To be bored out of my brain whilst breast feeding

FreightTrain · 08/07/2024 19:09

Baby is 10 days old and I am bored stiff whilst breastfeeding her. There’s only so much scrolling on social media or the news that I can take and I’m not sure I have the headspace for a book right now.

I am desperate to do some housework, what a sad state of affairs 😂

Please share ideas for how I can keep myself occupied or at the very least tell me it gets easier.

I didn't breast feed but did spend a lot of my most leave watching the tudors...it was 'educational' .Henry Cavill and Jonathan Rhys Meyers make excellent teachers!

Me too! And Desperate Housewives 😂 I was SO BORED

How about talking to or gently singing to your baby? I loved that beautiful and special time of gazing into my baby's eyes whilst feeding them, holding their tiny fingers or stroking their soft cheek.

This was my experience too. Relax and enjoy the time was my thought. It was a time to be still and have such special bonding time. they grow so quickly and you won’t have this special time again was my thought.

Find the headspace for books! I read and read and read when breastfeeding mine. God I wish I had an excuse to read that much now.

And mine it was such a special wonderful time I can't imagine reading or watching TV and am utterly astonished at these replies

When my eldest was born, I got a 3DS and played Professor Layton games. Was bloody brilliant, I miss those days 🤣.

I played Civilisation on the PS.

Gaming is frowned upon on MN but it's fantastic for BFing.

Oh gawd, that's us TV bingers put down as inadequate mums 😂

Philandbill · 08/07/2024 20:52

If you've never watched The West Wing (on all4 for free) now is your chance. And if you've watched it before it stands up to a second watch😃And "War and Peace" is a cracking good read , and I'm not being sarcastic. You'll not get this enforced sitting for years after this....

Agreed, anything turn-based so it's ok if you're interrupted for a nappy.

I love Slay the Spire and Into the Breach.

But you're either a gamer or not, and I guess op isn't, or she wouldn't have this issue!

minipie · 08/07/2024 20:53

Guilt free TV binge time!!

I watched 90210 Blush

Philandbill · 08/07/2024 20:54

DappledThings · 08/07/2024 20:29

You do what any sensible human being would do - you watch The West Wing from beginning to end
Exactly what I did. Think that was my 3rd go all the way through it

Didn't see these before I posted. Great minds @DappledThings etc.

Ragwort · 08/07/2024 20:54

That's when I got into Mumsnet ... still addicted after 24 years ... and I could only access it on the PC in those early days!

minipie · 08/07/2024 20:55

All those “it was such a special moment I couldn’t watch TV”… I felt like that about bedtime feeds. And nighttime feeds were in bed, no TV so were more about me and the baby. But regular daytime feeds… nope, pass me the remote

Don't worry, it's just so certain posters can show they love their children more than the rest of us!

DD fed for hours at the beginning. There's only so much head-sniffing and cheek-snuggling you can do in life!

Podcasts and audiobooks!

JollyGreenSnake · 08/07/2024 20:59

Podcasts, audiobooks and e-books (library app on my phone, also have a Kindle). This stage will pass by before you know it....

lashy · 08/07/2024 20:59

I used to play Bejewelled during night feeds particularly (keeps the grey cells active)... still play it occasionally and my Daughter is now almost 12 😄

Hibernatalie · 08/07/2024 21:03

I remember that urge to do housework. It's hard being pinned down. 10 days - you're still in the trenches; it definitely gets easier x

Noseybookworm · 08/07/2024 21:22

I used to watch tv or read - if you don't feel the headspace for a new book right now, download some old favourites on your kindle and re-read! Invite a friend over so you can sit and chat while feeding (they can also bring you drinks and snacks!) In the first 6 weeks or so, remind yourself that this is the most important job you can do - you're building your milk supply, you and baby are getting used to each other and establishing a bond. Housework and everything else can wait - you need your rest and your body needs time to recover! Breastfeeding is the best excuse to relax and rest 😄

Start a new series! I started Greys Anatomy when DD1 was born

So did I!! Love Greys

PeloMom · 08/07/2024 21:42

What do you like doing? Reading? Binge watching Netflix? Now it’s time to go nuts on that.

Mine feed with their eyes closed. It isn't special or wonderful to sit there and stare at them feeding 5 times a day.

It's boring. TV it is.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 08/07/2024 22:08

Breastfeeding newborns got me addicted to made for TV Channel 5 movies! I think there are channels that do them now.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 08/07/2024 22:14

Thank God my two were quick feeders! 10 mins each side and job done which was great when I realised I'd sat down without the remote (only had a Nokia back then so definitely no scrolling!)

Icanttakethisanymore · 08/07/2024 22:18

I found it infuriating too. Turns out the only thing worse than housework is being surrounded by shit and not be able tk do anything about it because you’re stuck under a baby 😂. There’s no solution though, if you’re into sport you’ve got the olympics coming up. I listened to podcasts a lot too.
