Third trimester, I know it's not recommended but ... really fancy a glass of wine. Would you?

And again SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF alcohol lead to a lifelong struggle with FAS all the other food you mentioned could lead to miscarriage or still birth so they cannot be compared.

Fixed that for you @OceanStorm

It's amazing that the majority of the population born up until 1990 don't have FAS given the quantities that were consumed and even recommended for pregnant women throughout history...

@MultiplaLight I definitely can. That why I accomplished more in my life than becoming a teacher. There are no studies demonstrating how much alcohol leads to FAS. Hence why weighing up the risks vs benefits is needed. Risks = FAS benefits = tasting alcohol. Self control is needed for some to give up the latter

Well done you can advance search 👏.

I'm incredibly proud of my job and how much I've achieved. I'm also glad I had a glass of wine while pregnant. I'll await your referral to social services about me.

I told my midwife I'd had a glass. She admitted she had too (wasn't 'banned' in her day) and she recommended Emily Oster. No need to lie.

@Strokethefurrywall Isn't it.

Almost like how it's amazing French women manage to give birth to healthy babies after eating all that food which UK women aren't supposed to.

@MultiplaLight I can only be grateful I'm not in the uk and went through pregnancy and birth under the care and guidance of my board certified OBGYN who, when asked about a glass of wine, said it was grand with a big meal and to enjoy it!

TTC is no guarantee you will conceive. However once a pregnancy is formed as a mother you choose whether your child ingests alcohol or not

Thanks, I do understand how sex and babies work. My point was, as a man would you be ‘always worrying’ if you conceived whilst drinking alcohol/smoking/taking drugs/drinking coffee/etc. There are no safe levels of alcohol for trying to conceive either. This is a separate issue to anything the mother is doing. I’ve just not heard any men who give up drinking alcohol when trying to conceive.

OceanStorm · 24/07/2024 18:14

@Blisterly you can't get fetal alcohol syndrome from alcohol consumed before conception- by mothers and fathers

Just to warn you, when I was pregnant it was still considered safe to have the occasional drink, and I was so looking forward to having a glass of champers at a family wedding when I was 20 weeks.
However, I had one sip and it tasted like gone off cider! Also, just from that one sip I spent the rest of the wedding puking. After that, throughout the whole pregnancy even the smell of alcohol or perfume provoked violent sickness.

I personally wouldn’t. I’m currently pregnant and also have gestational diabetes so there are tons of things I fancy but can’t have because they could be harmful to the baby. It’s a pain and I get annoyed by it but I know it’s not forever and I’ll enjoy those things again.

I think it’s unlikely one glass of wine would be devastating to your baby but I also expect the anxiety over it will ruin any enjoyment. Have you tried any non alcoholic wines or spirits to see if those hit the spot instead?

I also keep a list of everything I want to have but can’t at the moment as a plan for the ultimate month of indulgence I’m having once the baby is born!
