Who is Larry the cat’s family?

Just seen mention of Larry the cat making an appearance for the first cabinet meeting. But… does someone live and sleep there continuously with him? Does he have a family? Is he a lone ranger, does he live independently? What’s the deal?

Love this thread. 🥰🥰😂😂

Cats aren't like people or dogs. They bond to places not people. Larry (quite rightly) won't care what humans are living in his space as long as they don't hassle him.

CalicoPusscat · 08/07/2024 03:46

The rest of the world must think we're quite bonkers having government cats.

There's almost as much interest in Larry as there is in the PM (Larry is cuter though)

What would happen if a prime minister moved in with a dog that didn't like cats

Boris did that.

Larry won.

Apparently some of the photographers take treats for him and he likes to inspect their cameras.

I'm sure Larry believes the police officer outside is just there to let him in/out.

CalicoPusscat · 08/07/2024 04:13

@sashh I wish I had that kind of confidence!

IkeaMeatballGravy · 08/07/2024 05:09

If he doesn't receive taxpayer funding, who pays for his official stationary? Does he pay out of his own pocket? DS wrote him a fan letter and received a couple of Larry postcards and a lovely hand written note back 'from Larry'.

FuckMeUpFlorida · 08/07/2024 05:22

This is the best thing I've read on Mumsnet in months

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2024 10:09

@Wintersgirl I read somewhere that there are two front doors. They swap them over when they need painting.

If he’s anything like my cat, he would be inspecting their bags for packed lunches, sandwiches etc, to snaffle!

It could be custom made to look like a mini no. 10 door.

I think that is a fabulous idea! Why has no one thought of that before!

Nextdoor55 · 08/07/2024 21:09

I have it on some authority that Larry the car belonged to Cameron &: because he was so attached to staff he couldn't bring himself to remove him when he left office

Larry has staff to open doors for him, why would he lower himself to opening his own door? How un dignified?

@Callipygion probably that too.

@thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway

I think is very funny when he demands the policemen to open the doors for him.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I saw a video yesterday of this happening.
The policeman knocked the knocker, the door opened about a foot, and Larry went in and the door shut behind him.
Imagine being so important that you don’t even have to knock on doors to gain entry.

Then I saw another video where he made the person stand at the door a good several minutes while he decided whether or not he really wanted to go in.
He just sat there hahaha while they held the door. 😂

My cat does this. They just change their minds 😂

We had a ginger cat who would sit at the patio doors and meow to go out. Open the door for her, out she’d go, shut door. Then she’d turn round and sit looking in, meowing to come back in. Open door, in she’d come. Shut door. (You can tell where this is going can’t you? 😂) Puss then sits at door meowing to go out. Open door, out she goes, shut door. She turns round, sits looking in meowing. Open door, puss comes in, shut door. Repeat ad infinitum. 😂

Needmorelego · 09/07/2024 22:42

@Callipygion we had a cat that would meow at the backdoor to come in, walk through the house to the front door and then meow to be let out.
There was a side alley outside that she could have used to just walk around 😂🙄

MannyTeddy · 09/07/2024 23:10

There is a reason why the Egyptians worshipped them! This hasn't changed in their minds either. 😂😂 We are enslaved by 2 cats also and know our place. 🥰🥰

This is the cat equivalent of us teasing them with a cat toy. They think they are playing with their pet.

AInightingale · 09/07/2024 23:26

Or when they are out all day/night, appear frantically meowing at the window, paws up beating on the glass, come in, eat two mouthfuls of food, then head back to the door again to be let out. 🙄

Acapulco12 · 09/07/2024 23:34

I’ve met Larry and he is lovely! He kept himself to himself when I met him (understandably!) but he let me stroke him and was very welcoming. He’s keeping well for a 16 year old!

I do wonder about the H&S at work thing.
I'm quite allergic to cats and can't wouldn't be able to work in that environment.

I'm allergic to cats and I have three!

I wonder how old he is. Will he have a state funeral one day”

He’s only 16, years to go. I’m sure he has a certain special someone (or so they all believe 😁)
