I can’t remember Sad

Does anyone else feel like the country/world/whatever has lost its sense of humour? I feel like everything used to be more of a laugh.

Just laughed out loud at something Reece Shearsmith said in an episode of Inside Number 9.

But the last time I laughed till I cried, I can't remember. I don't seem to have anyone who makes me laugh like that anymore.

Ineffable23 · 13/07/2024 23:18

I last had proper uncontrollable hysterics about 2 weeks ago. I was in a restaurant with my friend and we were both just absolutely crying with laughter, tears pouring down our cheeks. I actually can't even remember what we were laughing about.

I think I laugh a little every day.

Watching The Sky at Night on TV and making very puerile jokes about Uranus. E.g. Using a telescope to peer at Uranus. Dd and I completely lost it!

Ok that got me too. 🤣

I’m going to think of that when I go for my next smear.

About ten minutes ago at my husband acting a fool.

You ok OP? The world at large is a bit shite at the moment, but there's still a lot of fun and joy to be had in our own little worlds.

I’m ok thanks. I don’t mean that I don’t laugh at all - I do, just not in that belly aching way. But then neither does anybody around me, they all seem a bit humourless. Maybe it’s because we’re adults now.

Earlier today. My DP makes me laugh all the time. We both love dad jokes, and if I am feeling shite, he will bombard me with them.

Disturbia81 · 13/07/2024 23:29

I laugh all the time but belly laughing where I cry has got less. I did it a lot with my late dad and ex. It still happens but not often but when it does I drink in every last bit. It feels like I've had a whole body massage!

Disturbia81 · 13/07/2024 23:31

And it's always accidental stuff usually, not intentional humour.. like if someone farts in a quiet cinema etc 🤣

Oh yes, those situations where it would not be acceptable to laugh out loud are the best. Someone farting during an exam? Fucking hell... happened when I had an exam for a night school course. It was a proper ripper... they must have forced it out. Lots of sniggering, and someone said "better out than in", and everyone just lost it.

GalacticalFarce · 13/07/2024 23:36

Well my dh has definitely lost his humour. Probably quite a few years ago. Thankfully, my friends are a laugh and my kids make me laugh.
I laughed a lot tonight out for a meal with friends.

I don’t know why farts are funny. It’s ridiculous really.

ForGreyKoala · 13/07/2024 23:40

I laugh at something pretty much every day.

P4ULA · 13/07/2024 23:41

I lost it watching someone tee off at a golf course. The ball went off like a rocket at 45’ into the trees. I was crying laughing, I can’t wait to go back!

Dweetfidilove · 13/07/2024 23:56

I laugh most days. My mom, sister and best friend are my go to people when I need a good old cackle.

My last belly laugh was yesterday, on the phone with my mom. What was meant to be a quick call went on for 2 hours.

coffeepleeease · 14/07/2024 00:06

Proper belly laugh last week when partner and I attempting to unhook a lantern from inside the marquee while camping.
he was insisting I stand on his back (him on all fours) and try and reach up to unhook it.
couldn’t for the life of me get my balance it was like a scene from that ‘to me, to you’ kids show from the 90s. We were both hysterical. That kind of laugh has been a while

Catsmere · 14/07/2024 00:51

Yesterday at my knitting group. Hilarity all round, which is pretty much the norm.

DrMarcy · 14/07/2024 01:10

Last night. We were talking about a dad at DD's school a few years ago who goes around saying "Do you know who I am?" (Word gets around - on one occasion he parked on my mate's drive without asking and on another he was trying to pull someone about the same age as his eldest DD - somewhat gratifyingly she'd never heard of him 😂)
He used to do the whole faux modesty thing whilst at school events but it was obvious he was a knob.

Anyway that set DS off finding those Ronnie Pickering videos on YouTube, set to music with the Spice Girls crooning Whooooooo oooooo Do You THINK you are and Ronnie Pickering's voice spliced in. Lots of swearing .. We were crying laughing😃

Ivyrosecrayon · 14/07/2024 01:43

Yesterday.
But I'm quite immature and married to someone similar.. so..
We were taking it in turns to huff helium out of our sons deflating birthday balloon, then say serious things.. obviously with helium voice..
Was in hysterics for an hour.
Not v sensible as helium really bad for u..

Runnerinthenight · 14/07/2024 01:47

I laughed a lot during a drunken night with a very good friend last night. My adult kids make me laugh, and I also laugh a lot at the antics of my cats!

I'm never letting Dfriend pour the measures again!!!

theprincessthepea · 14/07/2024 01:47

My daughter and partner make me laugh daily. I laugh with my friends when I make time for them. I don’t use the news.

Speakeasy22 · 14/07/2024 09:58

Actually I had been thinking recently that when I joined Mumsnet about 4 years ago, there were lots of threads that I was really laughing at. Used to read out the best bits to DH. Don't see that now. Any recommendations for the funny ones?

NCNCNCNCNCNCNCNameChange · 14/07/2024 10:01

Yanbu, nothing on TV is funny anymore because everyone is so scared of offending. Comedy used to be fair game to insult anybody and everything, not sure when we got so soft that nobody could take a joke. It's sad!

Well, I’m 51, and everyone we had dinner with last night is around the same age, and there was a lot of laughter.
