Page 14 | Desperate help - passport expired, travel on Wednesday

I feel sick. I don't understand how we have overlooked this as we renewed 2 of our other children's passports, but we've just seen our daughter's passport expired in January. We are fucked aren't we? It says a child's passport can only be renewed urgently in a week. I feel sick Insurance won't even pay will it as it's our fault.

Personally I would ask the tour operator if you can move the holiday by a few days.

I agree with you. On the Facebook Cyprus forum it's chaos with folk getting holidays cancelled up to at least this Thursday, so there's a bigger chance that they might be glad to jiggle you about to a week or two later.

Hope you get something sorted.

Ahhh you sound like such a lovely family, so sweet and soppy!

Hopefully a really conscientious person in the passport office will try and get you sorted! I would smile through any chastising. I really, really hope this works out for you like it has for a lucky few!

If you're feeling bad...my Stepmother and Dad missed a flight to Brazil because they were eating in the airport restaurant, stuffing their faces and didn't hear the public announcement for the gate closing. I kid you not! They had to buy last minute new flights costing £££ there and then and then pay to stay in a hotel till the next day.

I couldn't believe it. I was surprised they didn't just turn back frankly. But you know what? My Father passed away January this year, and my Stepmom says she's so glad they still went on that holiday, though they had almost no spending money anymore, and she actually finds the big drama of that day a comfort that makes her laugh now. So whatever you do, memories are worth it, and maybe one day you'll look back and laugh about this. Good luck!

UPDATE

I literally CANNOT believe how happy I am right now.
So, my husband went to the passport office and did all he could but there is very little they can do except guarantee it will be back within the week 😬 But she did tell him it's also likley to be sooner, but no guarantees.

Anyway, I read where several of you suggested I call the tour operator. It was booked through TUI 'NHS heroes' (we both work in the NHS).
I promptly burst into tears when I spoke to the woman. She was so so lovely to me and went off and spoke to her manager, who came back and offered us a free amendment to go in 12 days time!!!!! Obviously had to rush to confirm we could change our annual leave and we could, so of course we said YES!!

It's to a different hotel, but equally as amazing!!

I've been checking back periodically and I'm so happy for you with this last update!!

When the kids are older you'll be able to tell them what really happened and they'll all make fun of you!! It will be brilliant! Ha ha.

We had a similar passport issue, TUI normally change 100% of the holiday cost if looking to move to a later date if less than 14 days from travel since it's charged as a cancellation. We had a bit more time to get our passport back and didn't have to do this.
They have really pulled the stops out for you and have done absolutely the right thing especially for two deserving NHS workers.

Wonderful update! Fantastic customer service from TUI. Brilliant demonstration of why it really can help to book through a tour operator. I was proud to work for them many years ago when they were Thomson Travel. Glad they're still providing a decent service. Sure you'll have a brilliant time - 2024 is getting better!! 😃
