To think that dogs shouldn't be in toilets?

LittlePearDrop · 13/07/2024 08:28

I'm currently camping.

There's signs on the toilet / shower block door clearly indicating "No Dogs". Not small signs. Very obvious.

Went for a shower first thing this morning and a woman brought a dog into the toilet next to me. It poked its head under the gap and had a sniff. I just ignored it.

Took my daughter an hour later and whilst I'm waiting for her, another woman brings another dog in. This time, thinking maybe she has missed the sign, I said, very politely and calmly "Oh it's no dogs in here".

She immediately became defensive, saying there's no one else to look after him (there's a fence outside she could have tied him to) and that he would "cry" if left outside. Errm, so what? Dogs whine. It's not the end of the world.

AIBU to think that if the signs say "no dogs" then it means "no dogs" and not, "Well ok your dog can come in because it might whine if left alone for a minute"?

I wouldn't leave mine tied up outside though. Not because anyone would steal him (I'd like to see them try) but in case anyone tried to pet him and he didn't like it. He is not entirely trustworthy .

Ah, now, this is interesting. If it was a cat peeping under the loo door would the OP have been so bothered? Because, in my experience, cats go wherever the fuck they like. I don’t let my dog poo in other people’s gardens…but nobody’s having a go at cat owners, are they?!😉

There are plenty of threads about people complaining about cats in their gardens.

If a sign said "no cats allowed" and an owner knowing brought their cat in on a lead, people would be annoyed about that too.

Aside from one early poster, pretty much every so called ‘dog hater’ on this thread has expressed no objection to dogs, they have responded to posters that feel entitled to ignore signs telling them not let their dogs onto camp site toilets and given various fanciful reasons to justify their entitlement.

Can you explain how my objection to people ignoring a sign makes me a dog hater, baring in mind that I have a dog and have owned dogs since childhood ?

My first post in respect of which you responded to me directly I don’t believe was made with you in mind.

As for your later posts… well I can’t really remember and it’s hard to go back now that MN has deleted several of them for breaching guidelines for appropriate comment. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You keep repeatedly referring to dog haters as a collective on here. Apart from one poster, no one else has objected to dogs they have objected to bad owners ignoring signs, why does that make people dog haters ?

Tutorpuzzle · 13/07/2024 17:31

@BlueGrackle @Greenlittecat
I stand corrected! I genuinely hadn’t seen any (I’m a bit of a weekends only person on MN) but I will be looking out for them now as I have a lot to say on the subject 😊

Didn't take long for the dog-obsessed to start drawing ridiculous comparison with children and people on planes. Humans and animals are not the same, you would have thought that was obvious but clearly not.

What it boils down to is that you have no right to inflict your animal on anyone else. Keep it to yourself. Keep it out of shared, public spaces like bathrooms. It is your JOB and responsibility as an owner to make sure that your animal has no impact on anyone else.

What a ridiculous, intolerant and depressing attitude. Imagine thinking that something you dislike should be kept out of all public spaces - and it's the dog owners who are entitled?!?

I don't especially enjoy sharing the road with cyclists or my workplace with Tory voters but I accept that they have a right to be there.

FinalCeleryScheme · 13/07/2024 17:44

I just can’t imagine owning an animal that you think you are entitled to take into the shower or loo.

I get that animals in your own home might wander into the bathroom or the dunny, but to actually choose to take one in? To a public WC or shower block? Bit weird TBH. I guess that’s just what dog lovers are like though.

chocolatemademefat · 13/07/2024 17:46

I don’t care where people take their dogs as long as they’re well behaved. So many dogs are stolen now that I wouldn’t want to tie one up outside for the length of time it would take me to shower.

As for dogs in eating places - a lot of them smell better than some of the customers.

WiddlinDiddlin · 13/07/2024 17:57

I wonder what sort of campsites and loos people are using where there are SO many dogs visiting it is such a huge issue?

I think in 20 years of owning dogs together, DP and I have only had to take a dog into a toilet a couple of times.

But out there in MN land, entitled dog owners are crowding into loos up and down the country, terrifying the phobic and triggering anaphylactic shock in the allergic...

As for the 'dogs aren't special'... agree to disagree there, my dog is significantly more special to me, than you are.

But that is by the by. I have a legal responsibility to my dog - to prevent suffering, to prevent him causing harm or reasonably causing someone fear of injury.

I will absolutely put that legal responsibility over and above the hypothetical needs of a stranger in a toilet. Every time.

But do you get so vitriolic?

I actually don’t love cats. I struggle with the dander ( makes me sneeze); but I’d never think of say someone was “ inadequate” for loving them .

I hope I dont! And no I dont think anyone is inadequate for loving a cat. I just hate the double standard.

I’m not sure that’s accurate. There was the memorable “ inadequate people” post, followed by another poster who explicitly agreed. There have been posts complaining about his they now are avoiding dog friendly cafes ( not disobeying signs if they are dog friendly surely); and reminiscences about when these places didn’t exist; and then people asking dog-lovers if they only love dogs because they have zero social skills and find dogs easier. None of that is limited to dog owners ignoring signs.

In any case, you need not worry: it’s not as if your dogs will be reading this.

I’m sorry but I kind of agree. Don’t take your dog to a campsite if you know that it is not allowed in certain areas and you’re unable to leave them. If everything you enjoy doing isn’t dog friendly then you need to change what you do or not get a dog!

People have become utterly ridiculous about dogs. Just tie the fucker up outside and let it whine for a few minutes.

Yes brother! Stupid bloody dogs everywhere

JackJarvisEsq · 13/07/2024 18:09

im as anti dog as you can get but I would have read the sign to mean “don’t wash your dog in the showers” and having them in view would be preferable to a howling dog or one vulnerable to theft

I predicted from the low quality of your posting that you would resort to that other internet forum cliche. Well done to me 👏😂

I swear some of the frothers take their dogs to bed with them. Why does a dog need to be in a pub or restaurant or toilet?

Agreed! Some owners act like their dogs are children and need to be with them constantly

I would rather this than dogs being allowed in cafes.

Not being allowed in cafes or in toilet blocks would suit me even better. 😬

I swear some of the frothers take their dogs to bed with them. Why does a dog need to be in a pub or restaurant or toilet?

Because we walk into town and call into a dog friendly pub with dog treats on the bar and he gets loads of fusses?

Because we go on holiday and take him with us?

Because we want to and he's allowed?
