To NOT support England ???

Shaketherombooga · 15/07/2024 11:49

I’m not English. I have lived in England for a very long time. I do not support the England football team, I frequently support their opposition!

Colleague has taken the England loss hard, and said ‘ I bet you’re glad they lost’ - I replied that I was essentially a neutral but thought Spain deserved the win.

Hes gone off in a big old rant about how if I live here I should be supporting England teams etc.
I think he should have a wee lie down and chill out!

YABU - you SHOULD support the team of a country you’ve made a life in - even if you are from a former colony of that country

YANBU - of course you don’t have to support a national team that’s not yours

Dave update - he’s just messaged an apology for being ‘over the top’ yesterday apparently it has been a long day and a late night etc.
and I am free to support any team I choose… cheers Davy!

Will you be offering an apology for purposely being antagonistic and lacking of any tact?

lolly792 · 16/07/2024 09:57

Davy for the win!

I hope he’s proud of the fantastic work he has done. He has rebuilt the England team and achieved more consistently strong results than any other previous England manager. Well done Gareth. You’ll be missed 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

May I ask if there's something specific that you don't like about the English, which makes you support the opposition teams?

lolly792 · 16/07/2024 11:53

@Acapulco12 he had a tough gig after the disasters of previous managers. Good bloke, no surprise at all that he's resigned, I bet he's looking forward to a rest from it!

No, because I wasn’t in any way whatsoever other than saying that I was ‘basically a neutral’ for the England Spain game. Read the original post.

The FA obvs decided being constant runner up isn’t good enough. The only way to change the outcome is to change the method or manager.

No shit!

With such amazing insights and Sunday football experience (not to mention VERY flexible working hours) you should be in the running for the job.

I’ve read your original post - and your subsequent ones. I don’t believe for a second that you implied you were neutral. Your posts on this thread show you to be quite argumentative and the type that would get a kick out of causing an issue whilst playing some victim complex.

condolences, England might actually win next, manager dependent. This must be tough news for you

What about countries who did even make the quarter finals? I think we should just dismantle them completely.

Thanks for this. Despite all of that, it’s without a doubt that GS has been the best England manager since Alf Ramsey (whose team won the 1966 World Cup). He has been outstanding.

Look at how antagonistic you are! Christ. I can guarantee ‘Davy’ and the team are rolling their eyes.

@Saltedbutter never mind Davy and the work colleagues (who are no doubt imaginary) .... imagine the OP's poor family!!
