Why would anyone do this?!?!?

5ft 2in banker settles £1m case against her leg-lengthening surgeon

Elaine Foo, (pictured with her legal team), sued her leg surgeon Dr Jean-Marc Guichet (pictured inset) over his alleged botched operation. She worked in London for Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

I worked in banking. Never once ever did anyone ever mention my height! I think I read that she went on to say it was one colleague. One swallow doesn’t make a summer…

I think that people can obsess over a physical characteristic and blame all their ills on it - boobs, bum, teeth, nose… even when to a neutral observer they look perfectly fine.

NomenNudum · 21/07/2024 12:04

She should have asked to be posted to the Singapore office, she would have been average height there.

Probably should stay away from the Scandinavian countries, though I hear they're very nice places to live otherwise.

I guess for the same reason people have nose jobs, boob jobs…the list goes on. To give them confidence and a feeling of being ‘normal’. As a small person myself, it can be intimidating constantly having everyone literally looking down at you all the time, constantly struggling to get food shopping off the top shelves and also having to be super slim to prevent yourself from looking bigger than you actually are.

I’m 5”10 and was bullied relentlessly for my height at my Scottish secondary school and I think I’ll always feel unfeminine because of it (combined with little boobs). But I do love being able to load my roofbox and helping get things down from top shelves for people.

I remember seeing a documentary years ago where some Scandinavian women were having vertebrae removed to reduce their height - I kid you not!!! I won’t be doing that.

Can I say ‘Thank you’ as it’s helpful people like you that I need when I’m doing my Sainsbury’s shop 😊

It must be a bugger for the product placement people who put things at eye height to make you notice them.
Would be interesting to see their height versus demographic stats.

I'm less than five feet tall and leg lengthening surgery, even if it goes right, baffles me

If your legs are short, then your arms are also short

You're left with disproportionately long legs and little T-Rex arms

What do you do when you do get to that high shelf?

You still can't reach to the back of it

quantumbutterfly · 21/07/2024 13:18

That's why people t-rex in supermarkets. Another Mumsnet question answered.

Probably what killed off the dinosaurs too.
