I understand this isn't for everyone but I love a good woo story. Even if you've seen/experienced something but aren't 100% sure and are on the fence, I'd love to hear your stories.

I've had a few experiences myself, nothing majorly scary just in my old house I'd often hear loud clear footsteps when nobody could be there and often saw a shadow figure, sometimes right infront of me and other times in my peripheral so can understand why people think they've seen something but can't be sure. I also worked in a pub that had some poltergeist type activity and various figures had been seen by staff and customers. I'd love to hear yours!

I once dreamt the lottery numbers, woke up and wrote down what I remembered, which was 4 numbers.
They were all right! When I saw the other numbers I remembered that they were also the number I dreamed of.
Sadly it was a big winning lottery and I won £27.
I often wonder if that was meant to be my big moment but I screwed it up 😂😂

Noooo! You should try again!

I’ve had so many experiences, the most notable being when my dad died. He passed as 2.02 am. Later that day I was helping my now late mum make the arrangements.
At exactly 2.02 pm there was a loud noise coming from the bedroom overhead, I ran upstairs and the hands on the clock of my parent’s old teasmaid machine was flying around and the kettle started rattling and heating up to make tea… the alarm was set for 8am!
My dad was a tea addict and I’m sure this was his final little joke. It happened again the next day but stopped after his funeral.

A few weeks ago I was walking into town when I greeted a man I've known slightly for years, who lived in a nearby street. We used to work at charity events together, and he's related to neighbours of mine. Large family, and well-known locally. Brief wave and mutual acknowledgement, type of thing.

Thought nothing of it until three days later when I read in the weekly paper that he'd been dead a fortnight by the time I 'saw' him.

katebushh · 04/07/2024 09:55

I've never shared this before but here goes.

About a week after my son was stillborn a fox came to the bedroom French window doors ( we lived in a higgledy piggledy apartment which would have been accessible by any nimble animal via fire escape stairs and roofs) and proceeded to tap tap tap at the door. He was there for almost 2 hours.

I honestly couldn't think straight at the time and never really speak about losing my baby boy and my partner was with me in bed half asleep at the time and he's never been able to talk about it either.

I wonder what that fox wanted and why he wouldn't go. He or she just wouldn't go away, he stared at us and tapped for hours.

I had pictures of the fox. I might see if I still them.

1- I had a life in a dream. Lived a whole 30ish years, died getting hit by a car and woke up in my bed again aged 19. Had a career, kids, husband, everything. It really messed me up for a long time. I know logically it was just a dream but I do wonder sometimes. Deep down I'm terrified of waking up again like I did before.

2 - When DS was 13 he was with his friends at the park opposite. When he was there DH suddenly got up and ran out of the house yelling something has happened to DSname. He ran straight into DS's friend coming for help because DS fell out of a tree and broke his leg 😲. DH wont even talk about it it freaks him out so much. Theres no way he could have seen or heard anything either 🥴 .

You've just reminded me of one. I was 21, working in Africa and had gone out to watch the sunset in the desert with some friends. Suddenly I heard my dad say my name quietly and gently but urgently, several times. When we got back to the city there were two letters from him which I accidentally opened in the wrong order. One said that my mum had cancer and I was to come home as it was nearly at her lymph nodes. The second said all was well, she'd had an operation and they caught it all in time. I'd heard him calling on the day he wrote to ask me to come home.

bellav · 04/07/2024 11:23

When I was 45, I had a vivid dream about my best friend from university. I dreamt he had died and that I was in a big building, trying and failing to get to his funeral in time.
We hadn't been in touch for a year or so and I made a mental note to catch up with him soon.
Then, a fewweeks later (sadly having failed to get in touch as life was busy), I received a message from his brother to say he had died of an aggressive cancer just a few weeks after diagnosis.
I wonder if my dream was at the moment he passed. Very unsettling.

Catsmere · 04/07/2024 11:34

This isn't woo, but related and it gave me a huge laugh. About ten years ago I was seeing a psychologist (about unrelated issues). I mentioned that my darling cat had visited me after she died. A few minutes later the psychologist had to leave the room to get some paperwork for me. While he was out a cat, a definite flesh and blood kitty who lived in the block of flats upstairs, wandered in, and of course I petted it. So when psychologist came back, there was I with an unknown cat sitting on my lap - and he nearly jumped out of his skin. Glorious moment.

BirthdayRainbow · 04/07/2024 11:36

@katebushh I am sorry for your loss. Thank you for showing the photo of your fox. I'd like to think he or she knew that you needed comfort.

BirthdayRainbow · 04/07/2024 11:36

@Catsmere that made me laugh. Poor psychologist.

Catsmere · 04/07/2024 11:41

Especially since I didn't think he believed me (or expected him to)! 😆

Endsofbells · 04/07/2024 11:47

I once saw a man sat on the edge of our bed. I was rushing around so it was more peripheral. Assumed it was my husband and spoke to him. Then DH called from downstairs, nobody was upstairs. I have been thinking about what I saw. It was a man who looked a bit like my DH but had fists either side of him buried into duvet and he was slightly hunched and looking down. I know what I saw. Same house I've had my name called very loudly from the bottom of the stairs. It's a new build but I seem to have shit happen no matter where I live. I hear footsteps at night. Always wake at 3am, every night. Could be anything waking me but it's a bit weird. Kids have all seen things, the youngest has seen flying creatures (toddler imagination?) and elder one lights. I've seen the lights too. Blue glowing circles. It doesn't feel awful or heavy. No cold spots. My house as a teen was pretty heavy atmosphere, felt watched. My room was freezing. If I changed my room round or decorated that would be it. Noises. My friends saw people in my room if they woke in the middle of the night. I never felt scared. My brother was held down and saw stuff but I didn't see that. I just had things appear that I was looking for or I'd dream where the item had gone. I used to talk to the person and say sorry for decorating again. Batshit I know. I sensed a man who was older, it was a very old house. Utensils flew across the kitchen when my brother was there. Obviously didn't like my sibling ha!

Have you read this experience from Reddit’s Glitch in the Matrix subreddit? It mirrors your dream experience. Sounds very unsettling.

Pleasetakeaseat · 04/07/2024 15:00

Growing up we lived in a flat that was haunted. My bedroom seemed to be the epicentre. Even in summer it was always freezing.

I have early memories of being aged 4/5 in bed trying to fall asleep, wondering why I could feel someone else's breath on my cheek.

One night I was laying there wide awake and someone hissed loudly in my ear, like I felt their breath, felt their mouth right next to my ear. I freaked out screaming my head off, my mum obviously decided I was just having bad dreams and told me to leave off

After that night I would randomly hear that noise all the time in different areas of my room, from a corner by the ceiling, from my bed, from under my dresser. It was always a sharp hiss noise, like you do when you're hiding and quietly trying to get someone's attention.

I remember organising all my colouring pencils, rubbers, sharpeners etc on my bed, turning round to get something, and the sharpener bouncing off the wall.

Every time something weird happened I'd freak out and run to my mum, and she'd insist I was having bad dreams or being silly or just making stuff up

It was only years after we moved away my mum was like "Yeah there was definitely something weird about that place" -thanks mum!

Oh also, a few years back I looked the flat up on google earth, and there was a weird shadowy face looking out my old bedroom window. Woo!

MrHarleyQuin · 04/07/2024 15:31

The house I live in now feels very friendly and calm always, though even here I had an experience recently.

Was sitting at my desk working late at night, which unusually is in one corner of the kitchen- it's nice in the daytime as I can work and look out at the garden.

I suddenly saw a shadow figure, sort of human shape and adult height, come in from the garden through the window of the patio door, into the kitchen, where it disappeared. It sounds odd to say, but I didn't feel scared, just kind of "Oh, that's interesting."

In fact even at the time I just put it down to being a bit tired as I don't normally work late, as was trying to finish something, and said something like "Oh come on now!" out loud, more to my tired brain than anything. My dog was sleeping next to me and didn't stir.

Another experience I had recently was when I was staying in a hotel for work and came back to my room in the evening. While I was taking my makeup off and cleaning my teeth in the bathroom I felt like there was someone behind me, pestering me and trying to get my attention, and I kept turning around but couldn't see anything, it was just a feeling. And I had drank a couple of glasses of wine and was quite tired. In my head I said something like "Leave me alone, I'm just trying to go to bed and get some sleep!". I did go to bed but had a very unsettled night. The next day when I arrived home my mum told me that one of her oldest friends had passed away- I had been close to her too, she was one of those friends who become like family. Sorry if it was you in the bathroom, Aunty P!

Road near where I used to live. Driven down it about a dozen times

Late one night, quite good moonlight whilst driving on my own I irrationally became terrified. Thought something was chasing me

Now I cannot go near that road, even in daylight.

Fortunately I live couple of hundred miles away but whenever we visit relatives we have to avoid it.

Don't know if that's the kind of woo you're looking for

mandymeans · 04/07/2024 15:39

Me. When I was about 4 or 5.

I kept hearing 'Shhhh' when I was putting my stuff away (I had just had a telling off from my mum to tidy my room!)

I thought I was hearing something but then it got louder, right up to my ear. A definite 'SHHH!'

I was petrified and run out. I never went into that bedroom again. Ever. I still remember the fear.

We moved house about a year later. I slept with my mum the entire time before that.

I remember it clear as day. And I remember the fear. My mum knew I wasn't talking rubbish. She believed me straight away and she isn't a 'woo' person at all

Definitely! I'm up for any kind of woo stories. That sounds chilling, especially being in a car and feeling chased. I bet you're glad you didn't have one of those ghost running out infront of you driving experiences.

I've got 1 from when I was 16 that's saved mine and my now dh life . We had to go pick something up 1 night in the winter for my dh dad . We were in the car going and near to the bridge you cross that's controlled by lights there's another set of lights with a pedestrian crossing. We stopped at the pedestrian crossing and it was on the green man even though was absolutely nobody near by but it stayed on longer than normal too . We set off and the light was just going to green for the bridge as we approached it . A car shot over the bridge that fast that if we'd have been waiting to go he'd have hit us head on and killed us but Instead he ended up swerving and going into the grass. I'm convinced someone was looking over us that night a few seconds earlier we'd have been killed

Noooo I think I would die of fright if a ghost ran out in front of me

My incident happened over 40 years ago and I still bottle it every time we go near the road.
