Anyone watching the public disorder in Leeds? Bloody disgusting behaviour. Animals. AIBU to wish police had so many more resources to bring consequences to these absolute excuses for humanity?

It's not only the poverty though. It's the drugs, the lack of access to decent education and healthcare, (often justified) distrust of authority, lack of support for those who want to make life better for the communities, the racial tensions that have been stirred up by government over the last decade ....

They do have access to education and healthcare. They aren’t living in Haiti for gods sake. Do you know why they don’t trust authorities, because they are behaving in a way that brings them to the attention of authorities.

Overspill of anger from losing the Euro game

Don't be ridiculous. It's just kicking a ball around. The right team won.

More like 14 years of crap Tories.

And…bingo!

There are reports coming in of shoplifting in Timbuktu. I blame the Tories.

I think that demonstrates you have no idea about the kind of hardship some communities face.

Communities up and down the country face horrendous hardship and don't set fire to buses or encourage their children to riot.

suburberphobe · 18/07/2024 23:19

Agree with you @ LordPercyPercy.

justasking111 · 18/07/2024 23:19

Most of them are young kids, laughing, joking, street party time. That's not to excuse it. But I don't see the malice I've seen in riots decades ago.

My DD lives in Harehills. Her boyfriend took this picture. I think it is very isolated. As a retired SW I can confirm it can be terrifying removing a child from a violent and unpredictable family.

This is precisely why the children needed to be removed. What an awful extreme environment to bring up a child. They will be safe now thank goodness.

UnfriendMe · 18/07/2024 23:20

I hate when people refer to shitty people as "animals", as if animals aren't so much better than people.

OhHelloMiss · 18/07/2024 23:20

It's all very civilised now

Nobody causing trouble

RedToothBrush · 18/07/2024 23:20

Runbunny · 18/07/2024 22:13

The city is rioting because children were removed from a neglectful family?

It has happened every few years in Leeds, albeit it that previously its been in a slightly different part of the city.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_riots_in_Leeds

I'm also aware of unrest in the city which isn't in this list because it wasn't as serious but certainly caused disruption.

I think that demonstrates you have no idea about the kind of hardship some communities face.

Some communities have experienced hardship from the year dot, and decades ago would have experienced a hell of a lot more hardship than they do now. They’re not even rioting because of hardship - they’re rioting because some neglected children have been removed from a toxic situation.

1dayatatime · 18/07/2024 23:22

Crowsruletheworld · 18/07/2024 22:41

Won’t the pollution from the burning bus and bins be toxic? Fumes etc?
Very sad.

True but if the rioters don't care about setting fire then buses and police cars then I think causing air pollution is also low on their priorities.

Twototwo15 · 18/07/2024 23:22

Runbunny · 18/07/2024 22:51

Yes, I'm shocked at the responses form some here deriding the idea that this is caused by poverty, neglect, dissatisfaction.

This is exactly why looking after the most vulnerable is a mark of civilisation.

Edited

Isn’t that what was happening by taking vulnerable children away from neglect and danger to safety? People who riot over that are not what I would describe as “vulnerable”.

What make you think that those young men can't have been born in Leeds?

And there have been outbreaks of rioting among the disenfranchised since the year too.

There are some very, very good schools around there as far as what’s being provided and the standards of teaching.

Those children you see in the videos (whose parents are allowing them to be there) will be going to school and the teachers doing their utmost to do the best for them.

Can you see the problem?

They have access to far more than many thousands (millions) of people who would never behave like this.

That might have led to some anger today (see distrust of authority) but it's not what led to an environment where this can happen.

LuluBlakey1 · 18/07/2024 23:16

No- they are showing black, asian and middle-eastern people on the whole and the ones involved in the actions are young and male, lots of encouragement in foreign languages being screamed and shouted- don't know what- and women standing around in the midst of it but mainly taking photos and some smiling/laughing.

That's not what I'm seeing - the guy punching the police car is a middle-aged, tattooed white man; the one whacking it with a scooter is also a white man. The crowd round the three or four police are made up of white and Asian descent, the lads staring at the police car on its side are 2 white and 2 Asian descent. I was assuming the middle-aged tattooed guy was a born and bred Yorkshireman of Norse origin who'd had one too many pints of bitter int' pub tonight....

EmeraldRoses · 18/07/2024 23:28

Oh please let's be honest most of them out causing trouble in Leeds aren't the "vulnerable" or the "unheard" what a load of bollocks! They don't have a "cause", they're just horrible little shits who are jumping on the bandwagon cos they know they can get away with it, they enjoy causing trouble, and they come in every colour and every race and you get them in every city.

I completely agree. The mental gymnastics being used to portray the rioters as the victims is ridiculous. The victims are the innocent people trapped and scared in their own homes by this bullshit, and the taxpayers who have to pay for this nonsense to be cleaned up.

I hate when people refer to shitty people as "animals", as if animals aren't so much better than people.

Animals don’t drink and drive.
Animals don’t take a knife and plunge it into another.
Animals don’t pick up a gun and walk into a school and shoot 19 innocent children.

Human beings do all those things.

ll09sm · 18/07/2024 23:31

Wonder how many of these are being kept by the taxpayer who then has to foot the bill to clean up the stuff they smash.

But someone will be along soon to lecture everyone about how under privileged they are so let them smash a few things because it’s progressive innit.

Their street and around. Nobody is travelling there from Headingly with matches and flares.

Sadly people who have the same mentality as the people burning the place, will travel there. Its like a sport for them. They will be giddy with excitement at being part of the current lawlessness.

Communities up and down the country face horrendous hardship and don't set fire to buses or encourage their children to riot.

Look in any community where poverty is rife and you will find feral kids and young men. For example, lots of communities in the north east lose evening bus services, periodically, due to recurring incidences of bricks through bus windows and any rumour of something big kicking off and those kids would find their way over there for the LOLZ.
