Anyone watching the public disorder in Leeds? Bloody disgusting behaviour. Animals. AIBU to wish police had so many more resources to bring consequences to these absolute excuses for humanity?

Yes, he either misunderstood based (due to his personal prejudices) or deliberately lied. I would assume the former but it's not as if Farage isn't sometimes deliberately racist, so who knows.

Could you give me some examples of when Nigel was deliberately racist.

I did do an internet search but unfortunately Google was not my friend in quickly finding any quotes, but I assume you must know some given your comment

i think it is good to know the facts about our politicians. Of course all the conservative stuff and I remember seeing an interview where Sir Keir blatantly lied to a group of young school children.

I don't see much point in citing examples of Farage's racism to someone who has already shown that they'll bend over backwards to excuse it.

OneTC · 21/07/2024 21:11

"If you and your mates were going out for a Chinese, what do you say you’re going for?" he asked.

No that's you and your mates Nigel

presume your response is as empty as Google then

I made a perfectly valid assumption supported by clear logical evidence. But if you wish to go on making false and slanderous accusations keep digging

Let me help you with your validation of your other unsubstantiated statement

Question. What do you understand by the term the subcontinent
Answer. Well it is a part of a continent, so depends which continent you are referring to.

You're both dishonest and disingenuous Smile

I am neither, but elegant cerebral argument, oh sorry my mistake just abuse and prejudice.

I am sorry I don’t get the Chinese comment in your other post. Is it something Nigel said. If so what does it mean?

He defended Ukip candidate Kerry Smith for using the word "ch**ky" to describe a Chinese person. "If you and your mates were going out for a Chinese, what do you say you’re going for?" he asked.

Well - he either saw Romanians in the video and tweeted about Europe and the politics of the sub continent (referring to Europe)

or he thought he saw Muslims rioting and was referring to the Indian sub continent and the politics from there.

Occam's Razor

HarrietPierce · 21/07/2024 21:55

Just a few examples of Farage's racist remarks :

His claim that some Muslim immigrants are 'coming here to take us over'
In 2013, Farage said he supported Muslim immigrants who “integrate” into society, but not those who are “coming here to take us over”.
When he agreed with the 'basic principle' of Enoch Powell’s Rivers of Blood speech
In 2014, he said that the “basic principle” of Enoch Powell’s infamous anti-immigration Rivers of Blood speech was correct.
Saying he felt 'uncomfortable' hearing foreign languages on the Tube
In a 2014 interview on LBC, Farage said he felt "uncomfortable" when he heard people speaking other languages on London transport.

ofVeracity · 21/07/2024 21:56

IClaudine · 21/07/2024 20:37

Especially given what Farage has said in the past.

Which I graciously acknowledged and thanked you for and understood from that why you and others thought he was referring to the Indian sub continent.

As I explained I had never heard him discussing that before (not an adherent of that channel, which I assume goes for many). But I gave sound logical reasons why on reading the comment I assumed he meant Europe and the politics of immigration both of which are his raison d”etre.

I requested an explanation of alternative explanations but just got random meaningless comments until your reply.

However for those that only have abuse and slander, I find it difficult to give any credit to anything they espouse, and that is why politics has become so toxic.

cakeorwine · 21/07/2024 21:59

"But I gave sound logical reasons why on reading the comment I assumed he meant Europe and the politics of immigration both of which are his raison d”etre"

You heard sub continent and assumed he meant Europe?

Honestly - I have never heard anyone refer to Europe and the sub continent.

HarrietPierce · 21/07/2024 22:03

Of course the racist little grifter was referring to the Indian sub continent.

Another weasely response.

I asked you,

"If you google "the subcontinent" - what results do you get?"

no doubt, the honest answer would be several pages of results about the Indian subcontinent, as that's what the phrase "the subcontinent" generally references.

But, to avoid providing an honest answer, you write your own question instead.

More recently "[Rishi Sunak] is not patriotic, he doesn't care about our history, our culture."

Of course, he went on to claim that he was referencing Sunak's wealth and class, but I doubt anyone honestly believes that (even if they'll claim to).

You rarely get petty/violent crime or disorder in a city like Dubai because a) there is a very strong and resourced police force and b) it simply isn't tolerated.

Here it's the complete opposite.

Absolutely!
Our authorities need to take note.

HarrietPierce · 21/07/2024 22:44

There was also the infamous "Breaking Point" poster which was reported to the police for inciting racial hatred.

I refuse to believe that anyone that can string 2 words together would presume that "the subcontinent" would ever mean Europe. You don't come across as that stupid. So I stand by my dishonest and disingenuous assessment

Ah more abuse from the brains trust

I think you will find you are quite wrong, check and see

my response you quoted was to your comment …
“I don't see much point in citing examples of Farage's racism to someone who has already shown that they'll bend over backwards to excuse it.”

Nothing about googling subcontinent, which was presumably in one of your numerous other posts. However I don’t normally snap to the commands of slanderous abusers, as I see it as an indication of limitation of their ability to rationally debate an issue, as well as being rather rude to other human beings. But actually the first item presented when searching subcontinent is

  1. a large distinguishable part of a continent, such as North America or the part of Asia containing India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

It also lists various subcontinents

why would I search for “the subcontinent” ? If I wanted info on trolls for example I would not search for “the trolls”. But I already knew what a subcontinent was. If you think I am deficient for not knowing some people refer to India as “the subcontinent” fine, that is your problem not mine. It seems rather elitist to me and demeaning to the other subcontinents, of which even if you base your classification on geology, there are several. You don’t mention for instance that South Africa is also referred to as the subcontinent. All fairly arbitrary.

Interesting though how certain posters are very keen to divert the thread from the actual problems and issues in Leeds, to debate ad infinitum an ambiguous post by Mr F. More especially when what they say he meant was actually going on in London. Almost like some want to brush the simmering issues (that even the Guardian reported in 2018) under the carpet and pretend they do not exist, a very dangerous game.

For someone who seems to deride abuse, you certainly like to give it out by making serious false personal accusations about people. Pure prejudice I am afraid, but carry on if that’s the way you swing, you obviously know no better.

It is dangerous when a prominent politician and leader of a political party decides to use his platform to add fuel to a fire to a situation he knows nothing about.

Unless you don't think that's an issue.

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 22/07/2024 07:57

Honestly, in Leeds no one gives a shit what NF said. Whether he was technically right depending on context. Whether he was Completely wrong. Wether he was intentionally wrong or just a bit trigger happy and could be arsed looking it up.

This is the whole problem and this is why people like reform get voted for. Because people rather than accept there is an actual problem in lots of communities, it’s been argued there value in arguing about the technicalities of a tweet.

All the while every group of people in these communities feel ignored, forgotten and get more pissed off.

People who are egged on by NF, would be using this as an excuse anyway.

MaturingCheeseball · 22/07/2024 08:26

There is so much Whataboutery on this thread. We all know about Nigel Farage and his ilk. Should he have jumped in? No. But also making him the whole focus of this rioting is bizarre. So don’t look at the rioters in Leeds, no, look at what Nigel Farage said!

I’m agreeing with @ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo - it just seems like a concerted effort to shut down discussion.

Shoyden · 22/07/2024 08:30

It is a shame that there is no debate on the issue of mass immigration without racism being shouted from the get go. I do think the people who believe it is racist to discuss probably live in areas least affected by the issue. They probably pass by an area of high immigration occasionally, in a car most likely, and go 'what a quaint community. I'm glad my country is so diverse' then drive home to their neighbourhood of low cultural diversity.
As a woman you can no longer even walk through Birmingham or Sheffield in shorts without getting glared at or spat on. Many people to that will think 'well I'll never walk through Birmingham or Sheffield'. Good for you love, but it's part of your country that has been forcibly changed culturally by the people who are supposed to govern it properly. Ffs.
