There are some people shockingly on this thread sending emojis to each other and others wishing the shooter had not missed.

You are a disgrace. Imagine if the person in the crowd who was killed was a relative of yours? They are being interviewed and sound stunned and shocked. They might not have the beliefs you have but that doesn’t matter.

I once went to see Farage speak years ago. You couldn’t get tickets and they had to put on another event. He was talking about our area being a garden town. I don’t vote for him but he had something to say and I wanted to listen to him. Would I deserve to have been shot if there was some nutter was in the crowd.

You wasted money listening to Farage speak because he 'had something to say'? Pull the other one.

People post all sorts of rubbish. It wasn’t staged. A person died

Yes, and all confirmed by the US Secret Service as being a real attack by someone they then shot dead. 👇

Two people died - shooter and an innocent civilian in the crowd.

Two innocent civilians injured.

Donald trump!!

Oldfatandfrumpy · 14/07/2024 10:45

You're all right, I apologise it was an emotional reaction on hearing the news but I shouldn't have aired it publicly.

I think the US is pretty much buggered when it comes to Trump. He loses and they are plunged into trouble when he and his supporters claim another election has been lost due to being rigged, and go on a rampage.

He wins and they've given a wannabe dictator, a friend of Putin and someone who seems to believe that Handmaids tale is a good blueprint for society, the keys to power again

I just can't see this ending well either way

BadLad · 14/07/2024 10:45

Goldenbear · 14/07/2024 10:28

That is very interesting and I can see how that might play out but I personally do see Trump as old as he is a year older than my Dad who is very astute and physically fit but I don’t align that with the kind of strength a younger man or woman would have, if anything I thought will he back out now as I would imagine he is surely scared by what has happened.

I didn’t realise people don’t vote for policies as in ‘at all’ that seems quite foolish.

Trump, as you say, is indeed very old, but if he stays in the race, he will want to show strength relative to Biden, rather than relative to young men, who naturally will be fitter and more athletic.

I think people voting personalities rather than policies is more not uncommon. No doubt some Americans voted for Obama because he was black, and some refused to vote for him for the same reason. In 1992, Major's likeability over Kinnock was a, um, major factor in his winning the election. And according to this report of a YouGov poll, the actual policies weren't very high as a reason for the recent Labour victory.

'Astonishing' YouGov poll reveals the 'real' reasons behind people voting Labour (msn.com)

Looking statemanlike / stateswomanlike is essential for political success. For all his faults, Trump has come out of the shooting looking good.

No. But if your hotel had got torched or you were left to drown in the channel then my sympathy for your loss might be tempered somewhat.

Yeah, only the right sort of people deserve to live, right? I believe there was an entire movement about that in the 1900s. Unfortunately, it fell out of favour after WW2 for some reason. You should look it up, seems to align with your type of thinking. It began with E and rhymed with ‘bubenics’.

In Peril At End House by Agatha Christie a woman sets off a fake gunshot and nicks the top of her ear with a pair of scissors for maximum blood/drama/distraction. Just sayin.

That is the plot from A Murder Is Announced not Peril At End House.

Just saying? FFS

What a stupid comment. People with firearms training will know how to hit their target with precision and no one else.

Regardless of who did it and what with, one thing we can be sure of now is that the incident has sealed Trump's victory.

Why is it stupid ? When Kennedy was assassinated Senator Connelly in the car behind him was hit. If the sniper was above the crowd everyone around Trump was at risk.

Emmanuelll · 14/07/2024 10:49

Not when it comes to the USA it’s not. From what I remember of Obamas first election campaign, some voiced exactly those opinions. They didn’t care what he stood for either way. It was about race.

Eh? Are you implying that it was either fake blood or that Trump was able to whip out a pair of scissors and cut his own ear without anyone noticing??!!

Sorry, quoted wrong post.

You are part of the problem.

Some people like to listen to multiple perspectives before they make up their mind about something. It's a far more mature way of forming opinions than simply choosing which colour rosette you prefer.

I consume media with both a right and left wing bias in the hope of reaching an informed opinion.

What is so weird is how crap the security was.

I think that may be where the conspiracy theories have come from that it was a a staged event - that and Trumps’ behaviour after he was hit, fist bumping and waving to the crowd as they were trying to get him into the car. One bystander said he reported seeing the shooter crawling on a barn roof to one of the security detail but they didn’t seem interested.

And sadly that is exactly what appears to happened.

Perhaps it would have been a good idea to wait and see what was going on rather than prejudging a febrile situation. Watch the BBC video to the end and it confirms that at least one of the crowd behind Trump was hit and has died.

We all know this by now. It obviously wasn’t confirmed when people commented on it.
