Slapped in the face with a tortilla wrap.

Title says it all really.

Backstory:

Just cooked tea for the family (though not myself as I wasn’t hungry)

DP took his time coming to the table, which was slightly annoying but is what it is.

He sat down and asked for sauces, I looked at him and told him where they were (as in get them yourself)

He looks at me with mock puppy dog eyes and says “but I have a bad foot and I’ve been working on your house all day”

  1. He does have a bad foot after he impaled it on two rusty nails while building a fence at my house.
  2. He’s been plastering walls all day at my house
The house we live in is in his name so I’ve recently bought my own as an investment/security for myself. He has been incredibly helpful with doing up the property so I got up and got him the condiments…. ….only to be slapped in the face with a tortilla wrap!

He thought it was funny, DSS thought it was funny (my DS still hadn’t made it downstairs to the table at this point) and when I was clearly unamused DP’s response was “It’s a thing!!” And tried to justify himself by saying it’s something trending online. I did pick up his drink and threaten to throw it over him but stopped as I didn’t want to be the one to clear up the mess after - it feel guilty for it as I undoubtedly would.

So
AIBU - lighten up it’s just a joke
AINBU - Cheeky (Expletive) can make his own food in future.

Just because it's online, doesn't make it funny.

Often the opposite is true. Online trends are often stupid af.

No one must ever muck about according to MN. Serious faces and no laughing allowed.

It's almost as if not everyone finds the same things funny.

Just because someone doesn't think being hit in the face with food items is hilarious that doesn't mean they have no sense of humour. We laugh and muck about a lot in this house but none of us would think hitting someone in the face with food was funny because "it's an online thing".

K0OLA1D · 14/07/2024 19:56

I thought it was meant to be a wet tortilla!

I thought it was meant to be a wet tortilla!

It is! Or it doesn't make the noise or stick or whatever

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 14/07/2024 19:28

He'd have been squirted in the face with the condiments if he'd done that to me.

This, online trend or not. Jesus, the things that pass for humour these days. Maybe mildly amusing with a couple of kids, but adults, seriously?

And am a bit perplexed by all those agreeing it's funny, are you the same people demanding an OP ltb and call the police at any post that involves violence?

Makegoodchoices · 14/07/2024 20:09

AFmammaG · 14/07/2024 19:52

Jeez. Did you miss the part where her partner has spent the day working on a house that is her investment property? Or that he impaled his foot building a fence at her house?

The OP has at no point indicated she was injured as a result of the TORTILLA.

But yeah, she should definitely LTB Hmm

Just curious where the line is - when does it start and stop being funny to you? Personally I don’t find ‘jokes’ at just one person’s expense funny.

And I don’t think that being helpful to someone means that you can treat them poorly. My DH recently washed my car - does that mean I shouldn’t mind if he pies me in the face unexpectedly? Weird logic.

Kateof · 14/07/2024 20:10

Grow up.

I've seen some "wet lettuce" threads on MN, but this is something else.

Yes it's a wet tortilla thread.

Im worried as your partner seems to be underage?

Just mentally it would seem. He’s older than me, in his 40’s.

Yes it's a wet tortilla thread.

Disappointingly dry it seems

TheSerenePinkOrca · 14/07/2024 20:39

Is this like the throwing a cheese slice to stop a baby crying thing?

I would have found it funny and thrown it back, probably wiping it on my arm pit first! 😂

Sugargliderwombat · 14/07/2024 20:39

I'd have found this funny and got him back another time.

Papergirl1968 · 14/07/2024 20:48

At least it wasn’t a wet fish… 🐟

hummingbird14 · 14/07/2024 21:05

I'm a very easy going person but I wouldn't have appreciated this, joke or not. It's like the trend of parents cracking eggs on their kids heads. It's horrible.

NasiDagang · 14/07/2024 21:16

I don't want to be slapped on my face because of some stupid Tiktok trend.

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 14/07/2024 21:18

It is a thing, as in it's a game that is quite funny in a group. (Kevin Hart and Duane Johnson were very funny playing it). The idea is that people have a mouthful of water and take turns slapping each other with a tortilla until someone laughs and spits out the water.

That's not the same as slapping someone with a tortilla without warning or consent. Just because "it's a thing" doesn't mean you have to put up with it.

PricklyPearl · 14/07/2024 21:24

I wouldn’t find this funny at all, if he’d used mock puppy dogs eyes I’d have asked what the fuck was wrong with his face. We don’t muck around with food at the table in this house. What a childish prat.

DreamTheMoors · 14/07/2024 21:32

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/07/2024 19:28

It's funny when the other person laughs.

What happened is that OP cooked for two people when she wasn't eating, fetched condiments for him, then was slapped in the face and laughed at. Ha-fucking-ha.

Online pranks are turning people into proper idiots. And I say that as someone who lives in a house where we regularly slap each other's arses.

I thought jokes are when everybody laughs.

WiddlinDiddlin · 14/07/2024 21:38

I wouldn't have been amused.

Its not a joke if the 'victim' of the joke doesn't actually find it funny.

He isn't justified in his actions because he's been putting some effort in on her behalf either.

But obviously this makes me a wet lettuce, so I am going to lighten up and now that my DP has cooked dinner, and since I have after all been at work 8 hours today to fund both our lives... I shall go and wallop him in the face with checks plate a bowl of salad and a cheeseburger.

Hilarious!

JMSA · 14/07/2024 21:39

I'm a single mum and would KILL for a practical, helpful bloke like your partner.
Well, not really, as I'm happy on my own.
All things considered, I'd forgive the tortilla slap Grin

betterangels · 14/07/2024 21:46

The fact that you cooked when you weren't even eating yourself and then was slapped in the face with a food item and laughed at. All because it's a thing on the Internet. It's so ridiculous.

albatrossjoe · 14/07/2024 21:56

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 14/07/2024 19:26

That isn't the trend though is it? The trend is to take it in turns to hit each other while having a mouthful of water and try not to spit it out. So it's 2 consenting people doing it, not just someone randomly walloping someone because they refuse to get the sauce out of the fridge/cupboard

This!

Honestly OP I'd have been livid. Feels super disrespectful and terrible that it's in front of kids. What he's done isn't the trend (and even if it was, what grown man thinks it's socially acceptable to essentially throw food at someone's face).

Exactlab · 14/07/2024 21:58

Anneta · 14/07/2024 19:19

It’s an online thing. Surprised you haven’t seen it. He was joking.

I haven’t seen it.

learieonthewildmoor · 14/07/2024 21:58

I would not like that.
I wouldn’t be in a relationship with someone who had that sense of humour.
Embarassing and startling people in that way is disrespectful and hurtful. You teach kids not to do things like that.
