Slapped in the face with a tortilla wrap.

Title says it all really.

Backstory:

Just cooked tea for the family (though not myself as I wasn’t hungry)

DP took his time coming to the table, which was slightly annoying but is what it is.

He sat down and asked for sauces, I looked at him and told him where they were (as in get them yourself)

He looks at me with mock puppy dog eyes and says “but I have a bad foot and I’ve been working on your house all day”

  1. He does have a bad foot after he impaled it on two rusty nails while building a fence at my house.
  2. He’s been plastering walls all day at my house
The house we live in is in his name so I’ve recently bought my own as an investment/security for myself. He has been incredibly helpful with doing up the property so I got up and got him the condiments…. ….only to be slapped in the face with a tortilla wrap!

He thought it was funny, DSS thought it was funny (my DS still hadn’t made it downstairs to the table at this point) and when I was clearly unamused DP’s response was “It’s a thing!!” And tried to justify himself by saying it’s something trending online. I did pick up his drink and threaten to throw it over him but stopped as I didn’t want to be the one to clear up the mess after - it feel guilty for it as I undoubtedly would.

So
AIBU - lighten up it’s just a joke
AINBU - Cheeky (Expletive) can make his own food in future.

So it's 2 consenting people doing it
Crikey lighten up. It was a joke. OP has in no way suggested she was hurt. He got it wrong. Hardly crime of the century.

Poppysmom22 · 14/07/2024 19:31

The cheese slice was a total mare to get off glasses though

pambeesleyhalpert · 14/07/2024 19:33

I wouldn't have found this funny

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/07/2024 19:33

Yes, BBQ Sauce in the face if he's going to be that childish, he gets it back.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/07/2024 19:33

I'd be packing and relocating to my own house.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/07/2024 19:34

It sounds like horseplay and jokes if you take it that way, and that's how you and your family interact at dinner. If it took you by shock and seemed aggressive then it could be considered absolutely LTB levels of abuse..nearly.
I hope there was no harm done and he apologised. I personally wouldn't be having that but I don't like messing around/joking with food and neither does DH.

Makegoodchoices · 14/07/2024 19:34

Would it be funny if it was a hand and not a tortilla?

AbraAbraCadabra · 14/07/2024 19:35

Anneta · 14/07/2024 19:19

It’s an online thing. Surprised you haven’t seen it. He was joking.

Just because it's online, doesn't make it funny.

Greentapemeasure · 14/07/2024 19:35

I wouldn’t have found that funny, it’s disrespectful and a terrible lesson to the child watching. I would’ve probably walked out of the house.

Octavia64 · 14/07/2024 19:35

I was hit a lot as a child.

So I probably have different reactions to most people.

But I'd either cry, run away, or following some martial arts training as an adult block the hit.

I was at uni with a lot of people who thought this kind of thing was funny (and to be fair I can see how it is funny I just have reflexes...) and after a while they stopped doing it with me as someone running off crying isn't the response they are going for.

slappedinthefacewithatortilla · 14/07/2024 19:36

Here for the name change only

MasterBeth · 14/07/2024 19:25

Everyone's online experience is very different. There's no reason the OP will have seen it. I haven't.

Same.

I’m on Instagram, Reddit, and Facebook and haven’t seen it. Hasn’t shown up in my algorithms at all.

Probably will show up under TikTok cringe in Reddit.

I’m all for jokes but if the other person is caught unawares and isn’t laughing or is uncomfortable, it isn’t really a joke.

AstonMartha · 14/07/2024 19:37

He’s a child.

The whole thing is shit especially in front of a child. He’s a grown man who can sort himself out and should know not to throw his food. I wouldn’t have got any for him after that.

Did he eat the tortilla?

FindThatThing · 14/07/2024 19:38

I do not understand half of these comments.

That was not ok thing to do and not funny.

And the stupid ”nobody apperently have fun”, please.
I’m sure plenty of people have fun (as a couple), this was not it.

”Lighten up”, no wonder there are so many people in abusive relationships.

AstonMartha · 14/07/2024 19:39

If you had both watched and laughed at the clip together it might be funny but he’s just a twat.

AquaFurball · 14/07/2024 19:39

Wasn't that 2 or 3 years ago? Either very outdated or trends are so pathetic now they are repeating faster than ever. Wasn't funny then either

itsgettingweird · 14/07/2024 19:41

I've no idea why "slapped round the face by a tortilla" made me laugh so much.

But it did.

If you are t happy with him doing such things (there was no malicious intent as mentioned above) then have a quiet word with him later out of earshot of the kids.

Your problem is if he carries on knowing you don't like it.

wibblywobblywoo · 14/07/2024 19:42

Anneta · 14/07/2024 19:19

Time to be even more surprised, I haven't seen it either.

And I'm with you OP, if it was your 12 yr old you'd at least think, whilst still v annoying and stupid, it was age appropriate, but a grown man? What a twat.

itsmylife7 · 14/07/2024 19:47

Skinglow · 14/07/2024 19:22

I laughed at your title, sorry.

so did I 😀

itsmylife7 · 14/07/2024 19:48

about the rusty nails did they penetrate through his skin.?

I'm sorry OP but I did laugh at the title.

RanchRat · 14/07/2024 19:50

It was fucking disrespectful, copying a bunch of children on the internet is not a good look, especially when you have cooked for him. Ignorant fucking twat.

SaphiraBlue · 14/07/2024 19:52

itsmylife7 · 14/07/2024 19:48

I'm sorry OP but I did laugh at the title.

Yes, He pulled them out and continued to build the fence 🤦‍♀️ I had to take him the walk in centre the next day as his foot had swelled and it didn’t look too good. Nurse confirmed infection and gave him a Tetanus jab. This was last week and he’s run out of antibiotics. It’s still painful so he may need another course.

I feel bad for him, even worse that he did it through doing a job to help me out.

Jeez. Did you miss the part where her partner has spent the day working on a house that is her investment property? Or that he impaled his foot building a fence at her house?

The OP has at no point indicated she was injured as a result of the TORTILLA.

But yeah, she should definitely LTB Hmm

SeeSeeRider · 14/07/2024 19:55

Maybe karma will bite and he'll get tetanus from the rust nails (seriously - that can happen from garden wounds - are his jabs up to date?) [UPDATE - sorry, I see that's been dealt with!]

Skinglow · 14/07/2024 19:55

I didn't think it would be long before the 'he's abusive' lot would appear. I'm surprised she hasn't been advised to log it with 101
