Late School Start Monday

Primary School has announced that pupils do not have to be in school on Monday until 10am on Monday due to the football. (However it is open from normal time)

DH believes this is not good, a d setting a bad example

I thinkbthe school is being pragmatic and trying to keep their Stats up... because children will be up late so will be tired and grumpy on Monday morning... so more kate marks and more absences.

However... there has been several occasions where there have been school trips getting back at 10pm... and they were expected in at normal time the next day.

So... is the school being fair here?

(We aren't football fans, but we know people are excited!)

YABU... its a big event, the late start is justified
YANBU... children should be in school at normal time

10pm isn't that late for primary aged kids.

It's 2-3 hours past bedtime for most of ours.
Infact, normally, the majority of our pupils would be in bed by kickoff.
But we also have some huge football fans in our year 2s and there is no way they'd not be watching tomorrow night!

Noone anyway on this thread has said it is the most important thing.

You do you. Let others do them. You seem to be unnaturally obsessed with something that isn't important at all in the grand scheme of school or life.

Society treats it as the most important thing. Schools are validating that.

I am not as unnaturally obsessed as the fans 😂

So much pandering to the football fans. My kids aren't interested in football. Can they bank a morning off for after a world netball final?

Seeing as the last one was at 5 pm, it wouldn't have been a problem in the same way.

What time is it this year?

massive none issue. If you want them in at 9am you can. The difference with school trips getting home late the night before is I doubt this is the whole school

Some very miserable people on here, just because you’re not football fans doesn’t mean you should wish to deny others fun.

Its a rare event to see the England football team in a final.

This was on the bottom of an email from our school, I was pleased to read this and agree that it’s a good learning opportunity

Don't they mean 'men's football team'? Important learning opportunity there, too.

Although, as I said, it's more a pragmatic attempt to not have next week's attendance data any more abysmal than it will be already.

Some schools issue detentions on the day for kids turning up more than say 10 minutes late in an effort to improve punctuality.

It may be that done schools are recognising that some pupils are going to skip entirely due to being up late ( and those allowing them to ) or that their late detention system may otherwise not cope tomorrow otherwise.

The issue did arise in 2021, when the England men made the similarly timed final. There were people complaining on here then about schools taking a pragmatic approach, too.

So it's not a one off. But nor is a sensible acknowledgment of reality once in three years at the tail end of term a big deal either. People get overblown about it.

That must have been what I was thinking of, I thought it was the womens' euros in 2022.

Guessing most people on here are not observant Christians. Should we cancel Easter and Christmas holidays as well as thats ‘not your thing’?

Football isn’t particularly mine either. Nothing like this has been communicated to me from school.

Find it hard to get worked up about tbh and sounds like MN frothing at the mouth over a non-issue.
