Really basic stuff I just can’t remember

Gross and Net. I can never remember which one relates to which figure and it’s especially annoying as I quite often have to discuss net and gross figures with clients. I don’t know why, I could check a thousand times and still never remember.

Same with Verbs, nouns, etc, which one is which FFS!

There are definitely other things but I’ve forgotten those too.

I didn’t not know which is the near side and which is the off side of a car. I always resort to driver’s side and passenger side.

NO spells NO - if you’re standing behind the car.

Only way I can remember which is which

I think the net is like a fishing net, everything in my net I can have.

I look at it the other way with my pay.

They've put a net around it and most stays in the net. The dregs that escape is what I can have and I should be very grateful for it (not!!).

Allthatsbeautifuldriftsaway · 19/07/2024 08:10

The word condone. When people use it I never know if they accept something or not.

Nearside is nearest to the kerb if that helps

Net is what you catch in your net and get to keep. Hth.

I'm a really good speller and I take pride in spelling words correctly, but I can never remember how to spell broccoli.

When adding it to my shopping list it has all variety of single and double C and L letters added.

Our English teacher told us sePARate means to PARt... never had trouble since.

Oh, I like this!

Flubadubba · 19/07/2024 08:16

I have to check my left and right. No idea why that hasn't 100% gone in.

I also struggle with shoelaces and riding a bike to the extent my husband thinks it's hilarious and they are on his list of things that he will have to teach DD when she is older.

No gross is what's after tax. Net is everything before

It's the opposite of that.

DisgruntledPelican · 19/07/2024 07:43

The spelling of “separate”. It looks wrong.

We were always taught that there’s a rat in separate. I still say it now 🤣

VeronicaBeccabunga · 19/07/2024 08:22

Left and right.
Always have to think about it.

If you draw the curtains, are you opening them or closing them? Or can it be either?

It really isn't.

Your gross pay is £30k per annum. Your net pay is what you get after tax, NI etc so will be less than your gross pay unless you don't pay tax or NI.

Already explained my error. No. Fucking. Sleep. 🤣

Just seen your update. Hope you get some sleep!

StJanetof · 19/07/2024 08:25

I occasionally have to pretend write to remind myself which is right and left. It usually comes instinctively but occasionally I’m completely vacant.

They accept (with reluctance, usually)

Scrolling up or down on a phone - or any screen. Which is which? I always get corrected by my teens but never remember…

ohtowinthelottery · 19/07/2024 08:31

I'm rubbish at remembering the few words I try to learn and use in Spanish when travelling. For years I've struggled with remembering 'sin gas' and 'con gas' when ordering water in restaurants no matter how many times I've repeated it to myself. On my last trip to Spain we stayed in an apartment which advertised itself 'con vista'. Now I can easily remember which word is 'with' as clearly no one is going to advertise accommodation as having no view!

Thepeopleversuswork · 19/07/2024 08:33

I’m generally quite good at spelling but I can never remember how to spell embarrassing or necessary.

kshaw · 19/07/2024 08:37

"There are definitely other things but I’ve forgotten those too." ... This made me laugh op 😄

I think most people have little blind spots, places where their brain just won't engage in the right way to retain the information. Gross and net I know and can use but I need half a second to think about - see also credit and debit.

The word 'definitely'. I've never struggled with spelling generally (<waits for someone to find a mistake in my post>😆), but there is something about it, the 'e's and 'i's perhaps, I always have to double check and say it to myself.

Setting the oven clock. Now that is definitely beyond my capabilities!

Definitely has an 'init' in it. I remember that from school 🤣

Ahwig · 19/07/2024 08:38

Necessary is Never eat crab eat salmon sandwiches and remain young

Whateverfuckingnext · 19/07/2024 08:43

I cannot spell unfortunately! Ever. Every single time it ends up with a red spelling error line under it.

I can never remember if it's 100 years in front or behind when talking about centuries. E.g is the 16th century the 1500s or the 1700s??

No idea about motorway lanes. My brain will not hold onto that info. Which is the inside lane??
