Schoolgirls spiked my daughter’s drink with laxatives.

This is more of a WWYD I guess.

My daughter has been bullied recently at school, some physical, some verbal and this week the bullies poured laxatives into her water bottle at lunchtime and I had to leave work to collect her.

I’ve not heard anything more from the school or the parents and the children are still in school.

I’m interested to hear what you think and what you would do in this situation as this is not acceptable.

Your poor DD, I'm so sorry this happened to her. What action has the school taken?

we had a meeting and I was assured they would let me know last week, so far nothing.

Police. It’s ABH. If the school haven’t acted report this to the police also. Whoever is responsible needs to have the living shit scared out of them.

Doltontweedle · 12/07/2024 17:28

I would 100% honestly file a police report for assault. How old are they?

Op I say this as a Social Worker.

RING THE POLICE

Biglovemarg · 12/07/2024 19:30

Police 100%. That's fucking awful. Your poor daughter. I hope you're all okay.

Definitely "old enough to know better."
Police.

Have they got this on CCTV?

No, unfortunately it was done on school grounds but away from the buildings.

Agree with the other posters re police. Clearly part of a broader and escalating campaign that is likely very traumatising for your DD. I hope she is okay. My daughter has just left a school having had a campaign like this sustained over a couple of years. You have to call it out and potentially maybe even look into moving her ( not an easy option I know), as it will pick up again in September.

Zoraflora · 12/07/2024 19:32

This is absolutely horrendous, your poor daughter must be very upset. I hope she is ok.

I would contact the police and would also arrange a meeting with the school to see how they plan on dealing with the culprits.

They really need to know how serious this is and the consequences of their bullying.

How old is your daughter?

There is a huge difference between some kids saying they put laxatives in the water that the child had just drunk and some kids putting laxatives in the water and forcing the child to drink it. The first would not be a police matter and best dealt with by the school and the latter would be a police matter.

Without more information we have no idea what went on. The school pick up could be because the child was upset by kids being verbally nasty or it could be because the child was shitting everywhere and in immediate need of medical care because of a laxative allergy. The former not a police matter. The latter certainly a police matter.

In both cases a school matter.

It’s ABH. Regardless of when they did it or whether they forced the child to drink it. OP says the kids were reported and found with the empty packs on them. And if a laxative allergy there could be more serious charges in the pipeline because it’s reckless endangerment.

This is appalling. Please call the police.

RegimentalSturgeon · 12/07/2024 17:51

Did they have clear, tasteless liquid laxatives? Otherwise surely your daughter would have noticed something.

Movical - add water to powder and let it dissolve. I have to take it and I add it to a kelkin orange Vit C drink. It’s tasteless when added to another drink.

I’m not in UK
It's prescription only here which I think makes it even more serious.

OP I’m disgusted that the school haven’t done something.

I would report to police and ring up a local radio talk show to discuss and warn people as these things can trend.

This would have the added benefit of forcing the school to take serious action.

Meleys · 12/07/2024 19:35

If I was 100% sure of the facts I'd go absolutely nuclear... Police, school, everything I could think of.

Jumpingthruhoops · 12/07/2024 19:36

Puffinfoot · 12/07/2024 19:14

Well we don't actually know that what happened as OP hasn't been back to answer any questions regarding what actually happened.

She has actually:

They took her bottle and pour dissolvable laxatives in it and made her drink it in front of them.

So, based on that, 100% police.

Meleys · 12/07/2024 19:36

Have you chased the school up op?

Toptotoe · 12/07/2024 19:37

Report this to the Police

Administering a noxious substance - sec24 Offences against Person Act 1861

Common examples of poisonous substances would include arsenic, mercury, bleach, anthrax and carbon monoxide. There is a substantially wider scope for a substance to be considered as noxious, and this can include slimming pills, 'date rape drugs' such as rohypnol and laxatives.

Halfordscarpark · 12/07/2024 19:37

Booksandflowers · 12/07/2024 17:29

Oh my god. What if she’d been allergic or had a terrible reaction? (Other than the obvious which is bad enough!) That could have been so dangerous. I would be escalating and taking to the police as another poster has mentioned.

This is what I keep thinking, or what if she’d had an accident in school? I just don’t want anyone else to suffer at their hands.

OP posts:
violetcuriosity · 12/07/2024 19:38

I'm SLT, if I was you I would-

  • lodge a complaint with the police
  • contact the school to inform them that this is the action you have taken due to the lack of communication from them
  • ask them in writing for a copy of their bullying policy and how they are actioning all relevant points
  • ask them for the details in writing of the investigation they are carrying out and the actions already taken against the perpetrators
  • ask them for next steps in writing for how they are planning to support your daughter in her return to school
  • ask them how they are going to ensure your daughter never experiences a life endangering event at the hands of bullies in their care again

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My blood boiled thinking of what you're going through with no communication from the school. If this had happened at my school (unlikely but you never know) I would have been to visit your daughter at home xxx

Lewiscapaldiscat · 12/07/2024 19:38

I would expect a resolution or at least an update within 48 hours of the incident. There should have been a phone call by now. I would email the head, head of year and safeguarding lead and be clear you haven’t had an update and are they aware of the serious nature of this?

Geiyotue · 12/07/2024 19:39

Police. It's assault. I would be going fully nuclear on this and would want them charged and in court. I would also want them expelled from the school.

The school should be doing this without you needing to tell them!

Then they are of an age when they’re old enough to know better and may face criminal charges. This is not a prank. This is malicious and without regard to any allergies your DD may have. As another poster said, it could be reckless endangerment. Scare the crap out of them OP. Call the police and ensure that they don’t pull this crap on anyone else.

violetcuriosity · 12/07/2024 19:40

Thinking about it I would CC the governors into these messages too.

blameitonthesunshine · 12/07/2024 19:41

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that your daughter went through this. This needs to go straight to the police. I can't believe the school haven't contacted you to follow this up. Has she been in school since it happened?

lilyathena · 12/07/2024 19:41

Since you know the school found evidence ie 'they were reported and found with packets on them' I would immediately report to the police. As others have said, if this happened in an adult workplace, it would be dealt with as a criminal matter. Your daughter needs safeguarding and protection, by you, immediately. She needs to know she is safe and protected otherwise the impact on her future mental health and education will be compromised. It's shocking. What a spiteful thing to happen; these girls need to know this is extremely serious. If the school haven't recognised that and supported her and you immediately, keeping you informed, they are incompetent. It definitely needs escalating. I'm sorry to hear your family are in this situation.
