To be really, genuinely annoyed we have to go through menopause

Honestly it's hard not to suspect that nature hates women - I feel like a second class member of the species

I hate the constant anxiety in my life now, hate that the choice to have a baby is probably gone, hate that no one respects older women (I always did!! I knew this would come for me eventually!), hate how long it takes to be "ready" for sex now

Why isn't this cured yet? If men had menopause it would be.

@Tootsey11 I was taught decades ago never to assume and precision of language is always helpful.

There are remedies, not least of which is a thoughtful lover who is considerate both emotionally and physically.

BlackStrayCat · 11/07/2024 20:22

Tootsey11 · 11/07/2024 20:15

@BlackStrayCat not always easily treatable. It can take time, and getting treatment can be difficult through NHS.

Sorry, yes, you are right. I live in Spain and can buy the medication if and whenever I need it (I dont yet) but intend to keep my neather regions healthy so have researched it fully. Many, many of my friends have it and it is affecting their marriages.

Honestly, it is painful for my friend to go to the loo. Sex is out of the question. Nothing to do with her DH!!

This is a very odd thread.

Tootsey11 · 11/07/2024 20:30

Of course, I agree. What I'm trying to get across on here is that can and does happen. But we as women aren't told about. Doctors tell you about dryness, but that's it. They think it's just dry skin. They minimise the effect it can have on your daily life. Trust me I'm dealing with it and still relatively young in peri. There is women getting this in their late thirties right through til their late eighties. Lots won't talk about it, pretend it's not happening, some in complete denial. As for percentages, they don't have exact numbers because as I said lots will not seek help. You call it a remedy, you can fix it to a certain extent but trust me, things are never the same again.

Indianajet · 11/07/2024 20:31

OP, exactly who are you angry with? You sound so desperately unhappy with life and unable to believe any older women can be happy. I am sadly a widow, but until my husband died at 70 (I was 68) we still had a very loving relationship, despite the menopause. Two years on, I still miss him (,and always will) but can still find things to be happy about - life is still worth having even as we age!

Tootsey11 · 11/07/2024 20:33

Finally @BlackStrayCat , someone who gets it.

Sadly some on here just don't want to hear any different because 'they're fine'.

100% with you. It is important everyone is aware and "lubrication" just does not cut it.

Some posters seem irritated, but forewarned is forearmed IMO.
Louise Newson is always talking about it.

BlackStrayCat · 11/07/2024 20:37

It was even on "Lorraine" this week FGS!

Good for you but I do not agree with any of it.

I can get behind 2 and 10...the rest is bollocks

BlackStrayCat · 11/07/2024 20:53

😂It just irritated me so much "have that extra slice of cake" WTF?

Menopause and after has been the best time of my life. I love being an older woman. No one disrespects me. Why would they?

Me too. I love not having periods and not giving a fuck about other people's opinion of me. I also love HRT.

Iwasafool · 11/07/2024 21:05

BIossomtoes · 11/07/2024 19:49

Exactly. My oestrogen levels have been suboptimal for over 20 years

And mine for 30 years. Family trait as my mother and grandmother were the same.

No you don't get it, we know some people have problems but not everyone as you stated. You can't admit you were wrong can you.

Depends on your doctor, my GP gave me a prescription for oestrogen cream when I had my hysterectomy just in case I needed it and he didn't just mention dryness. I guess it's gone out of date by now. You seem to have a problem with doctors as well as the menopause.

I hate the fact that my mind will frequently play me an embarrassing flash back from the past, and I will visibly cringe. Like, why? I don’t need to be reminded of these things that happened 40 years ago!
And why does my mind have me waking up worrying about things that will probably never happen, or going back over conversations I’ve had, wondering if that person thinks I’m mad/wrong.

I've always had that actually but yeah I seem to dwell on stuff from the past a lot but probably always did.

brewmetea · 11/07/2024 21:16

OP go on HRT and work with the type and dose till you feel better, I felt like crap too before I went on it, I also aged backwards on it and I started at your age.

That's hilarious. Precision of language is always helpful when you posted "Wait for the joys of atrophy. It's hits all women at some point." Then you tell us it is over 80% then 87% then they don't have precise numbers. Come on where's the precision?

I think you sound bitter that you are having a tough time and some of us aren't, you sound like you are wishing for people to be struggling. Not nice.

henlake7 · 11/07/2024 21:20

YANBU. Menopause sucks and the research into it is outdated and sparse. Certainly there is not enough education for Drs IMO given that half the population goes through it.

Having said that perimenopause was the best thing that happened to me!!LOL
Thanks to developing an entirely new personality during it (one without mood swings, severe depression and binge eating disorder) I realiesed that I had had PMDD my entire life! Taking HRT for joint pain and insomnia but I honestly feel like Ive been given really good drugs and am now a happy. stable person.

Even so I was unaware of how many symptoms could be menopause related and didnt even know PMDD was a thing until recently. It honestly does feel like its still Victorian times and we should just 'get on with things' and keep quiet about all those icky female issues!🙄

RosesAndHellebores · 11/07/2024 21:25

Sorry was that fkr me @Iwasafool?

HungryLittleCrocodile · 11/07/2024 21:28

Tootsey11 · 11/07/2024 20:11

@HungryLittleCrocodile well that question just says it all!

Here we are talking about the MENOPAUSE, and I'm responding about atrophy, and you're asking atrophy of what. Your VAGINA. It just proves you haven't a clue what you are talking about and have no real idea what can happen to you as a woman.

As for the menopause in general, mine has been fine other that atrophy. But try helping some of you.

@Tootsey11

I didn't ask that. That was another poster! (Rosesandhelloores.) at 20.03. In your rush to attack me, you have responded to - and ATTACKED - the wrong poster. Oh dear. How embarrassing for you! Blush

I will accept your apology - as that is the kind of person I am. Smile

I have a strong feeling you won't apologise to me though. People who always have to be RIGHT, never admit when they are in the wrong, (and never apologise when they're in the wrong.) Wink
