Third trimester, I know it's not recommended but ... really fancy a glass of wine. Would you?

I drank a small glass or two most weeks with DC1 (which was within guidelines/recommendations at the time). I even had one while in early labour- midwife suggested it! I didn’t drink in second pregnancy as I didn’t fancy it.

oakleaffy · 20/07/2024 19:37

Definitely not..Booze crosses placenta easily.

Greatmate · 20/07/2024 19:37

A small white wine spritzer won't hurt.

NowIam35 · 20/07/2024 19:40

I personally would not. Even if there is very minimal risk from one glass of wine. You wouldn't think it was acceptable for a baby to drink wine would you? What you drink, the baby drinks.

Buildingthefuture · 20/07/2024 19:42

Yes I would. My mother drank half a Guinness almost every day towards the end of her pregnancy with me (as per the advice at the time) I’m fine.

MintTwirl · 20/07/2024 19:43

I had a small glass when pregnant with dc2, it was on my wedding day. Tbh once I had the glass in my hand I didn’t really fancy it and didn’t drink it all so no I wouldn’t judge someone for having a small glass of wine.

It makes me laugh that people try and insinuate that someone must have an issue with alcohol if they fancy a glass of wine while pregnant,

Yes. Absolutely no guilt. Read the research, no harm.

That is not an accurate statement . Research states there is no safe quantity of alcohol. That doesn't equate to alcohol is safe.

Research is conducted post birth to identify if issues are traceable to alcohol.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a condition where alcohol is an issue but no quantities has been identified.

I wouldn't because I would never want the guilt should your child have any health issues at birth or later. There is literally a brain being programmed and grown inside you, alcohol will cross to them, is a drink really comparable?

2Rebecca · 20/07/2024 19:44

Yes. The evidence of harm is early pregnancy and alcoholics

Daisylookslost · 20/07/2024 19:45

No. Saying that I did take 1 solitary swig of cooking wine on 2-3 occasions when PG. Just could not do a glass even small… plenty of time for that when you are not pregnant

AngeloMysterioso · 20/07/2024 19:46

You’ll be fine.

Matronic6 · 20/07/2024 19:48

I had the occasional glass of a white wine spritzer whilst expecting.

Saltedbutter · 20/07/2024 19:49

Yes. The majority of women I know have the occasional glass when pregnant. Obviously, Mumsnet isn’t going to always be reflective of the overall population for these type of topics - especially not on AIBU.
Have one glass and do not feel guilty about it whatsoever. In many counties it’s entirely normal and there’s no evidence that a small amount causes any harm. Its clear you’re not proposing regular consumption or binge drinking!
Enjoy!

wandaer · 20/07/2024 19:49

No, I didn't. Got pg with dc1 7 years ago and been pg or breastfeeding since then, and I've not had any alcohol. I don't miss it tbh, it makes me sleepy.

You are amused that concern is shown when a woman is growing a baby? Really, I have to say I find your Idea of humour rather sad.

There are women every day getting diagnostic news about their children and I can guarantee you the majority of them will go back and replay every decision they made during pregnancy.

To me this is an absolute no brainer, no smoking no alcohol no drugs, I don't see that as a sacrifice.

XxEmily88xx · 20/07/2024 19:52

I had one glass of champagne at a wedding and felt incredibly guilty. All was fine with baby. So my answer is

I don't know 😂. If you do..... sip slowly and enjoy. Haha xx

Dahliaaaa · 20/07/2024 19:54

Genuinely shocked at the amount of people saying they would drink alcohol whilst pregnant. Are you really that desperate for an alcoholic drink?! It's just not worth the risk

Wendyinwonderland · 20/07/2024 19:54

The is a warning on wine in France to not drink in pregnancy. Since 2007.
You are an adult and can what you want within the law.

I wonder how many of those who don't follow advice re drinking when pregnant will become evangelical about sleeping, weaning, etc once their baby is born

soundsys · 20/07/2024 19:55

Yep 3rd trimester is absolutely fine, assuming you're not getting smashed and dancing on tables and things.

Enjoy it!

BlackStrayCat · 20/07/2024 19:57

Yes I would and did in 3rd trimester. Probably once a week.

RoseMarigoldViolet · 20/07/2024 19:57

No, I wouldn’t.

GingerPirate · 20/07/2024 19:58

No, I wouldn't, because I don't drink.
I don't really know what sort of "repercussions" one glass might bring if you are pregnant.
But, what IS the obsession with wine?
😳

MidnightPatrol · 20/07/2024 19:58

’Theres no safe amount’ is because it’s not deemed ethical to run trials on pregnant women and babies.

If alcohol was so toxic one small glass of wine could permanently damage your baby, we would know about it.

A small glass once a week is fine.

Supergirl1958 · 20/07/2024 19:59

I did and was fine. Go for it OP if you fancy it! Why not! My son is nearly five and thriving! My mum drank stout throughout Her pregnancies. You’re fine for the occasional glass!
