To think Judy Murray is that mum!

So Judy Murray is astonished Emma Raducanu backed out of playing a farewell mixed doubles game with her son because she didn’t feel well that morning and wanted to prioritise her qualifying singles match the next day.

If it had been the other way round I’d be surprised if Andy didn’t do the same and Judy would have backed his decision. AIBU to think women are always called upon to sacrifice their own interests for those of men and Judy Murray is that mum!

AM himself - he's so very dour isn't he? Never seems particularly pleased about anything!

He's really not though! If you've ever seen him on something like A league of its own, he's got a great sense of humour and is always poking fun at things (as is Judy).

I hold my hands up and say i have only seen him speaking in interviews wrt matches he's just played or is about to play. I'm sure he's fine.

To be honest i find a dry sense of humour very funny.

bridgetreilly · 09/07/2024 13:16

She is not ‘that mum’ as anyone with reading comprehension would grasp, but for those hard of understanding, her second tweet made it completely clear. ‘Astonishing’ was sarcastic, and the reason she was entirely unsurprised was nothing to do with Raducanu and everything to do with the scheduling.

JanefromLondon1 · 09/07/2024 13:19

She's amazing, really stands up for women's rights (a true TERF) and wasn't having a pop at ER at all.

SureJanOK · 09/07/2024 13:19

I like her. I'd want her help in a crisis. I'd be slightly terrified if she was my mil tho.

And yy to Andy having respectful views of women.

notacooldad · 09/07/2024 13:20

Storm in a teacup.
I really like Judy Murray.

mondaytosunday · 09/07/2024 13:21

Of course Judy is 'that mum'! Her boys would not have got as far as they have without her pushing pushing pushing. Successful athletes are a team effort, and it's usually a parent who has to be the number one support, cheerleader and advocate.

plainjayne8282 · 09/07/2024 13:21

Yeah, I agree.

It's her career and she made a decision. There's nothing "astonishing" about it.

JanefromLondon1 · 09/07/2024 13:24

No Judy knows what a woman is and does a huge amount for grass roots tennis. The only thing that Judy and Nicola have in common are their accent and their sex chromosomes.

tobee · 09/07/2024 13:27

What would people be saying if it was Willie Murray saying it?

There have been tons of tennis dads who have been hugely over involved in their (especially) daughters careers btw.

burnhambreeches · 09/07/2024 13:33

I misread the title as.
Judy Murray is That Man.
Sorry Jude

A lot of the tennis dads come across as way too possessive too

Re: JM; i can remember back when AM was getting married ect thinking jesus - AM's wife is a brave woman. I'd guess that not much goes on in AMs life without his mother's input ....

AM himself - he's so very dour isn't he? Never seems particularly pleased about anything!

I find the big retirement hoo har a bit weird when he's going to the olympics in a couple of weeks 🤔

He's got a great sense of humour - watch either of the old Mock the Week episodes where he was in the audience. The comedians rip the piss out of him (and his mum) and he and Kim find it hilarious.

tobee · 09/07/2024 13:37

Yes and some criminal @Sarah2891

peeweemermaid · 09/07/2024 13:38

Shes best friends with nippy sweety, what can you expect.

CremeEggThief · 09/07/2024 13:38

YABU to bring this up now. In fact why are you so far behind the times, OP? Both players are now out/gone; why bring it up 3 days later? Tennis moves on a lot quicker than that; people are now focussed on the remaining players in the tournament...

OhsunshineWhereAreYou · 09/07/2024 13:40

Judy has explained her comment. It was taken the wrong way.

Judy has had ambitions for her children since they were young. Yes she’s probably been “that mum” at times but as a result she has raised successful children who she can be incredibly proud of.

She’s admitted there are things she would have done differently.

Ultimately she’s just a mum who has tried her best.

SureJanOK · 09/07/2024 13:43

Oh yeah, true, I forgot she was friends with Nippy. Points off for that, Judy!

Riapia · 09/07/2024 13:45

She’ll no longer be able to share in the glow of his spotlight.

decionsdecisions62 · 09/07/2024 13:45

Can't stand the woman. He's a grown man Judy! Back off! He has a wife!

SureJanOK · 09/07/2024 13:48

Am I alone in thinking I will really miss seeing Kim Sears/Murray's HAIR at Wimbledon?!!!

<pray a moment's silence for the hair>

MrRydersParlourGame · 09/07/2024 13:59

Whatever your opinions of the rights and wrongs of Emma pulling out, Andy Murray is 37 years old and doesn't need his mummy's public commentary on whether or not somebody was mean to him at work!

twilightermummy · 09/07/2024 14:16

Topseyt123
I don't think so as she described it as "unforgivable" . I don't like how she's behaved well towards a young woman at all. I can't even believe Ann Diamond has become a thing in this whole debacle! How strange 😂

Thinking someone said something tactless and is pushy isn't " hate". Stop exaggerating

Did you mean to quote me or the poster I was quoting?

Windchiming · 09/07/2024 14:30

Liv999 · 09/07/2024 10:56

She's definitely that mum, of course Emma was going to prioritise her singles match

To be fair to Andy, Emma should have not agreed and made big speeches about her dream to play with him when clearly it was bit. I would have understood about wrist if she completely dropped out of tournament. Not sure why some posters made it about man versus woman issue.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 09/07/2024 14:58

@Mycatsmudge to be honest, i dont know why she thinks she can make those kind of statements!! can andy not speak for himself? she has become well know by the skin of his coat tails! how many other ex tennis coaches can you name? she hasnt even been his coach for years! I couldnt name any other!! not a likeable person and way too pushy
