To think a lot of men aren't that bothered about women being ultra slim?

From what I've seen around me, men seem to be happiest with average-sized/curvier women.

A colleague of mine is a football player and very into fitness and his girlfriend is quite overweight, they've been together 6 years.

A man I liked who is quite thin, he wasn't interested. His ex is at our workplace and is significantly overweight.

I know this sounds nasty and rude, it probably is. However I feel like on the whole men aren't that bothered about women having figures like Victoria's Secret models, and personality is more important.

Along with the phrase " my husband earns X" , the phrase " my husband prefers this or that" should be banned on here.

Bellsandthistle · 04/07/2024 07:58

I don’t think anyone could say a Victoria’s Secret model isn’t curvy or doesn’t look healthy and fertile. Our idea of what is healthy has been so skewed. I understand body positivity and individual preferences but let’s be real. All things being equal, a VS model figure is more attractive than the average (overweight) woman.

Agree with other pp - such a nasty thread. Almost as though if you are 'curvy' and not a size 8-10 you are not allowed to feel desirable. And that your man is just staying with you because he is invested in other ways.

Nasty nasty thread. Skinny women - with or without curves - on this thread seem to hate to think that larger women can be desirable too. Take a look at yourselves.

Oh come on no one has said that at all but plenty of, let’s face it, fat women have said how men can’t possibly find slim women attractive because their, probably also fat, husband said so.

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 04/07/2024 08:08

And yes I am getting nasty because I am sick and tired of these fucking threads.

Yeah it's ridiculous to say VS models arent "curvy"- they absolutely are, they have very obvious boobs and bums. Also, if they are soooo undesirable then why are they even employed in the first place if men as a whole are so put off by them.

They use them to model lingerie because they are sexy- you can pretend all you want if it makes you feel better but you are deluding yourself to think men dont find VS models attractive. That doesnt mean men cant find other body types attractive too of course, but the idea that a VS model would struggle to find a man is 😂😂😂

This. Of course he's going to say that - he probably doesnt want a huge row is why. What kind of idiot waxes lyrical about how gorgeous other women are in front of his wife?

What the F...?! Go and find me a handful of comments, even one on this thread, which talks about curvy women not being allowed to be desirable?!

The vast majority of the posts on this thread are arguing that curvy women are the DEFAULT in desirability for men!

Skinny women - with or without curves - on this thread seem to hate to think that larger women can be desirable too. Take a look at yourselves.

Did you just want to post this comment anyway, irrespective of the evidence on here @Merryweatherincoming ?!

None of us 'skinny' (ugh!!) women on this thread have commented negatively on 'larger' (not my words) women.

I have celebrated women earlier on all my posts. I believe all women have beauty and desirability, and that is proven in society.

it is VERY clear to most, that what I am arguing against, is the echo chamber on here where larger women are stridently saying 'we are what men really want', and that 'no one thin looks good naked'.

I am not a minority group who deserves protecting , I get that! I've been scorned and belittled plenty of times before , for being thin, it is not new to me.

But I would politely suggest @Merryweatherincoming that you actually read the thread, instead of coming on here and tell us all that skinny women hate to think that large women can be desirable.

That's a trope you've placed in your own head. I am thin, but I celebrate the attractiveness of women who are not like me. Don't tell me otherwise.

User235648 · 04/07/2024 08:15

The sad truth is that strictly amongst men, it's extremely common and normal to joke about "fatties". It's not seen as desirable or successful. Men whose own wives are overweight may stay quiet, but shockingly often then join in as well because family members don't count. (The same way someone can be very racist but have friends of colour).

Some women can defend their husband to death saying he would never say that, but even if he didn't join in, he has absolutely heard his mates say that and would never dream of speaking up. It's like the final taboo, and a "lads code" that nobody dares to break. Even if a man many not have a personal preference for a body type, slimness is still the prevailing sentiment that nobody dares to challenge.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 04/07/2024 08:16

This is a curvy figure. She has boobs and hips and she is slim; some on here don't want to believe that is possible and would dismiss her as skinny, because she's not overweight.

To think a lot of men aren't that bothered about women being ultra slim?
Thepeopleversuswork · 04/07/2024 08:17

@EveningSpread

People are all different sizes and frames. But don’t kid yourself that it’s good to be overweight. Sweaty, slow, and ungainly isn’t a good look, even if you have got chubby boobs you can get out for a bit of validation 🤣

I was just waiting for the pro ana/orthorexia types to start swarming around this thread as they invariably do.

That’s a nasty post even by the standards of this thread.

There's really no need to put other women down to feel better about yourself.

Are you completely mad? I did no such thing.

NonPlayerCharacter · 04/07/2024 08:19

If it's curves we're talking about, slim women are more likely to be curvy because of the orders of magnitude. The slimmer you are, the smaller a difference you need between your waist and hips to create a curve.

Curvy does not mean plus sized

If you need to catch up, the answer to yesterday’s quiz (and part two) is woman A is curviest and now I’m going to tell you why. Actually, I’ll prove it using the least likely of …

I have read the thread, thank you.

I have said that men like lots of different body shapes.

That is - each man - probably likes a range of body shapes.

I have not said anything about skinny women, I think all healthy women look great and am sure are attractive to men.

I am not sure whether all women understand this as a concept though, it seems to be difficult for some women to get their heads around.

Yes a man can find a skinny woman attractive and a larger woman attractive. At the same time.

That is all.

Tired of the trope that you have to be skinny - preferably and curvy - to be attractive which has been said several times on this thread (have you read it?).

ALL BODY SHAPES ARE ATTRACTIVE TO MOST MEN, apart from probably grossly overweight or grossly underweight which are not healthy body shapes and therefore inherently unhealthy.

Lottie1234569 · 04/07/2024 08:20

I think men and women mostly find slim. I could not be attracted to a very overweight man.

Moonlitwalk · 04/07/2024 06:26

How unattractive that your partner is describing slim women in such a horrible misogynistic way, what a huge turn off 🙄This is no different to a man making gross remarks about overweight women.

What utter tosh. My DH is the least misogynistic man you could ever meet.

Sadly, I agree with this too.

sHREDDIES19 · 04/07/2024 08:26

Thought this would happen but there’s lots of negative associations with being slim, using the word skinny, stick like, heroin chic etc. I really think most men don’t care too much but seemingly women do.

EveningSpread · 04/07/2024 08:30

@Thepeopleversuswork I take back the chubby boobs and validation bit, that was mean. But it is weird that we’ve got to a place where it’s considered nasty to identify that being overweight is bad for your health. That’s hardly pro-anorexia (as weak and out of breath isn’t good for you either!).

That’s not what I’m saying. The post title is concerned with whether or not men want women to be ultra slim. The consensus is they don’t.

There are some nasty comments about thin women but then @EveningSpread turns this into a predictable thing about how anyone who isn’t thin is lying to themselves, eating pies and sitting on their arse with their “chubby boobs”.

This thread has brought out plenty of trolls on both sides but the performative undereaters worry me more than the people doing PR for “curvy” women.

I think the women who use these terms on this thread, are doing so to verbally devalue women like me.

I’m used to it! 20 years ago I was bullied by girls for being naturally slim despite being a distance runner and athlete.

15 years ago I got plenty of backhanded comments when working in a UK regional office. Lots of “you must eat nothing but lettuce leaves” stuff. Lots of talk about “real” women and “normal” (?!) weights.

The bizarre thing is, I am not “skinny”. I am just that unfortunate, unmentionable thing in some areas of British society… I am thin.

Where are the “performative undereaters” on this thread, @Thepeopleversuswork ?!

EdgyCat · 04/07/2024 08:42

@Voilafrancais were the girlfriend and ex slimmer though when they first got together? Ultra slim (IMO size 6uk and under) is more popular in places like LA or Japan. Usually, size 8 to 16uk are the most popular with men but body shape and tone matter a lot ie is he a leg man, a boob man... I think men go by how you carry the weight and men generally can fancy different body types.
