To be bored out of my brain whilst breast feeding

FreightTrain · 08/07/2024 19:09

Baby is 10 days old and I am bored stiff whilst breastfeeding her. There’s only so much scrolling on social media or the news that I can take and I’m not sure I have the headspace for a book right now.

I am desperate to do some housework, what a sad state of affairs 😂

Please share ideas for how I can keep myself occupied or at the very least tell me it gets easier.

Just lean into it and enjoy it - I watched the entire back catalogue of Below Deck over the first few months of breastfeeding with my first and and Law & Order SVU with the second.

Now I have a book loaded onto my Kindle app on my phone (baby is 12 months) and I enjoy the time catching up on my reading

It's a time for box sets

Merrow · 08/07/2024 19:18

I downloaded Duolingo, can't say I've taken a huge amount in but I do know more Spanish than when I started! I found I was a bit spaced out for box sets

Elephant03 · 08/07/2024 19:19

Films, books, games on phone, can you get into a hobby you can do whilst breastfeeding?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/07/2024 19:19

Watching tv or box sets. The only way.

hushabybaby · 08/07/2024 19:19

A while ago.. but I also watched Frasier start to finish! 🙃

ClemFandangooo · 08/07/2024 19:20

Start a new series! I started Greys Anatomy when DD1 was born

Humdingerydoo · 08/07/2024 19:21

You do what any sensible human being would do - you watch The West Wing from beginning to end, alternatively Schitt's Creek if you'd prefer to be laughing.

Oh and you also start deciding now already what absolute nonsense you'll be buying on Amazon Prime day.

Enjoy your little bundle of joy :) I miss those early baby days, but they are tiring. So take care of yourself!

turkeyboots · 08/07/2024 19:21

DD was a very slow feeder, so I watched box sets. Worked my way through Gilmore Girls and the Tudors and MadMen.
I'd also read, especially at night. Something light and fun will do the trick. If you want a suggestion start with Jilly Cooper.

Itsasunshineyday · 08/07/2024 19:23

Congratulations on your new arrival. It does get easier, you'll get into a routine and before you know it, your baby will be weaning and the feeds will be less frequent.
If you like books then try Audible or you can listen to books for free from your library. There's also podcasts.
Try feeding in different places too. When it's good weather, sit outside. It'll do you and the baby a world of good. Go to the local park and find a quiet bench to sit on. Or a cafe where you can sit inside or outside. It'll break up the boredom and you can watch the world go by whilst listening to a book.

I watched American horror story while feeding ds!

Other options are pod casts, films that you wouldn't usually sit down and watch etc.

When they get a bit bigger then you can use a stretchy sling to feed whilst moving about.

Hankunamatata · 08/07/2024 19:31

Box sets on tv.
Audiobooks
I did do quite a bit of reading but light hearted fluffy stuff

ShillyShallySherbet · 08/07/2024 19:33

Enjoy being sat down as you won’t be doing much of it once they are moving about! Watch TV, read, just enjoy!

DinnaeFashYersel · 08/07/2024 19:34

Box sets.

I watched the whole of Friends.

tortiecat · 08/07/2024 19:34

Podcasts - depends on what you are interested in, I love history and health ones.
With DS, the slowest feeder in the world, I watched every single episode of Taskmaster. With DD I am going through Young Sheldon and 8 out of 10 Cats.
Also doing Tesco online shop and buying random things on Amazon.

NOTthisOldchestnut · 08/07/2024 19:34

Ipad and wireless headphones? Plenty to binge watch on Netflix!

ExtraOnions · 08/07/2024 19:34

I watched the whole 6 series of “Upstairs Downstairs” (the 70s version)… still makes me smile now

NOTthisOldchestnut · 08/07/2024 19:36

Oh and I second enjoy it now. Once they're toddlers...

This was me, also 😁

BFing DD1 was also when I discovered Mumsnet. I killed many an hour reading parking threads...

greglet · 08/07/2024 19:36

I rewatched the first eight seasons of ER on 4OD 😂 Needed something not too taxing but that would keep my attention.

Ponderingwindow · 08/07/2024 19:37

Imagine what it was like before the smartphone and streaming.

I did at least have a very good dvd library, but that requires planning.

NerrSnerr · 08/07/2024 19:37

I watched all the seasons of House. I'm of a lazy disposition though and love sitting doing nothing.

Wgdici52828 · 08/07/2024 19:38

YANBU it’s bloody hard work and not exciting! It does get easier because as they get older they get more efficient so feeds are shorter but it will be a slog for a few months yet.

I watched tv or listened to podcasts and audiobooks mostly!

LostTheMarble · 08/07/2024 19:39

When my eldest was born, I got a 3DS and played Professor Layton games. Was bloody brilliant, I miss those days 🤣.
