Third trimester, I know it's not recommended but ... really fancy a glass of wine. Would you?

OP posts:
RookieMa · 20/07/2024 19:20

Yes

HansHolbein · 20/07/2024 19:20

Absolutely not.

HolidayAddict23 · 20/07/2024 19:20

No

Zogthebiggestdragon · 20/07/2024 19:22

I had one or two glasses a week from 12 weeks on both pregnancies, kids fine. There's a lot of frothing and judgement on this thread already but if you want a glass of wine go for it, make sure its a really good one and enjoy every drop.

Rainisonmyplane · 20/07/2024 19:23

I didn't and I wouldn't - I'm not bothered by drink though and can't understand how 9 months is that hard to go without (for those without issues with alcohol I mean).

My sister is a big drinker and smoker, she manages to quit smoking while pregnant but has a glass of wine everyday during pregnancy. Starts smoking and drinking heavily again as soon as baby is born, while breastfeeding. I do judge and wish she wouldn't if I'm honest.

GoldViper · 20/07/2024 19:23

Yes I had 2 large glasses of red wine in Paris on my birthday when I Was.7 months pregnant. The French didn't bat an eye 🤣 hes a perfectly fine 20 year old now.

SouthLondonMum22 · 20/07/2024 19:24

Absolutely. Especially in the 3rd trimester.

poetryandwine · 20/07/2024 19:24

In my home country one or two small
glasses of wine or beer a week in the third trimester are thought therapeutic. Not on the same day!

Just don't understand why you cannot wait a few weeks longer. It's hardly essential (and stupid).

DeathpunchDan · 20/07/2024 19:28

One of my memories with my first pregnancy was sitting in a bar with friends and enjoying a pint of Guinness.
Purely because I was out with friends and we had dinner, and like you, I REALLY fancied it. My pint lasted the evening, and I ignored the few disappoving looks.
My baby wasn't harmed, but there will always be folk who tell you otherwise, so you need to make your own mind up.

bakewellbride · 20/07/2024 19:28

I would never do it. It's the mother's job to protect the baby not drink alcohol.

Yes with food and keep it small. I had the occasional drink when pregnant as the guidance them was no more than twice a week. DC are now 23 and 20 and all good. Cheers!

Same here. Occasional small glass, no problem.

Bxlbelle · 20/07/2024 19:29

One glass and one glass only? Yes.

Clearinguptheclutter · 20/07/2024 19:29

Yes.
they don’t want you getting drunk and don’t trust people to make their own judgements.

an occasional glass is fine. The UK is an outlier in recommending that you don’t drink at all.

mondaytosunday · 20/07/2024 19:30

Last trimester no issue at all.
I once hosted a group of visiting spouses for my husband's office. I was very pregnant. To make chit chat I asked what restrictions they had in their home countries while pregnant. They looked at me like I had three heads (most were French). They said they drank, ate cheeses of all kinds, nuts, raw eggs... nothing to excess, but nothing forbidden.

Restinggoddess · 20/07/2024 19:30

Not going to do any harm at this stage

I worked with children with foetal alcohol syndrome ( FAS) - their mums had an absolute tank load of alcohol and drugs. I mean industrial levels of it ( I am not negating the impact of alcohol before the pearl clutches pile on with their comments)
Many of us had mums who had the odd glass of wine or stout during their pregnancies - no harm. Being stressed and concerned at every step is not a good thing for a pregnant mum.

One small glass will not harm - relax and enjoy your pregnancy

Lilylovetulips · 20/07/2024 19:16

No I wouldn't, still shocked in this day and age that people don't appreciate the risks? The alcohol goes into the baby's bloodstream.

Still shocked to in this day and age that people don't realise that other countries have different guidelines & their children aren't all born with issues.

@onethousand

A glass will not hurt. Look at the guidelines from other countries that don't treat their adults like toddlers. But fair play their adults might not be so thick and can understand words like moderation, limited, within reason

Have it, enjoy it, but don't make it a daily habit

JohnnyAndTheDead · 20/07/2024 19:31

BreezyAquaCrow · 20/07/2024 19:16

I absolutely wouldn’t and didn’t. The reason there isn’t evidence of harm for low levels of drinking in pregnancy is because it would be unethical to undertake the studies needed to say this. I worked a NICE for a long time so know this is the case. It clearly won’t do your baby any good so why do it?

"It won't do your baby any good so why do it?" It won't do the baby any harm, and the OP is still a human being in her own right and not just a vessel.

OP, I'd suggest reading Expecting Better. One glass of wine will do no harm at all to your baby. Not one bit.

BurbageBrook · 20/07/2024 19:31

No. Why would you do that to your baby just for the sake of a drink? I'd be worried about my attitude to alcohol if I couldn't abstain for the sake of my unborn child. A cold ginger beer or Martini aperitif 0 worked for me.

There wouldn’t be any French people if it wasn’t ok to drink wine when pregnant in Paris 😂😂😂

BurbageBrook · 20/07/2024 19:32

And Expecting Better is rubbish. The author cherry picks studies to suit her own opinions.

Maray1967 · 20/07/2024 19:32

That was the guidance in 2000 when I had DS1 and I did the same in 2008. The no alcohol at all guidance was brought in because some women did not know where to draw the line. A few small glasses spaced across a pregnancy won’t do anyone any harm but if you can’t trust yourself to stick at one small glass only occasionally then you should avoid it altogether.

EKnaring · 20/07/2024 19:33

I wouldn’t personally, and I’m 30 weeks pregnant

True!

Overthebow · 20/07/2024 19:35

I wouldn’t, personally I wouldn’t want to risk it. It’s your choice though.
