Schoolgirls spiked my daughter’s drink with laxatives.

This is more of a WWYD I guess.

My daughter has been bullied recently at school, some physical, some verbal and this week the bullies poured laxatives into her water bottle at lunchtime and I had to leave work to collect her.

I’ve not heard anything more from the school or the parents and the children are still in school.

I’m interested to hear what you think and what you would do in this situation as this is not acceptable.

Great job, OP. The school may do more now that police are involved

Itisawaitinggame · 14/07/2024 20:48

Well done OP. Hope your DD is ok.

BarryCantSwim · 14/07/2024 20:58

Very pleased to hear the police’s initial response which shows you did the right thing.

DollieBantrysPantry · 14/07/2024 21:03

@Halfordscarpark well done for contacting the police, really hope your daughter is ok and the bullying stops

MeridianB · 14/07/2024 22:00

Glad the police are taking it seriously. Perhaps the school will now, too. Engage the oarents of the other bullied children. Your voices should be heard over and above those of the bullies. Don’t back down. 💪

Allthehorsesintheworld · 14/07/2024 23:54

Good the police are taking it seriously and hopefully these bullies will get the shock they deserve. Hopefully it will put a stop to them.

JFDIYOLO · 15/07/2024 01:03

Great to know the police have taken it seriously. It is absolutely assault.

All the best for dealing with the school.

Don't let them fob you off or expect you to be satisfied with them being basically given a day off.

The parents must be involved, too.

When another PP said it had happened to her son, also aged 13, I wondered if it was a thing, so I googled 'prank laxative' and OMG it really is a thing. Thriving trade. 😮

It's been around for years, often accompanied by a locked toilet door or cling film over the bowl.

OP I'm glad you went to the police. I have a feeling the police might issue a caution as it gives them 'clean up' figures with little effort. THe girls' have to admit what they did.

I know that sounds negative but they can attach conditions to the caution such as not approaching your daughter, if they break the conditions then they can be taken to court.

Cautions appear on DBS checks so it can impact their future, in my opinion this is no bad thing. Normally I'm not in favour of cautions for children but in this case I think it is the minimum you should expect.

anyolddinosaur · 15/07/2024 08:50

If other parents sent you texts then please give those to the police.

A single days exclusion is woefully inadequate. It should be a minimum of 3 days for assault and I'd regard 5 days for assault causing actual bodily harm as the least that should not generate a complaint to the governors. Any repetition of the bullying should be permanent exclusion - and both children and parents should have that made very clear. A headteacher can exclude for up to 45 days before permanent exclusion and it does not have to be continuous - so the bullies parents should be told that having investigated the suspension is being extended. It is near the end of the school year, the exclusion could be for the rest of the school year or they could exclude from the second week of next term - second week so it isnt just good for the parents taking the children away and so that work can be set for them, as is legally required for the first 5 days.

If other parents are prepared to step up and complain to the school then they should have additional suspension for those complaints.

I'm glad the police seem to be taking it more seriously than the school. What an horrific thing to happen to your poor daughter. Let the school know that you've involved the police, it might encourage them to get their asses in gear and actually address the obviously serious and ongoing problem.

Rosebud21 · 15/07/2024 10:39

What has happened to your daughter is disgusting & vicious. Well done on informing the police.

Apologies if you've already done this, please contact the school designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).

Mamasperspective · 15/07/2024 10:51

Definitely a police matter. Report it immediately or it will escalate

Not sure why you think the LADO should be informed?

The school have not responded, & are not following recommendations for situations such as described. Reading again, members of the public can't refer directly to LADO. Hopefully now the police are involved the correct actions will be taken

Yes. I recall my late husband talking of a case at the junior high school where he worked (Scotland) in the '70s. I recall that the culprit in that case was made to do the laundry.

ETA Police were not involved. One culprit and one victim. I think it involved Ex-Lax chocolate.

Orangewinegum8481 · 15/07/2024 16:28

Why the hell are people asking how she knows it was laxatives? I thought that would be pretty obvious

T1Dmama · 15/07/2024 17:49

ONE day suspension!! That’s a bloody joke!!
I really do hope these girls get a visit from the police and their parents are the sort who will come down hard on their nasty vicious behaviour!
I’d chase up with school and say a day suspension is awful.. the punishment doesn’t reflect the crime here!!

BarryCantSwim · 15/07/2024 18:54

When was this school last Ofsted inspected?

Was just thinking this, I'd be onto Ofsted immediately about it.

Debs2024 · 15/07/2024 20:01

Are you implying that those that oppose somebody being assaulted are holier-than-thou?

She most certainly was “assaulted”, twinkletoes.

I really hope you don’t have children - I dread to think how low you set the bar for behaviour. Or has this thread touched a nerve because you were a bully playing similar hilarious pranks in school?

And it wasn’t my daughter… are you pissed?
