Really basic stuff I just can’t remember

Gross and Net. I can never remember which one relates to which figure and it’s especially annoying as I quite often have to discuss net and gross figures with clients. I don’t know why, I could check a thousand times and still never remember.

Same with Verbs, nouns, etc, which one is which FFS!

There are definitely other things but I’ve forgotten those too.

I can't do time zones at all.

Even when I not flying, someone will say I'm eastern time shall we have the meeting at xxx and my brain just melts.

I have to google every single time.

Get my flying and I really can't comprehend the changes, it just won't go in!

You can add other time zones to your outlook calendar!

RivkaTheBold · 19/07/2024 10:22

@Devilsmommy cancel the cheque Grin

LividLost · 19/07/2024 10:26

I'm probably the best speller I know and I CANNOT remember if it's graffiti or grafitti (except autocorrect just fixed the first one for me).

ClaudiaWankleman · 19/07/2024 10:28

I also have a problem with verb/ noun, but only in one of the languages I speak - it's so bizarre.

In English I often mix up the colours green and orange. I am not colourblind, I see them completely different. I just often say one when I mean the other.

Burgerqueenbee · 19/07/2024 10:38

For effect and affect think of 'cause and effect' so if you were pushed (cause) and fell into a swimming pool (effect) you would get wet (how it affected you).

startstopengine · 19/07/2024 11:45

@Asiatoyork adds time zones!!

Devilsmommy · 19/07/2024 07:33

No gross is what's after tax. Net is everything before

Eh? No it's not

Gross is the original amount before deductions

Now seen your post re sleep deprivation!

PuttingDownRoots · 19/07/2024 11:51

For left and right...

Put your hands in front of you, with the backs facing you, thumbs out and fingers straight.
The fingers and thumb in your left hand makes an L.

ATribeCalledQuestion · 19/07/2024 11:52

I don't know left and right. I mean, I do, I can think about it and figure it out but I don't know instinctively. If someone is opposite me I have to think and work out which is their left and right, I don't just KNOW like other people seem to. I struggle with map reading, directions etc. I also really really struggle to copy the gym instructor when he does those weird stretches like left leg and right arm out, I can't figure it out.

caringcarer · 19/07/2024 11:58

AttackMeleys · 19/07/2024 07:29

"There are definitely other things but I’ve forgotten those too." ... This made me laugh op 😄

I think most people have little blind spots, places where their brain just won't engage in the right way to retain the information. Gross and net I know and can use but I need half a second to think about - see also credit and debit.

The word 'definitely'. I've never struggled with spelling generally (<waits for someone to find a mistake in my post>😆), but there is something about it, the 'e's and 'i's perhaps, I always have to double check and say it to myself.

Setting the oven clock. Now that is definitely beyond my capabilities!

I ask teen to set anything electronic for me.

ThisMerryLurker · 19/07/2024 12:01

Necessary = one collar (C) and 2 sleeves (S)

Makinglists · 19/07/2024 12:09

Never, Eat, Shredded, wheat.....every time I have to think east or west....I have an alevel in geography and an environmental degree - I should know but still stand there going never, eat....

JoanThursday · 19/07/2024 12:16

Poor @Devilsmommy 😂

PuppyMonkey · 19/07/2024 12:23

I always go a bit Confused when people talk about the inside lane and the outside lane of a motorway. Just call it the slow lane and the fast lane and then I know what you mean.

Devilsmommy · 19/07/2024 12:31

JoanThursday · 19/07/2024 12:16

Poor @Devilsmommy 😂

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Chemenger · 19/07/2024 15:53

Intellectually I know left and right, but if I don’t stop to think I will get it wrong about 75% of the time (worse than just randomly guessing). Satnav has saved our marriage because my map reading is excellent but I can’t translate it into reliable directions.

merryhouse · 19/07/2024 16:48

Look, it's very simple. The inside lane is the one on the outside.

(after 30 years of people talking at me about it, I'm almost at the point where I'm comfortable with "the inside lane", but it still pisses me off. Still have to ask H every time he talks about nearside...)

On the other hand (ha), I don't even have the concept of muddling left and right.

I think I understand the offside rule. Asking me to judge in the moment whether someone was offside, not in a million years.

HelpMeGetThrough · 19/07/2024 17:25

I think I understand the offside rule. Asking me to judge in the moment whether someone was offside, not in a million years.

My youngest has tried several times to explain it to me. Nope, it doesn't sink in.

He can do it in the moment, but he's an FA referee, so I guess a bit of a must for him.

Arcadia · 19/07/2024 18:07

I still use the knuckles of my hand to work out how many days there are in each month. You start at the forefinger knuckle - 31 days for a knuckle and 30 days for a gap in between knuckles (except for February), go back to the start when you get to the end of your hand!

Can never remember the name of Primark.

Blueroses99 · 19/07/2024 23:45

I can’t spell itinerary (thank god for autocorrect else I wouldn’t have been able to tell you what word I can’t spell)

Apileofballyhoo · 20/07/2024 00:00

Custardandrhubarbcrumble · 19/07/2024 09:02

I think of finite being in the middle of definitely.

I have a mental block with the word occasion and always misspell it and allow autocorrect to do it's thing.

I also get stuck on principle versus principal too.

The school principal wants to be your pal...

Setorrunny · 20/07/2024 00:05

My neighbour has a phd in molecular biochemistry. We got drunk the other night and she said she can’t do telling the time on a normal clock, thinks sundials are “cod” and doesn’t always get “before and after”. I laughed so hard I was nearly weeping. Massive brain, misfiring.

she also lost her car in marks and sorcery Gemini Warrington and reported it stolen. She had just come through another door.

MessinaBloom · 20/07/2024 01:36

PuttingDownRoots · 19/07/2024 07:34

Clock changes. I know they go forward in Spring and backwards in autumn.

I just can't process whether it means more or less sleep that night!

I think about it as going back into the dark (autumn), then forwards into the light (spring).

Hoistupthemainsail · 20/07/2024 05:19

Or net is not including tax (net/not).

autienotnaughti · 20/07/2024 06:06

Definitely verbs nouns etc. also types of rock - igneous etc.

I can't remember how to spell library either.
