Third trimester, I know it's not recommended but ... really fancy a glass of wine. Would you?

No

greengreyblue · 20/07/2024 19:08

It’s not socially unacceptable at home.

Firebird83 · 20/07/2024 19:08

I wouldn’t.

bluebee17 · 20/07/2024 19:08

No I wouldn't

Ninahaen · 20/07/2024 19:08

I didn’t. But I’m not a big drinker, so didn’t feel I was missing out.

as long as you have researched it and are comfortable with the (very small) risk, then a wee glass probably won’t do much harm

Pepperama · 20/07/2024 19:08

I didn’t and still wouldn’t - same reason as others. If something had gone wrong with baby I wouldn’t have wanted to second guess if it had anything to do with me. Only a few months - I did have the occasional glass when breastfeeding once it was a predictable routine

WestminsterCrimes · 20/07/2024 19:09

I had about a quarter of a champagne flute just for the taste. About 2 sips

Motheranddaughter · 20/07/2024 19:09

Absolutely I would

greengreyblue · 20/07/2024 19:09

I had 4 weddings to attend from 20wks to 40 weeks and had a glass of champagne each. Both dc very bright and now adult. Pregnancies were normal as were births. My DM was advised to drink Guinness by her doctor when she had us! For the iron!

ElderMillenials · 20/07/2024 19:11

It's fine, enjoy your glass!

Funkyslippers · 20/07/2024 19:11

Yes I would and did!

Clma · 20/07/2024 19:15

I wouldn't. There is absolutely no need to do it other than selfishness. If I ate sweet foods my baby would be more active in the womb. Due to this I belive that alcohol would definitely reach them.

BreezyAquaCrow · 20/07/2024 19:16

I absolutely wouldn’t and didn’t. The reason there isn’t evidence of harm for low levels of drinking in pregnancy is because it would be unethical to undertake the studies needed to say this. I worked a NICE for a long time so know this is the case. It clearly won’t do your baby any good so why do it?

PurBal · 20/07/2024 19:16

Yep.

Lilylovetulips · 20/07/2024 19:16

No I wouldn't, still shocked in this day and age that people don't appreciate the risks? The alcohol goes into the baby's bloodstream.

LivelyMintViper · 20/07/2024 19:17

I. Went to a lecture on foetal alcohol syndrome and the doctor said some people can drink and it doesn't affect the baby. Obviously it would if they were regularly blind drunk but the odd drink session some can do just fine
However for some only one drink is enough to cause damage. The thing is unless it's a major issue the symptoms may not show up for years
And some physical symptoms disappear quite quickly so the only way to tell if issues later on were caused by alcohol is a brain scan. So for all those who say it was fine for them they will not know if the learning issues or the emotional issues much later on were caused by their drinking. No way of telling for any given person how much is safe for them to drink. So no
I wouldn't risk it

IAlwaysTellTheTruthEvenWhenILie · 20/07/2024 19:17

No. We don't know for sure the effects of alcohol when pregnant, even one glass. I wouldn't.

AzureAnt · 20/07/2024 19:18

DonnaBanana · 20/07/2024 19:05

No because if my baby turned out to have an odd look I wouldn’t ever be able to get it out of my head it might have suffered from my moment of weakness

I think you would need a lot more than one small glass of wine to cause that.
I know this puts me on a par with Satan but had the odd cigarette while pregnant 😉

Moonshine5 · 20/07/2024 19:18

No, I wouldn't. But you do you.

TyneTeas · 20/07/2024 19:18

I wouldn't and didn't

Fudgetheparrot · 20/07/2024 19:19

Yes, one small one

I had the odd glass - in both pregnancies

Drizzlebizzle · 20/07/2024 19:20

Have you read the book 'Expecting Better' by Emily Oster? It's ages since I read it but I think it was really useful for making a sensible risk assessment about your decions.

mynameiscalypso · 20/07/2024 19:20

Yes, and I did. Including in a restaurant. The vast majority of my friends did as well.

SoSoller · 20/07/2024 19:20

No
