Disorder in Leeds

Anyone watching the public disorder in Leeds? Bloody disgusting behaviour. Animals. AIBU to wish police had so many more resources to bring consequences to these absolute excuses for humanity?

Sorry if facing up to reality offends you.
My opinion and judging from comments made in the newspapers, I'm not alone.

Having lived and worked in that area, I can assure you that many people in that area were born in England. There are also people who have emigrated there. Harehills is a very diverse area.

I am not sure how you can tell if someone was born in England or if they emigrated over here.

It's really bad, it's not the greatest area of Leeds it's happening in. The story I've seen also on social media is Social Services have intervened and taken some kids and the community has turned on them. I forsee it going on for hours.

I don't get it. Surely the community wants these children to be safe. They wouldn't take the kids away for no small reason

Poverty, dissatisfaction, drugs, no hope.

How ridiculous. You literally have no idea what the facts of the incident are or the reasons for the disorder are, yet you've already made your mind up. Astonishing!

OhHelloMiss · 18/07/2024 22:59

There's no rioting

Half of Leeds is out rubbernecking

There's a bud on fire and a police car turned over

Nothing else is going on

There can be a real distrust iof authorities. And those who thought the children should have been taken away will be too scared to say that.

serialcatbuyer · 18/07/2024 23:00

Your post reads to me like the children were removed because of an altercation with the police. Is that how you meant it ?

LuluBlakey1 · 18/07/2024 23:00

The Guardian online isn't reporting it at all

I think that’s enough 🤨 disgusting behaviour

OhHelloMiss · 18/07/2024 23:01

Bud is burning out, no fire brigade, no police

It's just younger people stood watching and filming. Nothing happening

OhHelloMiss · 18/07/2024 23:01

Oh well if the Daily Mail say it then it must be true

Yeah good point. BBC are describing it as disorder.

TBH, I think it’s got a lot more to do with it being the summer.

A good cloudburst would send them all home.

I agree. People don't riot quite as much in the pouring rain.

OhHelloMiss · 18/07/2024 23:02

Everyone standing filming it making jokes

No disorder

Lollzi86 · 18/07/2024 23:02

I live in Leeds. Certain areas are ‘rougher’ than others but I don’t like to put labels on whole communities I.e I am sure there are people in Harehills who are good and decent people and will just be horrified by what’s happening. And yes there will be people who are encouraging it. Same as anywhere. I’ve seen people who are supposedly from ‘nice’ areas kick off when they have had too much to drink etc. It’s worrying when things like this happen as there are innocents there who have done no wrong who will be stigmatised. I hope the children who have allegedly been removed are safe

Chickenuggetsticks · 18/07/2024 23:03

Sorry but I think it’s really unfair to make this about poverty. There are plenty of us here who grew up in difficult financial circumstances and would never think to set the street on fire. I saw a picture of a lad bashing a police car with a scooter, I cannot begin to describe what my mum would have done to me if she found me behaving like that

There are people who are struggling right now who wouldn’t start rioting. There is a difference between being skint and being a criminal.

I too am very familiar with the area, and of course many are English nationals, however, there are neighbouring communities nearby which are just as diverse and it isn't happening there.
Children were likely removed for their own protection, why are you not defending them?

Videos I’ve seen on Reddit show a community united! All ethnicities taking part. Never mind, no race wars for you today!

Good post @Lollzi86.

What sort of a cunt sets fire to a bus?

Probably the same 'community' who would blame social workers and the police when shit parents neglect and abuse their own children to death. What do these people want? Children to stay in a dangerous household?

I feel sorry for the innocent people in the area. Must be very scary right now.

Lollzi86 · 18/07/2024 23:06

@Chickenuggetsticks exactly. I’m from a poor background but guarantee my mum would have gone mickey mental if I ever did such a thing!!!

StillCreatingAName · 18/07/2024 23:07

Seen through the lens of TikTok and X is really not the whole story. As pp said, her daughter safely walked back from her book club tonight in that area. I feel for emergency services workers who have to deal with these tense community situations, it’s really not helpful having folk stood around filming for ‘viewers’ who really don’t understand the wider situation.

If that's your idea of a community united, I'm glad I don't live in your area!
