To think that dogs shouldn't be in toilets?

I'm currently camping.

There's signs on the toilet / shower block door clearly indicating "No Dogs". Not small signs. Very obvious.

Went for a shower first thing this morning and a woman brought a dog into the toilet next to me. It poked its head under the gap and had a sniff. I just ignored it.

Took my daughter an hour later and whilst I'm waiting for her, another woman brings another dog in. This time, thinking maybe she has missed the sign, I said, very politely and calmly "Oh it's no dogs in here".

She immediately became defensive, saying there's no one else to look after him (there's a fence outside she could have tied him to) and that he would "cry" if left outside. Errm, so what? Dogs whine. It's not the end of the world.

AIBU to think that if the signs say "no dogs" then it means "no dogs" and not, "Well ok your dog can come in because it might whine if left alone for a minute"?

Do you expect people who dislike dogs in indoor public spaces, not to contribute to a thread about dogs in toilets? What a strange little comment about a klaxon.

Of course not, but there's a difference between disliking dogs and the hatred some people show. Not that I've ever come across it in real life, only from the keyboard warriors of MN.

Perhaps they were making the point that the dog is valuable and therefore more attractive to thieves?

That certainly wasn’t the tone. It was ‘I paid £1500 for that dog. No way am I leaving it (and losing my cash).’ They will probably deny it though.

That is because dog lovers tend to encounter other dog lovers in real life. They don’t notice the people who are moving away and who dislike dogs pawing at their belongings, nuzzling at their bags etc.

I do not hate dogs as it is not their fault. I very much dislike dog owners who don’t control them.

I detest dogs in small cafes. I hate it. Disgusting and ruins my experience. I have never complained or said anything to anyone as they are allowed in there. So you would probably think I had no issue with it ‘in real life’.

I wouldn't class myself as a dog lover, I'm more of a cat person.

To be fair I've never been bothered by a dog in a cafe, I actually sat in the dog friendly area last week as it was quieter. The only time I've been annoyed in a cafe is by kids who think I'm interested in them, not dogs who I would happily fuss!

I am currently calling the yapping dog somewhere in my street all sorts of names although I know it's the owners who are the problem 🙄

You’re all banging on about how important humans are yet you’d try and deny a woman a chance to go to the loo. Makes no sense to me. Piss yourself lady, the sign says no dogs.

If she were a solo camper, which I believe from other replies she is not, she should have checked before booking her holiday and booked a site that met her requirements.

Dog owners on here often say that dog friendly cafes/pubs/shops/etc have decided it’s best for their customers and their business if they allow dogs inside. That it’s up to the business owner; their business, their rules. And that’s fine, if that’s what the businesses want to do. It doesn’t meet our needs though and therefore we go somewhere else or, if alternatives can’t be found, we don’t go at all. You’d be up in arms if I marched into a dog friendly cafe and attempted to turf the dog owners out because that’s what suits me.

This works both ways and it seems some dog owners don’t like it when the shoe is on the other foot. This campsite, as do many others, (after a decade of twice yearly camping when I was younger, in my experience this is not a new thing at all) have decided dogs are not allowed in the toilets/showers. They’ve decided it’s best for their customers and their business if they don’t allow dogs inside. That’s up to the business owner, it’s their property, their business, their rules. Rules which are usually easily found on the website. If they don’t meet someone’s needs they should be booking somewhere else, not marching in with their dog anyway because that’s what suits them.

So in your mind, someone booking a self proclaimed "dog friendly" campsite should not assume that is in fact dog friendly, but should present the site with a list of every possible scenario and ask whether dogs are allowed there?
Or maybe campsites should not advertise as dog friendly if they aren't.

Oh FFS, not again. A ‘dog friendly’ place might mean many things. A dog friendly cafe is unlikely to welcome owners who allow dogs to fight, bark or shit on the floor or to permit owners to take dogs in the toilets, for god’s sake.

It’s not in my mind. It’s reality, dog friendly doesn’t mean it’s a free for all. There’s usually some rules. Two local nature reserves have dog friendly cafes and dogs are allowed in most parts of the site. But if you want to walk around the nature reserve, you’d have to leave your dog at home. They’re not allowed, not even on leads. Check before you go. And no need to present the campsite with a list, they’ve usually made a list of their own rules to easily find on their website.

Indeed I have! Love a group of grumpy phenomena!

What about people that are scared of dogs, or are allergic, what do they do ? Piss in the bushes, is that a good enough reason for you ?

Exactly! I’m frightened of dogs, as are my children (so in the case of a campsite I admittedly wouldn’t be on a dog friendly one to start off with), I am also allergic AND I don’t want to come out of a cubicle to find a dog sniffing my crotch! The entitlement of some owners on this thread is astounding. They don’t see a problem with it therefore there mustn’t be a problem 🙄
