Guess what he thinks is wrong with me....

So met a guy online. Date 1 - very average but thought I'd give him time to come into himself. Date 2 boy did he come into himself.....

I'll tell you about me. Early 40s, reasonably fit but no gym bunny (size 10 - 5'1). Successful career wise, live in the centre of a popular historic city in a beautiful converted flat. No kids, 2 cats. Average undergraduate degree. Divorced 6 years.

Let's guess what this Prince amongst men (hes not. Really really not) thinks is the problem with me when incredibly drunk on date 2.

He’s perfectly entitled not to like short women, ftr I’m 5ft 2 and my last two partners have been over 6ft, I often attract tall men as many (not all) seem to like short women. but I’ve also dated men barely taller than me.

Height is no issue for me but the thing is even is even if it was I wouldn’t dream of telling a guy that maybe it’s his height keeping him single. In fact I wouldn’t sit there suggesting reasons why anyone is single on a date. What a weird conversation for him to start?!

He obviously just done that to cut you down to size (pun unintended) probably because he lacks confidence himself. It’s also hugely unattractive that he got so drunk on a first date. Again maybe another sign of lack of confidence!

I wasn't drag it out because its too ludicrous!
So far.... you're pretty much all right. It's all of the above!!!!

I'm too short, only thick people get a 2.2, it's hilarious that I have cats (the single cat lady stereotype is apparently side splitting funny) best of all - adults don't live in flats.

I'd have also met someone by now (which clearly is the priority) but I've prioritised my career. I think this is also why I don't have children but he was slurring quite a bit by then.

He can fix all these things for me. We'll, not the being short I think he's graciously going to accept that.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

What a prince.

I have just turned 40 and ready to start dating again. We are the same (a part from the cat). Your post has cheered me up- I hope I am as lucky as you to attract such a winner!

Reminds me of this

I assumed most childless adults lived in a flat!!

The only childless adults I know that live in a house are ones that are planning to have kids within the next few years.

Why have a house and garden to maintain, when you can just live in a flat.

When my DC move out, I am planning to get a flat with a little balcony.
I don’t want the stress of having to keep up with all of the maintenance of it all.

Dates like this are what put me off trying to OLD.

I’m sorry you had such a shit experience OP.

In case you had any doubts, this is definitely him and definitely not you.

Weird. Pretty much all of the childless adults I know live in houses. I imagine it's hard to sunbathe naked, throw garden parties, and have BBQs in the summer when you live in a flat. Plus gardens are better for dogs.

SocksAndTheCity · 12/07/2024 23:01

Everybody I know lives in a flat regardless of age, but I live in central London. People - incredibly - even raise children in them 😱

Then again I don't have a degree at all and am barely 5 foot 3, so I am no authority on anything 😁

nzborn · 12/07/2024 23:05

I'd love to know who paid on both dates.

biscuitandcake · 12/07/2024 23:15

SafeMouse · 12/07/2024 20:12

I only stayed as long as I did as being more and more insulted was weirdly compelling. But no I'm home now and he's already blocked!!!

You blocked him???
Yet another example of a woman being too fussy and having ridiculously high standards. No wonder you're single [shakes head sadly].

mildlydispeptic · 12/07/2024 23:22

You sound ace, OP. You're invited to come and hang out with me and my cats any time you get bored with dating.

TheCultureHusks · 12/07/2024 23:33

OP this is hilarious.

Do you think he’s prancing up and down his INTERIOR stairs as we speak, thinking ‘Oh that poor stubby-legged simpleton, she will never know this wonderful feeling’

Tombero · 12/07/2024 23:51

Please unblock him, just so we can hear more of his nuggets.

echt · 12/07/2024 23:55

Excellent thread, and well done OP for your poise and self-possession.

bonzaitree · 12/07/2024 23:57

well you found out what’s wrong with him. An arsehole who can’t hold his drink.

oakleaffy · 13/07/2024 02:19

The fact that he was drunk would have been a MASSIVE turn off for me.
Yuck...Drunk men are the pits.

SitBackAndRewind · 13/07/2024 03:04

Sounds like he felt intimidated. You don’t need a man, one may be just something nice to have, so he has to be something super special to get your attention.

Glad you’ve not taken the dickhead’s comments on board.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/07/2024 03:25

😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹
You sound fabulous!
Meow!

Fraaahnces · 13/07/2024 03:35

Imagine if you’d never been on that date… How would you know you were too tall and that living alone in a flat with cats was both juvenile and laughable? I mean, you had the benefit of his very valuable opinion and you were so ungracious you blocked the poor man? After he tried so hard to teach you how to get exactly what is missing from your life - him. This prince amongst men will surely be snapped up very quickly. I am positive he is only single because he CHOOSES to remain so.
Fuck me…. pass the bloody bear.

sashh · 13/07/2024 04:25

Catnipcupcakes · 12/07/2024 20:21

David Mitchell got a 2:2?

Just shows, its fine result then.

Carol Vorderman got a 3rd.

OP oh no how are you going to live, alone with a couple of cats? And in a flat?

JennyJenny8675309 · 13/07/2024 04:39

TeaGinandFags · 12/07/2024 20:18

The Cats!!!!

Don't block him.

Kill him.

Then give your cats a hug.

JennyJenny8675309 · 13/07/2024 04:47

Silly men, thinking their company is better than a cat’s.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/07/2024 05:13

The sad part, if I may, is that there are so many women who would take the comments on board and continue to date the guy... No one ever questions why the 40 year old guy is still single because, sigh, he just hasn't met the "one."

OP this is hilarious.

This made me laugh 😂😂

Stel83 · 13/07/2024 05:58

Just to give everyone hope. I also dated a few men on dating sites and it wasn't great at first at all. The second to last guy I dated nearly put me off dating for life!!!!!! But I gave it one last go and met my forever guy and we are getting married next year and I'm 41 and no kids but also no cats. I live in a house only because lease holds really scare me but I have friends who live in flats though the lease hold has doubled now and they are stressed or the cladding issue is stressing them out. But anyway I want to say that even though dating sites can be hard, there is still a chance to find your prince charming.

Strictlymad · 13/07/2024 06:15

i don’t think I’ve giggled so much at a thread since babs and the stolen allotment! So all flats are only occupied by children? You need to grow taller op - looool o think you can throw this one back!

iseegulls · 13/07/2024 06:17

SafeMouse · 12/07/2024 21:19

Told him I had to get home to feed the cats as I'd left them alone too long 😆😆 it amused me...

Perfect 🤣

YouJustDoYou · 13/07/2024 07:30

Ah, Negging.
