movie “Jules and Jim” and the nouvelle vague (really famous French era of movie making in the 50s)
Oh piss off Methuselah. If your idea of justification for sexualising children is based on one single black and white "moving picture" that middle aged people's parents are too young to remember, then it's not really a valid point, is it?

@MessinaBloom OP seems to be quite annoyed about what she saw as an ingrained agenda in the Opening Ceremony. This implies she saw traces of it throughout, so she could have simply turned it off. I know I do that if a programme irritates me enough.
So let's have this right.. What you're saying is that a "hypothetical person" can make a tv program to be broadcast to every country on Earth that serves as an intro to a global event which several billion people will watch live, and just show whatever they like in it? You'll stand and fight for "person's" right to show live, uncensored, unregulated acts of zoophilia, coprophilia, torture, human vivisection, rang gape, chilled prawnography, shit that Serbian... did when they encountered humans for the first time at Srebrenica, "forced" this that and the other... You wholeheartedly support a "hypothetical person's right" to put that in front of families and children all across the world and justify it with a simple "pshh, aint my problem bruv, you let em watch it, that's on you" quip.
That's correct, isn't it?

I think it was more than a few rioters. There was extreme violence and total disrespect for the law. All because children’s services were acting to save children’s lives.

your post makes me 🤣 it’s not false equivalence at all. You have actually proved my point. Homeless people anywhere is heartbreaking. As are the wars across the world, animal cruelty terrible etc. all of these things are awful and something that should be worried about. People having fun, not harming anyone is not something to worry about.

anyways cba with all this backward thinking so enjoy the rest of your day 😂😂😂

I always wondered how we went backwards from the Romans, but I'm beginning to understand.

erm - not sure the BBC has, or intends to, broadcast 5+ hours of 'homelessness' or 'live rioting from Leeds' at 6:30pm on a Friday night for family delectation though.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 27/07/2024 18:05

The threesome was referencing one of the most influential and iconic films of the 20th century. Hardly something no-one has never heard of.

Can't comment on this as I make a point of never watching the opening or closing ceremonies of anything like this as they have absolutely nothing to do with the sporting event itself.

Personally I am not happy about this Olympics because the hospitality organizers are serving foie gras. Nothing screams premier sporting occasion like ramming a tube down the throats of ducks and geese and force feeding them until their livers become enlarged and diseased.

I would like to thank the thankers on this message (15) and say if you are concerned about foie gras being served (it is banned in UK) please have a look at the websites of CIWF (Compassion in World Farming) and Animal Equity who have been campaigning to stop it. It isn't too late to remove it from the menus for the rest of the games. They have been asking people to send emails to the organizers and to share the message on SM. Thank you.

I would think at least 95% of those watching have never heard of the film let a lone seen it. Most of French culture from 1900 onwards is largely irrelevant to the rest of the world except Francophiles who think they’re superior for sitting through some god awful French films and dipping their baguette in Camembert and croissants in hot chocolate

Thank you for sharing this. Unfortunately the French don’t give a fuck about animal welfare - try visiting there as a vegan and you soon realise their priorities.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 27/07/2024 19:32

Well, Heaven forbid the French try to showcase the best of their astonishing cultural contributions to humanity if some people haven't heard of François Truffaut, one of the most revered film directors of the past century. In fact let's just hand the whole thing over to the USA and set it in Disneyland. Everyone's heard of the Mouse.

Whoiam · 27/07/2024 19:40

Sodom and Gomorrah.

I would think that it would be pretty normal to assume the opening ceremony for the Olympics would be intended for family viewing.

There are plenty of very French cultural references and traditions that are completely suitable for all ages, there was really no need to try and sex it up.

I'd also say - while the Olympics might be in a particular country, it's watched by people all over the world with quite a variety of religious and cultural beliefs. It should be suitable viewing for all.

It just comes off as being like that creep who can't stop bringing sex into the conversation because he thinks it makes him edgy and sophisticated, but instead he just seems like a dirty old man.

Edited

You know that sex IS French culture? They aren’t half the prudes the Anglo Saxons are.
