Guess what he thinks is wrong with me....

So met a guy online. Date 1 - very average but thought I'd give him time to come into himself. Date 2 boy did he come into himself.....

I'll tell you about me. Early 40s, reasonably fit but no gym bunny (size 10 - 5'1). Successful career wise, live in the centre of a popular historic city in a beautiful converted flat. No kids, 2 cats. Average undergraduate degree. Divorced 6 years.

Let's guess what this Prince amongst men (hes not. Really really not) thinks is the problem with me when incredibly drunk on date 2.

I think you went on a date with my ex.

Cannot believe I've made it so far into this thread and not one useful link. Here goes OP:

So he thinks you should have bought a house solo...WITHOUT a career?

Maybe this is that "negging" thing we hear about. I mean, seeing as he thinks he gets to see you again...

A 2:2 is significantly below average, sorry not sorry, though I’ll grant you firsts are a lot easier to get nowadays.

He’s found your thread OP. 😂

GhostSpider68 · 13/07/2024 21:48

Oh I dated this guy! Then he got on his high horse when I didn’t want that second date 😂

Highelf · 13/07/2024 21:52

Op have you considered wearing High heels for the next date?

Depends when you did your degree - in my days (1980s) the 2:2 was the norm - around 75% of the class. Around 20% got 1st/2:1. Then there was a handful of 3rds, pass degrees and fails.

Greenshed · 13/07/2024 21:56

Perhaps this has already been said, and so apologies if so (I’ve only read to page 4), but I would place an odds on bet that the little dear still lives with his mummy and daddy. Never mind, you’re well rid, anyway.

pollymere · 13/07/2024 21:59

Too short and you don't exercise enough - you should be a size 6-8 (btw just clarifying what I think he said before reading full post - not my opinion!)

masterblaster · 13/07/2024 21:59

SafeMouse · 13/07/2024 18:35

I cant believe I looked this up, but in my graduating year, 51% of people got a 1st or 2.1, leaving 49% getting a 2.2 or lower.
Not 'significantly below average' but as you were

If you got the “top” 2:2 you were average. The law of averages says you were most likely significantly below average.

Catsmere · 13/07/2024 22:03

We need pictures of Bubble and Squeak! It's breaking MN law if this doesn't turn into a proper cat thread!

Channellingsophistication · 13/07/2024 22:07

Well bubble and squeak clearly more interesting than that man. If adults dont live in flats who does (i love conversion flats)! What a moron of a man.

NOBODY CARES.

Apart from employers and self-important wankers.

Your comment about firsts is very telling!

Greenshed · 13/07/2024 22:10

What an unpleasantly snobby comment about class of degrees, masterblaster. Out of interest, what class of degree did you get? Oh, let me guess, first class honours, of course, with bells on to boot. Hope it’s helped you on to a first class career, where you can look down on lesser mortals with 2.2 degrees, or lower, (or mere mortals with firsts that are so easily dished out these days in your considered opinion), or perhaps, (heaven forbid), mortals with no degrees at all. 😲😲

Coco1379 · 13/07/2024 22:17

Self-important?

Starseeking · 13/07/2024 22:21

I'm guessing he said you're single because you're doing too well for yourself and real men don't like women who are like that Confused

CareerChange24 · 13/07/2024 22:28

@masterblaster Carol Vorderman got a 3rd in engineering. I think you’d agree. She’s far from average. I’m sure you have a first from a red brick in Maths 😅

Scentedjasmin · 13/07/2024 22:35

I think that was very kind of him to offer you a free personal dating consultation. I do think that the very least that you can do is reciprocate his generosity.

I would start with his height. It doesn't matter if he's 6ft 3, you like your men to be taller! That will really irk him for starters. Perhaps also mention that you would like someone who lives in a flat (or a bungalow), as it shows maturity in planning for the future. He's clearly not as grown up and forward thinking as you are! Then obviously conclude that, having spoken at length with your cats, and his possible alcohol dependency, they have advised you not to proceed futher.

TheHateIsNotGood · 13/07/2024 22:37

I was actually going to suggest your 'nose' as I was trying to think of an odd reason.

Not only was I incorrect but it seems what's wrong with the OP is just more of the same shit spouted and believed by men for centuries and so very unsurprising.

Wierd but true - I welcome the day when the only shitty-arsed criticism a man could muster is my fucking nose.

Scentedjasmin · 13/07/2024 22:40

Also, I think that this is the sort of thread that requires an annotated diagram of the rare specimen! Just so us ladies can be wowed by his magnificence.

My first class degree from Durham, a “top” uni, in a subject that’s considered on the “better” side. Got me into a job on 30k. I have friends with no degree on much more money. Snobbery = stupidity and naivety.

What's with the flat thing though? That's the most strangely insulting! Adults don't live in flats????

It is meaningless. Only adults live in flats. Children can’t.Do not ponder this anymore. He is a very insecure man who felt threatened by you. It’s sad there are such people in the world. I’m glad you got away.

DisabledDemon · 13/07/2024 23:04

I'd have replied that the only thing that was wrong with me was that I was wasting my time with him. Life is too short to indulge half-wits!
