To think that dogs shouldn't be in toilets?

LittlePearDrop · 13/07/2024 08:28

I'm currently camping.

There's signs on the toilet / shower block door clearly indicating "No Dogs". Not small signs. Very obvious.

Went for a shower first thing this morning and a woman brought a dog into the toilet next to me. It poked its head under the gap and had a sniff. I just ignored it.

Took my daughter an hour later and whilst I'm waiting for her, another woman brings another dog in. This time, thinking maybe she has missed the sign, I said, very politely and calmly "Oh it's no dogs in here".

She immediately became defensive, saying there's no one else to look after him (there's a fence outside she could have tied him to) and that he would "cry" if left outside. Errm, so what? Dogs whine. It's not the end of the world.

AIBU to think that if the signs say "no dogs" then it means "no dogs" and not, "Well ok your dog can come in because it might whine if left alone for a minute"?

This thread has some wonderful examples of why I prefer dogs to most people.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m sincerely hoping that the actual hatred shown to dog owners by a few posters on this thread does not reflect their lives in general and that they are ok.

It’s a little worrying tbh.

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/07/2024 16:48

My dogs are dogs, wouldn't take them on holiday too much stress for me and my dogs.

Newsenmum · 13/07/2024 16:50

This whole thing pisses me off. Little boys aren’t allowed in the toilet with their mums, but dogs can go into the toilet with an owner even when it says no dogs allowed 🙄

Really worrying.

The high security comment was so off - and you’ve got to wonder where that came from.

Really though? I adore my cats but no way would I expect everyone else to have to put up with them and treat them better than children!

People have become utterly ridiculous about dogs. Just tie the fucker up outside and let it whine for a few minutes.

This.

Some treat dogs like babies or children. I don't want them sniffing under the door

Why exactly are you on a thread defending the right for people to be shit inconsiderate dog owners, when you’re saying you don’t have one ?

parkrun500club · 13/07/2024 16:57

Not keen on them being taken into loos either. People don't generally go camping on their own so can they not leave the dog with someone else?

Might be different if you are out and about on your own with the dog and really need a wee!

But do you get so vitriolic?

I actually don’t love cats. I struggle with the dander ( makes me sneeze); but I’d never think of say someone was “ inadequate” for loving them .

Perhaps because they give decent dog owners that can follow basic instructions a bad name ?

Because family members do and I think the haters have an overly aggressive stance.

You have family members that ignore signs and do what they want?

I’d take a little boy in . It’s not safe if you are on your own with them . You have to be sensible about these things. Ensuring their safety is not entitled.

Opentooffers · 13/07/2024 17:02

I go solo camping, walking, voting with my dog and he sleeps with me when he wants to. I have never taken him in toilet/shower blocks. I have never failed to find an appropriate spot to park and chain him to. He can let out the odd whine when he's being a bit soft, but mostly he's a good boy and sits and waits nicely, or laps up others attention. Can't say I've ever seen anyone do it either, you must of just got unlucky at the time.

No I don’t. But not every dog owner ignores signs.

This kind of fake concern is one of the most cringeworthy things I read on forums online.

The strong views of dog-lovers and ‘dog-haters’ on this one specific issue, do not reflect the entirety of their lives or their mental health. You are not ‘sincerely hoping they are ok’ so enough of the disingenuous prattle!

Or alternatively don’t start yet another thread about dogs.

If people were less ridiculous and entitled about dogs, there would not be so many threads.

Even five years ago, people didn’t behave so selfishly and entitled like this with their dogs. And there were far fewer threads. See the link?

Pre-pandemic, people with and without dogs got on ok. Now many people with dogs have started to be selfish and entitled. I guess it’s gone this way with many people on various issues who think their right to do what they want, trumps others’ needs.

Ah, now, this is interesting. If it was a cat peeping under the loo door would the OP have been so bothered? Because, in my experience, cats go wherever the fuck they like. I don’t let my dog poo in other people’s gardens…but nobody’s having a go at cat owners, are they?!😉

BlueGrackle · 13/07/2024 17:15

Calliopespa · 13/07/2024 17:03

No I don’t. But not every dog owner ignores signs.

Aside from one early poster, pretty much every so called ‘dog hater’ on this thread has expressed no objection to dogs, they have responded to posters that feel entitled to ignore signs telling them not let their dogs onto camp site toilets and given various fanciful reasons to justify their entitlement.

Can you explain how my objection to people ignoring a sign makes me a dog hater, baring in mind that I have a dog and have owned dogs since childhood ?

Tutorpuzzle · 13/07/2024 17:16

@CyprusCypress

I do seem to have touched a nerve though, don’t I? Take care.

No. There’s only about 50 million threads a week about cat shit, sure you could fine at least one if you tried.

ThePure · 13/07/2024 17:19

It is a real issue when you are out on your own with the dog and need a wee. Happened to me today. I decided to just hold on. My other go to solution is to lock him in the car which I think is OK as long as it's only a few minutes. I would never take him in the toilets with me. It's never occurred to me to do that. He's a big dog and would alarm people, he's probably be scared of the driers plus there would not be room in the cubicle.

Mukirinessly · 13/07/2024 17:21

I took my dog into a public toilet with me once. Nothing bad happened.
