Desperate help - passport expired, travel on Wednesday

Nowanextraone · 20/07/2024 19:10

I feel sick. I don't understand how we have overlooked this as we renewed 2 of our other children's passports, but we've just seen our daughter's passport expired in January.

We are fucked aren't we? It says a child's passport can only be renewed urgently in a week.
I feel sick

Insurance won't even pay will it as it's our fault.

Get the first appointment you can even if you have to drive up North or fly to Belfast. Apparently you can beg on the day and ask them to expedite it and you may get lucky.

Then you question yourself, do you have that extra money to sort it out? What if you really have to fly to NI and can not afford it?

Userxyd · 22/07/2024 23:00

This is such fantastic news! Well done TUI I'll definitely remember this for my next holiday booking. Unlike Ryanair who years ago when my DC both had chickenpox so we had to cancel refused to offer anything other than a voucher for the £600 flights that had to be used within 6 months when we knew we couldn't go anywhere. They refused to extend it so we just lost the money 👎

Characterbuilding · 22/07/2024 23:55

This almost feels as good as going on holiday myself!! 😂
Have a well deserved break

JellyBeanFactory · 23/07/2024 00:03

That's great news OP @Nowanextraone
You'll look back and laugh (one day!).
Have a lovely holiday.

Lavendersquare · 23/07/2024 00:07

That's lovely news OP, so glad you're still having a holiday you'll definitely cherish this one. And also well done TUI for literally saving the day, definitely a compassionate company. 👏🏼

UPDATE

I literally CANNOT believe how happy I am right now.
So, my husband went to the passport office and did all he could but there is very little they can do except guarantee it will be back within the week 😬 But she did tell him it's also likley to be sooner, but no guarantees.

Anyway, I read where several of you suggested I call the tour operator. It was booked through TUI 'NHS heroes' (we both work in the NHS).
I promptly burst into tears when I spoke to the woman. She was so so lovely to me and went off and spoke to her manager, who came back and offered us a free amendment to go in 12 days time!!!!! Obviously had to rush to confirm we could change our annual leave and we could, so of course we said YES!!

It's to a different hotel, but equally as amazing!!

Wow, I can't believe my luck! And thank you SO much for all the support.

Ah how lovely!! So pleased for you all

ICouldBeVioletSky · 23/07/2024 08:25

What a great advert for Tui - bravo Tui! 👏 👏 👏

(also - you do realise the passport is now virtually guaranteed to arrive tomorrow?! 😜)

Rachie1973 · 23/07/2024 08:35

Awww. I’m thrilled to see this. Well done all those with great advice, well done TUI.

BeSnugEagle · 23/07/2024 10:03

Was so upset for you a few days ago and thought I would check again today. I am over the moon for you.
My daughter did something similar a couple of years ago but they lost their holiday.
Now go and have a lovely holiday.

spiderlight · 23/07/2024 10:54

That's such brilliant news!!

Juliet194 · 23/07/2024 11:19

Aww so pleased for you OP, gives you a bit of time to breath and relax knowing that the passport will be back in plenty of time.

Glad that TUI were helpful and kind.

Have a great holiday!

Chardonnay73 · 23/07/2024 16:57

Another update from me that folks may find useful…
Picked up Ds passport today. Made a point of asking for clarification on if you can still get a same day passport for an adult .The official answer was:
The soonest you can get an adult passport for collection is day 3 after completing the online application. In very very rare cases ie bereavement, illness, they MAY be able to get one through but that is very unlikely.
Childs passport is always 1 week service and couriered to you. No amount of begging/ turning up at the office will help. It was strictly appointment only and I saw people being turned away.
Hope that’s useful!

Pearl97 · 24/07/2024 09:39

This gave me goose bumps! I came on to see if the passport had arrived. I’ve been the kind of you all. Have the best holiday. Kindness spreads kindness as I always tell my daughter. You will have made the day of the staff member who could help you. What a wonderful thread.
