How long did it take?

this will be my third, I’m out from my 2nd ttc cycle and I’m worried it might not happen.

i track my cycle, use opk and temp. Any other tips?
my first took close to 9 months which I know is normal (partner and I were late 20s) second complete surprise (early 30s). Dh had ‘variable sperm parameters’

was 35. First month didn't take. Second month chemical. third month success (currently 36 weeks). however, this was also with severe male factor infertility

Subfusc · 10/07/2024 09:48

I had just turned 39 and I conceived the first month. In which we only had sex twice because I was working in another country. Was very taken aback.

Cluborange666 · 10/07/2024 09:49

9 months for me to conceive at 38. I remember crying because I wasn’t pregnant then the finding out that the extreme crying was because I was actually pregnant! Good luck 🤞

motheroreily · 10/07/2024 09:49

I was 40 when we started and 41 when we conceived. It took 7 cycles.

ShikShakShok · 10/07/2024 09:49

33 when I conceived my first and 35 when I conceived my second.

First happened first cycle. Second took 6 months but really for 4 months of those we didn’t have sex when I was ovulating.

AngeloMysterioso · 10/07/2024 09:49

DC1 conceived when I was 33, took 5 months. Conceived DC2 when I was 35, took 8 months of properly trying. DC3 was conceived when I was 37- total fluke, we weren’t trying at all and in fact only DTD once that month, a week before I was due to ovulate!

Hereforthesandwiches · 10/07/2024 09:50

First baby delivered at 34. Second took 7 years - had her at 42. No explanation for this particularly, although I know I had some adenomyosis. All other tests normal. Just advancing age.

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/07/2024 09:51

Took one cycle at 39, I was temping and using preseed and dtd most days.

Softycatchymonkeys · 10/07/2024 09:51

Conceived at 38 (3rd month) 39 (1st month) and 41 (1st month)

Darkdiamond · 10/07/2024 09:54

Conceived third baby at 38, 2nd month of trying. My first baby (age 32) took a year, second baby 1 month. I didn't know what to expect. I took Co-enzyme Q10 as I thought my cycles were a bit off but don't think it was necessary.

WiseBiscuit · 10/07/2024 09:55

First and only conceived at 40, about 9 months of very infrequent sex. No temp/charting/ovulation testing. I think it would‘ve been less if we’d been able to have more sex (we weren’t in the same place much that year due to a house build).

Wrapunzel · 10/07/2024 09:56

Second month age 37 and first month age 38.5

BlackeyedSusan · 10/07/2024 09:56

First time three times. Two viable pregnancies.

bunnypenny · 10/07/2024 09:58

Conceived at 39 (first month), 41 (first month) and 42 (unexpected as had sex once that month). I did no temping or charting for any of them.

They’re now 5,4 and 2.

bellinisurge · 10/07/2024 09:58

2 cycles. Before we started I went on a massive health kick for about a year. No alcohol. Loads of fruit and veg. And randomly remember eating a lot of walnuts.
Large healthy baby (my first and only) born when I was 41.

Afterwards my health absolutely nosedived but that was due mostly to horrendously poor maternity and postpartum care. Would have been better off cared for in a ditch by wolves.

LemonDropsXx · 10/07/2024 10:00

1st month aged 37 and 2nd month aged 39. Think we've just been incredibly lucky x

Exactly the same, aged 36 and 38

Conkersinautumn · 10/07/2024 10:00

I had my 3rd at 40. I had three losses after 36, though pregnancy 1 / 2 of that were relatively quick (3 cycles then very quickly after mc1, first cycle) then a break i took. Then there was then a full18 months of no pregnancies at all, despite trying. 3rd I didn't realise I was pregnant as I'd stopped tracking and was deciding on a date to stop trying, got a referral over to specialist in Coventry. Another 3 months Then just before that cut off (40th birthday) I found I was pregnant. That one stuck.

I don't want to put you off at all, but I had gone from.super easy pregnancies at 30 and 32 to something a lot less straightforward. But that 3rd pregnancy, despite my fears following losses was a breeze, I felt healthy and well. Unfortunately the risk of longer attempts and losses are increased but by no means impossible. Best wishes x

SamW98 · 10/07/2024 10:00

Tried for a year without success then has a Laparoscopy and conceived 2 months later. Sadly miscarried at 12 weeks and fell pregnant again 2 months later with my DS - I was 36

SnapdragonToadflax · 10/07/2024 10:02

Four months at 36. Think I had a chemical the month before.

Most of my friends conceived at least second babies, if not first, after 35, without too much trouble. I know a few people with infertility or secondary infertility, but they likely would have struggled to conceive whenever they started trying.

Congratulations beautiful! Did your DP do anything in particular? I’m ovulating and I had an Amh test done in my late 20s that showed high ovarian reserve, so it’s dh sperm I’m a bit worried about.

I’ve started worrying we just fluked it with our first two x

Oh, trying wise we found every other day during the fertile 'window', starting the day before was definitely more effective - just not always feasible with working away/ nights etc

This does worry me, I feel like I got too lucky with my first 2. I almost feel undeserving.

how old were you when you started ttc for your 3rd?

Conceived the first month of trying just before turning 37.

No real tips except to say that I think it can sometimes be counter productive to try and rely too much on predicting ovulation and fertile windows - I think the most reliable method is just to have sex every couple of days throughout the month and not focus too much on hitting a target.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 10/07/2024 10:07

4 months aged 35 DD1
1 month aged 38 DD2
