I can’t remember Sad

Does anyone else feel like the country/world/whatever has lost its sense of humour? I feel like everything used to be more of a laugh.

What has made me laugh out loud recently is seeing these clips pop up on facebook reels, they are probably also on tik tok and YouTube of this guy in orange shorts in Central Park NY with some kind of fart machine and the camera picks up peoples reactions as he lets rip when he walks past them. Sad as that is as I’m mid 40s and finding this hilarious. My kids are like 🙄

I love that guy!

Shaketherombooga · 17/07/2024 20:54

You have to let yourself be open to positivity and the good things in life, take joy in the small things. Look around and find something to smile about.
it’s a mindset more than anything.
I started a thread a couple of days ago about a work thing and got absolutely piled on, I ended up telling the colleague I was talking about the thread and GENUINELY we laughed about it and the madness of people and the WEIRD fecking conclusions they come up with about people based on nowt.

Today when year 1 we’re being taught PSHE and one of the girls insisted that her brother (a year 6) has tentacles not testicles. I had to go and hide round the corner for a good laugh and left the teacher to it! I love small kids, they are so funny!!

little kids are THE best for comedy moments

Earlier this evening. Husband was making a juice for lo and pretended to tip the bottle over her. He'd forgotten to put the lid on properly so ended up covering her in juice. She was not amused ... I was !

Parkmybentley · 17/07/2024 21:52

I found out Google Maps lets you save places in a list

You can give an emoji to the list

So everywhere you save shows as that emoji on the map

I chose this one for a list for a trip I was obliged to take but didn't really want to take

🙄

For some reason, when I was planning the driving and zooming in and out of the map, the little cluster of eye roll emojis moving around made me lose my mind laughing so hard I couldn't breathe

I showed it to DH who was sat next to me on the sofa and he ROLLED HIS EYES AT ME LIKE THE EMOJI and that set me right off even more

By this point DC came over to find out what on earth mum was laughing about

I showed him

He also started laughing

DH's face was pure disdain

It was honestly the best fun I've had all week

Moments like that are so important in life, you have to fight for them because everyone seems so miserable all the time...

SallyWD · 17/07/2024 22:07

I'm not someone who frequently roars with laughter or cries with laughter. I'm more of a quiet chuckler. But I'd say I laugh many times a day. I'm lucky that me and my family, friends and colleagues all enjoy a laugh. I can also find humour in quite mundane situations.

SwordToFlamethrower · 17/07/2024 22:14

Every day, I have a great husband and dd! I make them laugh too.

Life got better when I stopped following the news

Proper belly laugh last week when partner and I attempting to unhook a lantern from inside the marquee while camping.
he was insisting I stand on his back (him on all fours) and try and reach up to unhook it.
couldn’t for the life of me get my balance it was like a scene from that ‘to me, to you’ kids show from the 90s. We were both hysterical. That kind of laugh has been a while

pinkspeakers · 17/07/2024 22:22

Proper uncontrollable laughing? Very very rarely since I was a child. I think I'm pretty happy, it's just not part of my personality to laugh like that.

YogaBro · 17/07/2024 22:27

The other day, when my son (accidentally) jump scared my friend, who screamed and threw his banana. We all found it very funny.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/07/2024 22:29

Last night. Finally started watching Inside No. 9. Hated League of Gentlemen years ago and wasn’t at all keen.

Nothing else on, though so finally gave it a go. The Witch Trial one. We lolled at least 4/5 times.

Prior to that, a couple of days before when our grandson made us howl (he usually does).

We’re quite jolly people. Usually laugh about something - often each other - several times each day but my husband is quite unwell atm so opportunities are a bit more limited.

Laughter really is the best medicine (notwithstanding antibiotics).

Noseyoldcow · 17/07/2024 22:32

Today. We laugh every day. Idiot senses of humour. A bit black at times. That's why I married him. Through 40 plus years of thick and thin we've laughed at and along with each other.

incandescentglow · 17/07/2024 22:35

today while driving with my friend, we saw a man running after his toddler (who was flying down the road) and the dad couldnt quite catch him enough to grab him so he just pushed him over into the grass to stop him running and it was such a funny sight it had us both in tears of laughter

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 17/07/2024 22:44

I'm generally a happy person and especially love being around the DGC who always make me laugh. However, DH and I have recently started going to our local comedy club with friends and we've had tears rolling down our faces, proper aching bellies 😀 A good laugh really lifts the spirits OP so I'd recommend watching comedy programmes etc

Just now . Watching the Going for an Indian sketch from The Fast Show.

Edited

Just thinking about the Fast show makes me laugh. Dh and I still reference it all the time. Now that I think of it it's one of the few things that connect us right now, that shared stupid humour.

Proper belly laughs are very rare but I do laugh a lot at work. I work with kids and the things we hear crack me up. They also stress me out no end so the comic relief is needed. Also my DS11 makes me laugh a lot, he loves a good Dad joke and in fairness to him he manages to remember them and weave them appropriately into conversation.

I’m ok thanks. I don’t mean that I don’t laugh at all - I do, just not in that belly aching way. But then neither does anybody around me, they all seem a bit humourless. Maybe it’s because we’re adults now.

To be honest I feel my friends are all a bit humourless too. We have nice chats but it's all about life or kids or whatever. I sound mean but I find that group to be increasingly dull. Not that I'm hilarious myself, but there is a fun energy lacking there. Most of my laughs come from elsewhere. We need to go out drinking together a bit more I think!

Lolatusernamesuggestions · 17/07/2024 22:55

I laughed today on my own like a dick head because I saw this meme. I laugh quite a lot. If I phone my mum we are usually in fits of giggles over something.
Edit. It's about stepping on Lego in case the meme didn't upload properly.

I laughed today at my son being very funny. I laugh loads, we love humour in this family.

TheHuntSyndicate · 17/07/2024 22:58

Every day.

MysteriousUsername · 17/07/2024 23:54

When I misheard my DS and was thoroughly confused - I thought he'd asked me who the great owl belonged to. When he waved the grey towel in my face I understood, and then laughed so much I couldn't tell him why I was laughing. He didn't find it particularly funny. I would say you had to be there, but he was! Grin

MysteriousUsername · 17/07/2024 23:55

Cant edit on app, but that was a couple of days ago.

LonelyInDville · 18/07/2024 01:26

i laugh every day but usually it feels fake or forced. Haven’t had a serious carefree laugh in over a decade.

stayathomer · 18/07/2024 01:35

Just realised the only time I really regularly laugh is at the tv- us office and modern family. Must get back playing board games with the kids more

edited to add: the people who laugh a lot with their dhes are so lucky. We used to laugh together a lot more
