Why would anyone do this?!?!?

5ft 2in banker settles £1m case against her leg-lengthening surgeon

Elaine Foo, (pictured with her legal team), sued her leg surgeon Dr Jean-Marc Guichet (pictured inset) over his alleged botched operation. She worked in London for Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

The average height for a woman includes all adult women, including the elderly. Women have got taller across all generations with better nutrition but currently it includes women born during wartime rationing.

Mumofspaceboy02 · 18/07/2024 07:13

Hmm I’m struggling not to agree with the dear in the article around the whole 16 cm difference when she stood up.

Also my mum born in the early 50s has shrunk at least 2 inches from her tallest adult height since turning 65 so many elderly women were taller when they were younger.

wherethewildthingis · 18/07/2024 07:31

I was offered this surgery for medical reasons as a teenager. I decided against it and instead had several inches cut from my longer, healthy leg. This has also had life long complications but I really had no choice.

I wouldn't consider messing about with bones for cosmetic reasons !

dottiedodah · 18/07/2024 07:43

At 5 feet and precisely nothing.I feel for this lady. However my cousin and my Nan were the same height as me (Mum slightly taller ).I have never really felt inadequate at all. BF all taller!

Wartime rationing didn’t result in a nutritionally poor diet. It was probably better than it is now, particularly for children.

NomenNudum · 18/07/2024 08:36

She would have done better to sue her workplace for fostering a hostile environment for women.

Isn’t it so people in the window seats can see how far away the drinks trolley is?

😂

I personally wouldn't, I didn't even know this was a thing. I'm the same height and it's never bothered me but I suppose if it really bothers someone then it's no different to having any other kind of cosmetic surgery

It is very different to other kinds of cosmetic surgery.

See my post of 22.27 yesterday.

In which I am actually quite sparse in the details of the procedure and many ramifications of the aftermath.

Nc4dis · 18/07/2024 09:29

I understand her motivations, as a 5”1 woman this is actually the only cosmetic surgery I would consider.

I’ve not been bullied over it but it is annoying. I play badminton and I would be SO much better if I was taller. The net is the same height whether you are 5”1 or 6”6, I just can’t get the angle on the shots, or the reach, like other people can. Most sports at school, like netball, I was shite at because of my short legs and height.

Then there’s concerts, shelves, cars, and all clothes being too big. It’s not just the length, everything nowadays is like a baggy tent (prairie dresses anyone?) so for tight-fitting or even vaguely fitted clothes I have to shop on Shein. Also if I put on a few kg it’s really noticeable.

If the surgery wasn’t so painful/risky/long, but more like say a boob job, I would probably get it!

My partner is 5”6 and I feel like we fit really well together because of our heights. But he HAS faced a lifetime of comments and “banter” because of his height (and nearly all girls saying “I don’t date short guys”) - I think for guys it is much worse. Luckily he doesn’t care what others think.

MaturingCheeseball · 18/07/2024 09:30

I had a schoolfriend who was 6’3” and I feel that’s much worse for a woman. My friend’s mum always said she was 5’12” 😁 .

I think this woman is a bit barmy: a) 5’2” is hardly super short b) Bullied? I’m sceptical and c) did she think this operation would be like having Botox or even a rhinoplasty? I really think some of these surgeons have the ethics gene missing - look at Michael Jackson or Katie Price.

BIWI · 18/07/2024 10:15

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 17/07/2024 23:47

So? it's a tiny difference and with any average there's a range.

And your point is?

Pouche · 18/07/2024 10:33

I’m 5 foot 3. Am I crazy that I don’t feel especially short? Of course I know I am but it’s VERY rarely an issue if ever.

This is mental!

Also, all this height is only added to your thighs. Not sure I’d only want to elongate that part of my body. Odd proportions

Nc4dis · 18/07/2024 10:42

On a separate note, I would really recommend learning to sew! Take in/up all your clothes, can make sleeves shorter, can make stuff from scratch, never pay for alterations again - great life skill to have 😁

AbraAbraCadabra · 18/07/2024 18:08

Thunderandlightningisfrightening · 17/07/2024 14:06

No I'm 5 foot 3 and buy short leg jeans.
It's drastic to have that operation and look what's happened to her because of it

I’m 5’ 3”, Do you not find that the short is a tiny bit too short and the regular is often too long? I usually find I’m just in between lengths at 5’3”. Maybe it’s a body shape thing (ie my massive hips and arse are pulling up the trousers a little 😂)

Musicalitymum · 18/07/2024 18:09

I’m 5 ft and never found it a problem. It’s so sad she felt the need for it!

This. I think there’s a big difference between a boob job or a.tummy tuck and messing about with bone length!

Completelydonechick · 18/07/2024 18:13

Being so short, and living my life in platforms, I would definitely have this operation if I had the money! I feel very powerless in flats, and people tend to baby me, weirdly…… I’m not sure if I could be arsed to go through the pain for a measly 2” though!!!!!

changedusernameforthis1 · 18/07/2024 18:17

I understand why people do this. I'm 4'7" and when I was in my late teens I was so sure that this was one of my goals.
I changed my mind after seeing how horrendously people can suffer after having it done, but if there was a chance to be taller without the risk involved then I would 100% do it, even just to get to 5 foot.
Unfortunately my poor DS has inherited the short family gene from my side, and is currently the size of an average 8-9 year old at 13.

TimeandMotion · 18/07/2024 18:23

I guess she just always identified as a tall person.

HesterRoon · 18/07/2024 18:39

Leg lengthening surgery is awful-nothing like breast implants.

Packetofcrispsplease · 18/07/2024 19:04

5’2” is a perfectly acceptable height 🤔 and average for her ethnic group .
I don’t have too many issues getting clothes as short length is fine ( one pair of wide leg trousers I have are actually a 29” inside leg ) and so many places do petite clothes.
I don’t need extra short .
I need a step stool sometimes to reach kitchen cupboards and will sometimes ask a taller person to reach something for me in the supermarket.
I did use to wear heels more but I find sneakers much comfier

ha ha, that made me laugh

spottedinthewild · 18/07/2024 19:31

I'm 4ft 10. If I could afford this I would. EVERYTHING is hard work in a world build for taller people.
