posting for traffic

How long did it take?

this will be my third, I’m out from my 2nd ttc cycle and I’m worried it might not happen.

i track my cycle, use opk and temp. Any other tips?
my first took close to 9 months which I know is normal (partner and I were late 20s) second complete surprise (early 30s). Dh had ‘variable sperm parameters’

35 when conceived, first time trying. Good luck 🤞

Maray1967 · 10/07/2024 13:45

PS on tracking ovulation - I was advised to use the messy method as it tells you when ovulation is imminent rather than when you’ve already ovulated. This involves using your fingers and scooping out some vaginal mucus and looking carefully at it. When it turns more translucent rather than milky white and you can stretch it between your fingers you will ovulate in the next day or two. Worked great for me - managed to conceive every 4/5 months rather than once in 3 years - the mcs accounted for three but it worked in the end.

Penguinfeet24 · 10/07/2024 13:48

18 months but I think that was because my partner was taking Sertraline at the time and it can affect male fertility. He had stopped it and about a month or two later I was pregnant at age 36. Then I became pregnant again when the youngest was 6 months old - that wasn't planned and we weren't having sex a lot because we had a 6m old so that didn't take very long at all.

PurpleChrayn · 10/07/2024 13:51

I was 38y9months old when I conceived DD. It took us 7 cycles.

I was 41y3months when I conceived DS. It took 9 months.

Currently 43y4months and we've been trying for #3 for 6 months and will probably give up soon.

Normallynumb · 10/07/2024 13:54

Had my DS3 at 36. Conceived my first month
I was taking temp and charting so I knew the right time( 22 years ago.. There are apps now)
Keep trying around Ovulation

MakingPlans2025 · 10/07/2024 13:57

Aged 36, conceived by accident so does that count as first cycle? Guess so!

MaltipooMama · 10/07/2024 14:06

I conceived my first and only when I was 37, I had recently been diagnosed with PCOS and had been off the depo for around 7 months and my period hadn't even returned yet, so I must've literally convinced during my first month of ovulation

Yumyumcakes · 10/07/2024 14:08

BenignIntervention · 10/07/2024 13:34

Took one cycle at 27, 3 cycles at 30, 2 cycles at 31…and one contraception failure at 36!

I don’t think fertility falls off a cliff after 35. Everyone is different, though. I don’t think I’d necessarily worry at your age and stage of trying,

Edited

Even with dh ‘variable sperm parameters’?

14 months. Both of you take CoQ10 and for you, take starflower oil up to ovulation.

Overbythewaterfountain · 10/07/2024 14:11

If I were you (especially as you're feeling stressed about it) I would ditch EVERYTHING tracking related for six months and just DTD every other day. This is shown to be more effective than tracking because it ensures there are always fresh sperm available to catch an egg as soon as it's released. I got pregnant first month doing this at age 34 (second baby), my cycle was extremely irregular post-COVID (but has always been quite irregular anyway). I was also doing ovulation tests just for fun because a friend gave me some and I was still breastfeeding my first, but I never got a positive ovulation test!

Lying on your back with legs/hips raised for ten minutes after sex increases chances of conception by 20%.

DearOccupant · 10/07/2024 14:12

First month aged 40 twice (though both ended in miscarriage)
First month aged 41 (this one was successful)

ShelleyCarpenter · 10/07/2024 14:13

Conceived my first at 38 the second month
Conceived second at 41 after 11 months of trying

Marmite27 · 10/07/2024 14:14

First took 6 months at 34, second took 20 minutes at 38. It was a hasty decision and the calendar worked in our favour!

With DC1, I had been on the pill for 16 years, so I think it took some time to leave my system. I didn’t go back on any contraception between the two pregnancies.

ReadtheReviews · 10/07/2024 14:16

Had my second at 39. Took on third attempt.

AgeGapBbe · 10/07/2024 14:18

You MUST read ‘it starts with the egg’. So much outdated information out there, even from drs/medical professionals. Me and DP took on the changes in the book and got pregnant 3 months later-exactly the time it takes for dietary/environmental changes to have full effect on mature eggs. We tried for just under 2 years in total, I was 37.

AMH is far more meaningless than they make out it is, and doesn’t measure quite how you think it does. Both sperm and egg quality can be improved fairly quickly and easily.

Jaq27 · 10/07/2024 14:18

Doctors said I was sub fertile as I had long cycles (42-56 days) but I got pregnant the first month of trying age 35 - I had DD age 36.
Conceived our son when I was age 38 after one bout of unprotected sex.
fyi I had been using a device called ‘Persona’ for natural contraception for 2 years so I had begun to know signs of ovulation. Mucus changes, mittleschmerz, calendar dates etc
:) good luck x

So this is me, my cycle can be quite irregular.

but that’s some sage advice!

I’ve got that book, I bought it when I was ttc my first and was told I’d need icsi but never actually got around to reading it because I conceived

Read it and utilise the changes would be my advice! There’s so much in there which can really help! I found it amazing

1st DC started trying at 37 - it took 2 years. We stopped trying, changed our lifestyles moving to a small cottage in the country, bought a 2 seater sports car, started looking at horses to buy, DH changed jobs to a more relaxed roll & I lost 2 stone and conceived. Finally had DC1 at 39. DC2 - tried on DC1s 1st birthday and got pregnant 1st attempt.
Ended up selling the sports car for an estate car, didn’t get a horse and had to build a big extension to fit us all in. 🥴

GabrielOakRose · 10/07/2024 15:40

3 months at 36. I used OPKs and timed it same day and 36 hours later. It had previously been quicker than 3 months doing that.

lastgreat · 10/07/2024 15:41

Accidentally pregnant at 36 Blush

mondaytosunday · 10/07/2024 15:53

Had kids at 41 and 43. About four months with each. Did nothing other than the deed a few times a week.
