Yes, just what I thought. Staged as hell.

That's quite some commitment to staging (edit - content warning - graphic):

Trump has always been pro violence when it suits him - eg 6 January riots - and indifferent/unsympathetic when it happens to someone else - eg Nancy Pelosi attack, school shootings. He has no empathy, no self-awareness.

The photo of him with fist raised, US flag prominent, is just the kind of thing I'd expect his publicity campaign to come up with.

BadLad · 14/07/2024 10:14

Goldenbear · 14/07/2024 09:59

Again, why? Why would someone who is voting for Democratic policies change their mind, why would an attempted assassination reframe Trump’s policies as something to vote for?

It's not really referring to Democrat voters. People who hate Trump won't vote for him. It's the floating, as yet undecided voters who might choose to vote for Trump after this. Shrugging off an assassination attempt, especially when he was actually bleeding, makes him look strong - physically and mentally. Compare the photo I showed earlier to the footage and photos recently of an ailing, aged, decrepit Biden who can't remember people's names, and you can see how the lucky bugger can turn this to his advantage. I don't think it's "in the bag" by any means, but it's good for him. Biden is trying to say the right things (unlike people on this thread) but nobody will remember that, whereas Trump can show actual photos of him surrounded by men in black and still pumping his fist at the crowd.

Not everybody votes for policies. Some just like or respect one candidate more than the other. The question is how many will vote for strength over apparent senility.

Are people still peddling this nonsense

Did you miss the death of a bystander

I do not believe this was staged

but someone dying does not mean that it wasn’t staged

wowzw · 14/07/2024 10:17

Lourdes12 · 14/07/2024 09:59

People saw the sniper and pointed him out to security service for a good couple of minutes but they did fuck all about it

this is where conspiracy theories are forming. Questioning why the secret service waited for him to shoot before they shot at him. How he was able to climb a building which overlooks the rally etc..

All very odd.

Yes, wtaf is going on? How are comments wishing that trump had been assassinated allowed to stand? And posts pushing complete misinformation like it was just "glass" and the whole thing was staged. Doesn't matter where you stand politically , assassinations of candidates, or attempted ones, are always wrong ffs. Shocking stuff really.

Always wrong? Successive US presidents would disagree.

The USA planned to assassinate Castro, the Prime Ministers of Congo, Domincan Republic, South Vietnam, Indonesia & the commander in chief of the Chilean ar

Trump tried to initiate the overthrowing of a democratically elected government in his own country ffs. It's shocking he's even allowed to stand let alone being given immunity from prosecution for the crimes he'll commit if he's re-elected.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 14/07/2024 10:21

How anyone who says they believe in democracy can justify this or make jokes is beyond me.

Whether you like his politics or not, whether you like him or not, the moment you try and make light of an assassination attempt you are essentially saying democracy only works when it's your choice in power.

As for Melania, it was always known that she wasn't going to be as involved as other First Ladies. I believe the first time she stayed in New York because of Baron and his schooling.

If someone shot his ear then someone behind him would have been seriously injured or killed by the bullet
What a load of shite.

Yes someone was killed.

TennisLady · 14/07/2024 10:27

Seriously, some people are vile. We should never be wanting/celebrating politicians being murdered in a democracy.

That is very interesting and I can see how that might play out but I personally do see Trump as old as he is a year older than my Dad who is very astute and physically fit but I don’t align that with the kind of strength a younger man or woman would have, if anything I thought will he back out now as I would imagine he is surely scared by what has happened.

I didn’t realise people don’t vote for policies as in ‘at all’ that seems quite foolish.

Tracker1234 · 14/07/2024 10:30

There are some people shockingly on this thread sending emojis to each other and others wishing the shooter had not missed.

You are a disgrace. Imagine if the person in the crowd who was killed was a relative of yours? They are being interviewed and sound stunned and shocked. They might not have the beliefs you have but that doesn’t matter.

I once went to see Farage speak years ago. You couldn’t get tickets and they had to put on another event. He was talking about our area being a garden town. I don’t vote for him but he had something to say and I wanted to listen to him. Would I deserve to have been shot if there was some nutter was in the crowd.

Calm down. The only person who clearly doesn't believe in respecting democracy is Trump.

You'd have to show me a casual link between jokes about a politician getting shot and politicians actually being shot for me to draw that conclusion.

Pretty sure that was a casual link.

No. But if your hotel had got torched or you were left to drown in the channel then my sympathy for your loss might be tempered somewhat.

StripedPiggy · 14/07/2024 10:36

I’m no fan of Donald Trump. If he was currently a cold mound of orange blubber on a mortuary slab I would shed no tears for him. And if he dies of natural causes next week, I would be delighted.

But violence cannot be how democratic societies choose their leaders. The correct response to political candidates you dislike who say things you disagree with must always be to vote for someone else and to argue for your own beliefs. Not to attempt to kill or harm your opponents.

I agree. Clearly nobody condones violence but Trump by his very nature stirs up unrest. He almost brought America to civil war when he was in office.

Unbelievable. MN has been allowing brainless, goady posts to stand for hours on this thread - celebrating this assassination attempt, pathetic conspiracy theories that it was a set up and saddos regretting that DT wasn’t killed.

But when I posted to tell a poster regretting the shooter missed that they are an ignorant arsehole inciting violence I get immediately deleted.

Excellent work @MNHQ. You really have let this thread become a bin fire.
