How long did it take?

this will be my third, I’m out from my 2nd ttc cycle and I’m worried it might not happen.

i track my cycle, use opk and temp. Any other tips?
my first took close to 9 months which I know is normal (partner and I were late 20s) second complete surprise (early 30s). Dh had ‘variable sperm parameters’

Conceived at 38 (3rd month) 39 (1st month) and 41 (1st month)

Very similar for me but a couple of years older. Conceived everytime we used the clearblue sticks.

ETA: I forgot to add we only dtd once or twice per cycle each time. Building up supplies can be more important when you're older I think.

Gamergirl86 · 10/07/2024 10:17

I was 36 with #1 via ivf.
38 with #2 cycle 4 (natural conception)
40, currently 28 weeks with #3 cycle 1 (natural conception)

Babycatsmummy · 10/07/2024 10:17

I was 35. I had my coil removed and was pregnant within 3 months, really didn't expect it to happen so quickly as I've been on contraception since I was 16 and I'm not the most health conscious of people.

Fifthtimelucky · 10/07/2024 10:19

First at 35. Took 3 months of trying (by which I mean using no contraception rather than anything more scientific).

Second at 37, when the first was 18 months. Hard to say how long it took as for the first few months there wasn't much sex and I was exclusively breastfeeding (and didn't stop breastfeeding her until I was pregnant again).

I don't think it is any coincidence that I became pregnant when my daughter started sleeping better and I was less exhausted because I had a decent night's sleep myself.

Cliedi · 10/07/2024 10:20

Got pregnant first try at 34. 37 second month trying.

MyUmberSeal · 10/07/2024 10:26

Got pregnant first time at 39. Was told it would take forever by numerous friends due to my age, but it didn’t, 4 months later I was pregnant.

Yumyumcakes · 10/07/2024 10:04

This does worry me, I feel like I got too lucky with my first 2. I almost feel undeserving.

how old were you when you started ttc for your 3rd?

36, you're not undeserving! I'm not going to lie, the losses were challenging but there was never a reason found .... There's that element of the unknown. Obviously my fertility changed dramatically- for reasons not fully established, I don't mean to alarm you (really hope your own path is a lot smoother!). It's just what happened. There was a different husband, I was older and prior to that (34) I developed an autoimmune condition - all of those may have been significant. But a barage of tests found nothing significant and I just accepted that youth is an advantage physically. BUT age has been huge advantage emotionally I am much more the parent I want to be!

myfitbitisfucked · 10/07/2024 10:32

38 - nothing. I was on the contraceptive injection and fell pregnant whilst on it had DS1 a month after I turned 39
40 - thought about having another on summer holiday. Get a bit strange so did a test and was pregnant. DD born just after I turned 41
DS2 wasn’t planned he arrived when I was 42

I was breastfeeding when I got pregnant with the second and third.

redalex261 · 10/07/2024 10:37

Started trying at 35 pregnant 18 mths later. Miscarried 12 wk in. Pregnant at 37 born at 37 yrs 11 mths! It’s s lottery though, sister pregnant within 4 wks of coil removal in mid thirties.

LizzeyBenett · 10/07/2024 10:38

Started TTC when I was 34 she's 4 weeks now and I'm 37 . Had a MC at the very beginning of TTC and took another 2 years to fall pregnant again .

Dontliketheheat · 10/07/2024 10:42

35 9 months
37 1 month
40 failed to conceive

Cucamelons · 10/07/2024 10:43

Conceived 35 and 39, both successful. Shock one at 43 but miscarried before I’d decided what to do (already had 3 children)

Yumyumcakes · 10/07/2024 10:02

Congratulations beautiful! Did your DP do anything in particular? I’m ovulating and I had an Amh test done in my late 20s that showed high ovarian reserve, so it’s dh sperm I’m a bit worried about.

I’ve started worrying we just fluked it with our first two x

Thanks. 3 months is not that long to try unfortunately and even a perfectly healthy couple its normal to take up to a year. If you've conceived twice before then it's less likely to be any issues but if worried you can usually google nearby fertility testing clinics who will do a sperm count (or at home tests though not as accurate).

My husband had cancer so it took a few years of treatments before we conceived. his numbers are still well below the normal parameters but i seem to be the most ridiculously fertile person on the planet, despite a very low AMH, as got pregnant accidently whilst doing IVF the first time and this time only had one month didn't conceive. but i do come from a family where the women joke their husbands just look at them and they're pregnant

35 is not a cliff edge. fertility does decline with age but it's still young enough to not stress too much

NoWordForFluffy · 10/07/2024 10:45

5 months / 6 cycles at 35 and 4 months at 36/37.

blitzen · 10/07/2024 10:47

DS1 took 6 cycles when I was 34/35 (successful on second cycle trying SMEP)
DS2 took 1 cycle, but literally one shag when I was 37

I’m hesitant of going down that route again because we did originally and was told due to his numbers it was a lost cause, we’d need icsi. That just created this sense of panic

his morphology was 2/4%. He had a few tests and the numbers went up and down, but we learned that the longer he goes without ‘releasing sperm’ for want to a better phrase the lower motility he has and every other day is the best for his count which overall was fine. It was just morphology that was low

Don't stress about it. Your body won't let you get pregnant if you are too stressed!

Sorrypinkfish · 10/07/2024 10:54

First child at 19, wasn’t expected so no idea on time taken to conceive, second at 25 after about 6m of trying. Third at 37 first month trying and fourth at 38 within one month of breastfeeding ending.

My second baby was the only one I obsessed over trying to conceive and was the one that took longest.

This is so true, I think it’s the difference between my first and second… however for some reason I just can’t stop

My Mum had me at 40 (1968), her first at 28. My Dad had put it about, but I was his only child, so there was possibly sperm issues. She had come off the pill because of issues, took a few chances over four months and then thought I was the menopause. A lot of women would get caught 40-45, thinking that they didn't have to be careful. I think that you are worrying too soon.

tarheelbaby · 10/07/2024 11:00

DD1 was conceived when I was 34 after 5-6 mos of trying. I was just starting to freak out a little. DH was going away when I thought I would ovulate so we gave it the old college try but earlier in the cycle. Bingo.
DD2 was conceived when I was 37 on the very first try - learned from previous time and started trying just after period. DH was a bit taken aback. He'd been hoping for a 'long campaign'.

MaryShelley1818 · 10/07/2024 11:00

DS (at 39) took 5mths.
DD (at 42) took about a year, we had all the tests done and were diagnosed with unexplained secondary infertility, then Covid happened and all our appointments were cancelled so we drew a line under it and moved on, and along she came 😊

80smonster · 10/07/2024 11:05

12 weeks. I’d got my cycle days confused so we were trying on the wrong days the first month. The third month we fell pregnant. I was pretty annoyed tbh, everyone told us it would take ‘years’. Remember to test in the morning… I did not know about this rule, so consequently got false negatives for the first 6 weeks of my pregnancy.

KnittedCardi · 10/07/2024 11:08

Pretty quickly with both DD's. Didn't do anything except have more regular sex!

Olika · 10/07/2024 11:24

I got pregnant right away at 37 but MC and it took us 2.5y to succeed.
I watched a really good interview with a fertility doctor on YouTube recently and she said you should have regular sex for sperm quality as when you don't 'old unviable' sperm keeps coming out and blocking the way for new viable sperm needed for conception.
You DTD every other day is good to avoid the above. I personally would look into taking Ubiquinol (both and and DH) besides fertility supplements but that's just what helped us on our journey.
I definitely believe that when you don't get you fall pregnant faster than when you are trying but it's just so difficult to forget TTC when having a baby is so important.
