Desperate help - passport expired, travel on Wednesday

Nowanextraone · 20/07/2024 19:10

I feel sick. I don't understand how we have overlooked this as we renewed 2 of our other children's passports, but we've just seen our daughter's passport expired in January.

We are fucked aren't we? It says a child's passport can only be renewed urgently in a week.
I feel sick

Insurance won't even pay will it as it's our fault.

Gosh what an update!

Nice one @Nowanextraone 😆 SO chuffed for ya! Have a lovey time y'all! 👫👫👭

EdithBond · 24/07/2024 23:47

Really pleased you can still have a holiday. IMHO NHS staff should get free holidays after all you went through during the pandemic. Let us know when the passport arrives.

I'm thrilled for the OP but free holidays? Every single person? Once or for life? And what about the teachers and delivery drivers and and and who also worked during the pandemic? How does that end?

And why would a pair of consultants with a household income of 200k+ need a free holiday while a single mother not working in the NHS and on 20k a year and hasn't holidayed for years get nothing....

Logic!

I worked front line in the NHS throughout on the wards and hated the claps and talks of heroes. We were just doing our job during a shitty time like millions of others. All the fuss made me so uncomfortable. Anyway that’s another thread!

We just need to know when OP gets her passport!

Nowanextraone · 26/07/2024 19:43

I cannot thank everyone enough for all your kindness and support, it really has blown me away 😊 especially on AIBU 🤣🤣 seriously, thanks a million.

We received her new passport today - our appointment was Monday morning at 10.10am. Just so that anyone else in this position has some guidance of how long it might take.
She is still blissfully unaware her passport was an issue! 🥰

So so so excited for our holiday now. On a countdown!

Thanks a million everyone xx

Have you got Covid?
That might prevent you going.

My child had gasterinteritis and I was refunded

Pherian · 27/07/2024 22:39

They won’t let you travel so I suggest you reschedule.

SeeingRainbowsInTheGloom · 28/07/2024 06:35

Love your update. Have a wonderful holiday, especially after having a horrible year. And, you sound like good parents not telling your daughter it was her passport.

EI12 · 28/07/2024 06:37

So happy for you! Yes, and I know how it happened - you must carry a load heavier than other members of your family, you know, when everything is on you, absolutely everything, that is how we forget things - not because you are underutilising your capacity. Because you are responsible for the passports too - if other members of the family lifted their fingers, it would not have happened, but it is you, you, you, etc. I hope you a have a fantastic holiday!

Fillyfrog · 28/07/2024 06:59

What a lovely outcome! Have a fab holiday.

Croufer · 20/07/2024 19:18

Really? Why on Earth why?

Unfortunately because of things like fgm or a messy divorce where they child is taken abroad by 1 parent. Sad because it doesn't stop the problem but does hinder, but does stop people who forgot to renew.

bigdecisionstomake · 28/07/2024 07:26

That's an amazing update OP - I'm so glad it all worked out for you. Enjoy your holiday 😎

Then you question yourself, do you have that extra money to sort it out? What if you really have to fly to NI and can not afford it?

You do but better to waste 100 quid rather than the 6000.
