To think that dogs shouldn't be in toilets?

I'm currently camping.

There's signs on the toilet / shower block door clearly indicating "No Dogs". Not small signs. Very obvious.

Went for a shower first thing this morning and a woman brought a dog into the toilet next to me. It poked its head under the gap and had a sniff. I just ignored it.

Took my daughter an hour later and whilst I'm waiting for her, another woman brings another dog in. This time, thinking maybe she has missed the sign, I said, very politely and calmly "Oh it's no dogs in here".

She immediately became defensive, saying there's no one else to look after him (there's a fence outside she could have tied him to) and that he would "cry" if left outside. Errm, so what? Dogs whine. It's not the end of the world.

AIBU to think that if the signs say "no dogs" then it means "no dogs" and not, "Well ok your dog can come in because it might whine if left alone for a minute"?

Poor lad, how does he keep them clean?

She licks them for him. That’s what dog lovers are like 🙄

I can see where this is going … It’s an excuse to take them into the campsite shower cubicle isn’t it

I've been to multiple campsites that have doggy showers.

Shell Island had on their fb page they were opening one this year.

What, 8 years ago? Have the dog owners changed beyond recognition in that time?

Probably not

Unhygienic animals, humans that is.

I try to avoid taking my dog into places like public loos, humans are walking healthy hazards, piss on floors, shit up walls. Nappies, sanitary products dumped on floors.

Campsites, I can put her in the car, or leave her with DH only once have I had to take her in, I had a stomach upset and knew I wouldn't get to the car and back..🙈

I have had to take my dog in the loo with me, because there is no way I would leave her tied up outside. It was a loo in a park, and said nothing about dogs not being allowed.

I am responsible though, and don't take her anywhere dogs are forbidden.

Lots of humans disobey signs, any kind of signs. As a dog owner, I'm disgusted by big turds left on pavements and poo bags hanging in trees, it gives responsible dog owners a bad name, a name that ignorant people give in a sweeping generalisation applied to the rest of owners. Some non-dog owners equally disobey signs, but I'm willing to accept that not all of them do, that's life. The only way to stop disobeyment of signs is to have people in authority stopping them, threat of a fine maybe, or CCTV, some sort of penalty. Lots of people disobey signs if their is no perceived negative outcome for them.
Getting into a cat and dog fight about it solves nothing.

Poo bags hanging in trees!!??? 😱

I get the turds on pavements but who would bag it up then hang it in a tree? It sounds like a nightmarish effluent version of the Willy Wonka factory.

I walked along a canal today, and at some point had a metal gate across it. Somehow hanging from it, was a poo bag. I still cant think how someone managed to get it there... they must have used a boat (or waded over... water level was 1m).

My mother in law goes alone and just can't leave the dog in the tent. She has to take him to the loo.

Why can't sh leave the dog in the tent for 5 mi Ute's while she goes to the loo or tie it up upside?

You cant leave a furbaby alone

Hi fellow camper. Can you hold my pooch while I pee?
Cheers mate.
Off you go about your day.

It’s bizarre.

A bit of me sympathises with not wanting to pick it up, but once you’ve bagged it surely you’d see it through to Complete Disposal.

Janiie · 13/07/2024 09:55

People steal dogs surely you must've heard about such things?

Again, I would not take my dog to a shop or a cafe but campsite toilets? I don't get the outrage, what is the problem??

Because some people are afraid of dogs and if a toilet or shower block.says no dogs they shouldn't have to deal with dogs. I.know someone with a dog phobia. Her life is hard enough because of it already without having to face dogs where they are explicitly not supposed to be.

caringcarer · 13/07/2024 23:24

LilBowWow · 13/07/2024 09:56

Non dog owners always go so ott with their responses. Inadequate, selfish, entitled and so on. Dog owners seem so much calmer and more rational. Coincidence?

I've got 2 dogs but I wouldn't want to see other people's dogs in a toilet or shower block. I'd never take my dogs where a specific sign said no dogs. I don't know why some people feel so entitled.

Julyshouldbesunny · 13/07/2024 23:55

Would those afraid of ddogs book a campsite that allowed ddogs in the first place??

Opentooffers · 14/07/2024 00:01

Entitled people can be dog owners or not. C'est la vie and were always like that before having a dog.

Opentooffers · 14/07/2024 00:04

I've been to many cafes, pubs and some shops with my dog. They get my business if it's dog friendly and he's with me at the time 😉
