Voting labour for the first time. Anyone else?

Labour are far from perfect, but I like Keir Starmer and I think they are the best party to turn things around from the awful mess the incumbents have got us into.

He’s not glossy or witty or funny, but he seems decent - (he clearly has a wonderful wife and that only reflects well on him!)

Anyway, just curious - anyone else voting Labour for the first time? I’m 40 by the way and in the south east.

No..so many reasons. Some being:
Tax
Women's rights
Schooling
Running of the NHS
A quick google will detail they have proven they cannot run a budget. Recent/current examples.

Overthebow · 04/07/2024 06:42

No

Hothotdamage · 04/07/2024 06:42

Where on tax is a problem?

Didimum · 04/07/2024 06:43

Yes, me. Have always voted Lib Dem.

5475878237NC · 04/07/2024 06:45

No. I usually vote Labour/lib Dem but am voting for party of women to register my discontent with all of the parties in protecting women's rights. If that wasn't sn option I'd spoil my ballot. I can't understand a single woman voting for labour.

TroysMammy · 04/07/2024 06:46

Labour will obviously be fabulous because Keir Starmer has a wonderful wife. You do realise his wife won't be running the country?

Wedoourish · 04/07/2024 06:47

Yes we are all voting Labour. Would normally vote Lib Dem or Green but am determined to ensure the tories are jobless by this time tomorrow!!!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/07/2024 06:48

Yes, doesn’t mean I love every policy but on the whole Keir seems the most decent and upstanding.

Thank you for your reply - can I ask who you’re voting for instead? (no judgement!)

interestingly, my best friend is not voting Labour as she thinks they don’t support Trans Rights.

But I think you’re saying one of the reasons youre not voting Labour is they aren’t clear on. Women’s Rights - as in, they won’t define what a woman is, etc; do I understand that correctly?

I’m voting labour, with reservations (women’s rights, self ID etc) because I think that overall they will be better than the current government. I’d like to vote Lib Dem or Green but in this area the only way to get the Tories out is to vote Labour, and both LD and Green are also sketchy on women’s rights. I feel a bit sad that I’m not voting for a party I really ‘believe’ in, but such is life.

Yes, me. Have always voted Lib Dem.

Yes I’ve always voted Lib Dem previously too.

Gosh no. Always voted labour but they can not be trusted to uphold women's safe spaces. At all. All of their responses so far indicate that they will bow to pressure to allow female spaces to be shared by men.

RosaRoja · 04/07/2024 06:52

LD this time, I hope they have a chance where we are to get the Tory out.

Who are the top two parties in your seat?

Type2whattodo · 04/07/2024 06:53

Voting Tory for the first time ever, for Women's rights. Am quite terrified what Labour will do to Women and I have 2x DD.
I fully expect labour to win and sadly expect to have womens rights stripped away quite quickly after, until they wake up and start panicking and it'll be too late.

Labour are going to allow all sorts of fetishism in men to ID into women and I fear for my DD future. Lucky I hold citizenship to another country also and can leave if need be.

CountdownCat · 04/07/2024 06:54

No, I am very dismayed with their lack of interest in protecting female safe spaces.

If they could have been sensible about this issue I'd have voted for them.

Georgieporgypud · 04/07/2024 06:55

I'm voting Labour and I'm very excited to do so. They've got loads in their manifesto to help women, such as overhauling the process for prosecuting rapists, improving domestic violence policing, as well as lots of other stuff - close tax loopholes that big businesses take advantage of, improve education, the nhs, improve policing overall, tackle gangs that traffic people - and I'm looking forward to the grown ups being in charge.

Haha yes!

I guess that when assessing someone’s character, the fact they they are in a long term relationship with a smart person, and haven’t had a ton of affairs, reflects well on them.

the most obvious opposite to this being the Boris debacle, but probably the less said about that the better…! Hopefully he’s history, politically…

Have always voted Labour. However I don’t think there is any party good enough to run the country atm.
Labour can’t even run there own party imo.
Keir Starmer will have to become a leader tomorrow instead of a wet lettuce.

Missgucci · 04/07/2024 06:58

There's a big headline today about labour. If they win, dont own a home , car , pension or try to save. And don't even think of trying to leave your kids anything (of older kids don't expect any inheritance) because labour will see to it that they bleed you dry.

NamechangersRuleHere · 04/07/2024 06:58

No, I’m voting Tory. My MP is a decent man, really well respected for his work as a former Secretary of State even though BoJo sacked him off from that post. I hope he gets back in.

I used to be a Labour Party member, left because of Corbyn and see no reason to return whatsoever.

And will the Tories? Have they a good track record on women’s rights?

Theweepywillow · 04/07/2024 07:00

No absolutely not.

That will not happen.
400 Labour mp’s will embrace the gravy train like every other government before them.
There’ll be a lot of bluster and a bit of tweaking.

Who are the top two parties in your seat?

Lib Dem and labour, according to the tactical voting website.
