To be bored out of my brain whilst breast feeding

FreightTrain · 08/07/2024 19:09

Baby is 10 days old and I am bored stiff whilst breastfeeding her. There’s only so much scrolling on social media or the news that I can take and I’m not sure I have the headspace for a book right now.

I am desperate to do some housework, what a sad state of affairs 😂

Please share ideas for how I can keep myself occupied or at the very least tell me it gets easier.

I agree with watching a lot of tv.

But also, it will get easier. She'll get more efficient at feeding, and won't spends ages and ages on you. Stretches between feeds will also gradually get longer.

Box sets, long phone chats or feed lying down so you can snooze.

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 08/07/2024 19:42

How about talking to or gently singing to your baby? I loved that beautiful and special time of gazing into my baby's eyes whilst feeding them, holding their tiny fingers or stroking their soft cheek.

Ragwort · 08/07/2024 19:45

Pondering that was me! Well before mobile phones were as common as they are now and we didn't have a tv at the time, I read nonstop .. loved it (the reading not the breast feeding Grin).

Box sets are your friend. Bf introduced me to mn so you're halfway there anyway since you're on it.

Mistralli · 08/07/2024 19:49

I figured a way to prop a laptop below the baby, and was then able to play computer games...

Also spent way too much time shopping for baby clothes in the sales!

I didn't breast feed but did spend a lot of my most leave watching the tudors...it was 'educational' .Henry Cavill and Jonathan Rhys Meyers make excellent teachers!

I watched GoT from start to finish!! Find some great series to watch and enjoy. Fabulous excuse to relax and binge watch

mrssunshinexxx · 08/07/2024 19:56

Pop her in sling to feed and crack on

princessbananahammock252 · 08/07/2024 19:56

With my first I watched friends from start to finish, and with my second I watched superstore from start to finish.

I did a lot of baking and went out for really long walks, which was really nice whilst it lasted. I mostly read when feeding at night, but then even a side light and a page turning became way too exciting and they wouldn’t feed if I was doing anything so thrilling so I went back to really long walks.

Podcasts could be good, crosswords, jigsaws? Online games, crafts maybe. loads of sports on tv at the moment with Wimbledon, the football and the olympics coming up, get into that? All my baking wasn’t that great for the waistline I’ll admit but I got really into bread making and still do it!

JurassicClark · 08/07/2024 19:57

Buffy, ER, West Wing all got me through at various stages. It's amazing how much time breastfeeding takes.

Blahblah34 · 08/07/2024 19:57

Get into a box set, preferably one from the early noughties with 22 episodes a series

angelcake20 · 08/07/2024 19:58

I loved breastfeeding my first, and that was before the age of the internet and smartphones. I read so much as it took at least 30 mins at a time. I was very upset when DD turned out to be a speedy feeder and was done and dusted in 5 mins!

EatTheGnome · 08/07/2024 20:02

Totally relatable. What for the packages to start arriving from your midnight, sleep -hazed browsing.

My one bit of advice is to remember that the baby won't starve or come to any harm if it cannot be fed immediately.

Take the long shower, go for the walk, eat in peace while DH walks around the block. Those precious 10 min blocks will make all the difference x

pinkpirlie · 08/07/2024 20:03

I watched "A million little things" when baby was little. It was the only show I could just put on and relax to for some reason. Everything else felt like a chore.

Strictlymad · 08/07/2024 20:03

Newborns take ages to feed but as they grow they get more efficient and can be on and off in 5-10 mins soon! Get stuck into a box set like the crown

letmeeatinpeace · 08/07/2024 20:03

Oh god I remember this. Bored to the BONE.
Boredom like I'd never experienced. A heavy black cloud. Eventually, the cloud descended and merged and we became one. It became easier after that, though I accidentally bought a house thanks to spending so much time mindlessly scrolling property porn.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/07/2024 20:04

I would like to recommend Revenge.

StrongandNorthern · 08/07/2024 20:05

Just chill, and think ... Zone out ... Peace and quiet ... what's not to like?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/07/2024 20:05

I read all of Jilly Cooper's Rutshire Chronicles while I was breastfeeding. They're wonderfully ridiculous and just right fit the middle of the night 😉

newpussmum · 08/07/2024 20:06

Listen to podcasts/audio books?

Amberpants · 08/07/2024 20:06

Box sets, I binged on Downton 😂

MotherofChaosandDestruction · 08/07/2024 20:06

Box sets but whatever you do don't buy lots of random stuff at 3am.

JumpstartMondays · 08/07/2024 20:07

Binge watch and binge eat. You've earnt it. Try not to online shop!

Congratulations 🥰
