I understand this isn't for everyone but I love a good woo story. Even if you've seen/experienced something but aren't 100% sure and are on the fence, I'd love to hear your stories.

I've had a few experiences myself, nothing majorly scary just in my old house I'd often hear loud clear footsteps when nobody could be there and often saw a shadow figure, sometimes right infront of me and other times in my peripheral so can understand why people think they've seen something but can't be sure. I also worked in a pub that had some poltergeist type activity and various figures had been seen by staff and customers. I'd love to hear yours!

Last year, I was taking the dog for a walk through the housing estate where I live. At one point there is a tall, scrappy hedge across the road, with a narrow opening to allow pedestrians through.

As I was approaching the hedge there was a man approaching from the opposite direction. Chinos, anorak, contemprary hairdo, and with him a mature, stocky black labrador.

As he approached the gateway he moved to the side to let me and my doggy through first. When we were a few feet away from the gateway, someone to our right slammed a door very loud, and doggy and I both automatically turned to the noise momentarily.

When we turned back, man and dog were gone. There was nowhere for them to have scamped off to the other side of the hedge - they just weren't there.

Oh bloody hell why do I read these before bed! 🤣

I've told this story on a thread before.

In the late 70s, my mum went into premature labour at 28 weeks with twins, both were born around 2 hours later. One died around 36 hours after birth. It destroyed my mum, she can rarely bring herself to even mention his name, even now.
My remaining brother is severely disabled, cognitively and physically.
He's mid 40s now, his level of understanding is that of a late toddler.

Anyway, as a child, he could often be heard babbling and chatting away to himself, especially at night.
One night, he was very clearly having a conversation with someone, saying how we all were etc.
Another time he just blurted out his brothers name, then put his head down and whispered 'no, he's not here yet'
Another night the handle on his bedroom door went, like it was being opened - my brother has no lower limb function at all....

Similar to the poster above one of the homes I lived in as a teenager was odd/ haunted/ whatever word you wish to use.

There was a very bizarre heavy feeling about the house and odd goings on. So for example, we had the whole house stripped out and replastered/ decorated including loft boarded out....three months after the loft had been boarded (and we had used it several times since) I went up to help my dad put away the Christmas Dec's and a calender from 1963 fell out of the loft (so we had opened the hatch, came back down the ladders to get a box and then this calender flew down as if someone chucked it down) it was incredibly bizarre. Had all dates/ birthdays/ important events circled and little notes wrote on the sides, shopping lists and little reminders...we put the calender back with the Christmas decorations and it was never seen again. Several strange incidents like this happened over the years- a very old tin of quality streets appearing in the pantry cupboard (and then disappearing), very old fashioned shoes appearing in the shoe rack, an old box of marbles found on the hall table to name a few!

The house used to have these cold moments where your arm hair would stand up and you could feel a presence in the room, the air temperature would drop dramatically for a minute or so. The taps would run, doors would slam and ornaments/ photo frames would fall off the bookcases / shelves and the worse part was you could hear "small people" footsteps run up and down the corridors both day and night...as if a kid was running up and down between the bedrooms this happened no matter where you were in the house. I was so so so glad to leave that house, I've not lived in a house like it since and never want to live in one again!

Soubriquet · 03/07/2024 22:37

Years ago, when I lived in an old pub with my parents, I woke up to get ready for work. As I went down the stairs, I heard someone shout my name, as if right my by ear. Shit the life out of me…but no one was there

Soubriquet · 03/07/2024 22:43

Also, not long after my great grandad died, we were all gathered at my nans house for a memorial. I was only about 4 and I needed the toilet but refused to go upstairs. When asked, I said (according to my mum), that I couldn’t go upstairs because grandad wouldn’t let me. There as a shadow on the wall.

bevelino · 03/07/2024 22:52

I was staying overnight with a friend in my twenties. My friend said you take my bed and I will sleep on a mattress on the floor. She then told me that her boyfriend refused to stay overnight because he felt someone poking him while he was sleeping.

After the lights went out, I suddenly felt someone tucking me in really tightly. I asked my friend if she was poking and tucking me in and she said that’s exactly what my boyfriend used to say. It was a very strange feeling.

My 4yo DD comes out with some right creepy stuff. She told us she had another mama and tata? that’s what she called her last mummy and daddy, she had 2 sisters, a brother and she lived near a river called Rega. I thought she was getting mixed up as we live next to a famous Scottish river as in we can see it out our window. Since she’s been born we haven’t left the country so can’t say she’s remembered something from a holiday or the like but thought nothing of it and nodded along.

A few months later I’m picking her up from nursery and meet the mum of another little girl that started at the nursery 2 weeks prior. The mum asked me what side of the family is Polish? I told her none of us were, all born here including our own parents, grandparents etc. She looked a bit baffled and told me on the first day her DD started that my DD said Czesc “Jemima “?? to her daughter. Had no idea what she was talking about and said it must be a made up word or she’s got it mixed up as they are learning Gaelic and Spanish to which she informed me no, she said hello in Polish, told her all about Rega and her mama and tata? I asked her if she knew what that means as this has been going on for a while now and she said yeah, that’s what some people call their mum and dad in Polish and Rega is a river in Poland.

Needless to say that creeped me right out lol!!

Thepossibility · 03/07/2024 23:21

One day after school my siblings and I were walking up the front stairs my little sister (maybe 5 at the time) said “grandpa has died." Later my dad called us in to where he was sitting to tell us some news and my sister repeated “grandpa has died". My dad was so shocked, asking how could she possibly have known that?
Grandpa had been in great health, fit and doing great but had died suddenly from complications caused by an undetected deep vein thrombosis from a flight from UK to Australia.

I’m still here for the grandfather clock missing chains mystery.

What’s that?

Tellmeyourwoostories · 03/07/2024 23:33

I'm loving reading these, thanks for sharing.

@1AnotherOne I've seen your story before, I guarantee hospitals are full of woo and it goes to show that we can easily be seeing things/"people" not realising they're not of this realm. It's rare for 2 people to see a ghost at the same time, so bet it was weird for you and your patient!

@Rhaidimiddim how weird, especially as he looked modern and even stepped out of the way for you and your dog. Mind you that doesn't sound a bad way to be spending your time in the afterlife lol, walking with your beloved DDog. I've seen a few stories like these before on here where people have been out walking and acknowledged someone for that person to then vanish out of thin air. I went to a clairvoyant night once and we got asked to share our woo stories, a woman said she was walking her dog and also moved her and her dog out of the way to let a man pass and as she looked up from the dog to the man he completely vanished and there was nowhere for him to have gone.

Reading these hotel/B&B type stories remind me that my DM stayed in a Airbnb in Cornwall not too long ago and she said the atmosphere in it was horrendous. She spent as much time out as she could and has said it was one of the most uncomfortable atmospheres she's felt in a place and she holidays often.

I’m still here for the grandfather clock missing chains mystery.

Sorry - nothing to update really. The original chains are still missing.

The clock is ticking away happily and all is quiet here at present thank goodness!

However I did see something inexplicable at Nunney castle a few months ago. It's supposed to be very haunted, so we and some friends, planned to be there at dusk. We'd had a meal in the village pub ( highly recommended) and walked back to the car via the castle.

For those who don't know it, it's the shell of a fortified manor house with turrets on all four sides and a moat around it. The only access is over a footbridge and the path around on the inside is blocked off.

I'd left my walking stick at the pub so had to go back for it whilst everyone else went on ahead. I followed a couple of minutes later. They were waiting for me on the far side of the footbridge. We all went in and watched this black cloaked figure walk past the window openings. There is no way he could have got there without going past either my friends or me. Then he just vanished.

I went to see a psychic once. Bizarre experience, she literally kept looking over my shoulder, saying my spirit guides are trying to tell me blah blah blah. The whole thing was a jumbled, confusing, nonsensical hot mess.

Until it wasn't. Everything she said was true - even the proper, actual names of people. It played out about 2 weeks later, then it all made sense, every word. It was crystal clear.

I had a similar experience. Went to a group (as in, large audience) session of a supposedly famous psychic from England (never heard of this person). Most of the stuff they said made me think "Yeah, cold reading, nothing to see here" until they suddenly described, very accurately, a man standing next to me twining a lock of my hair round his finger. There was only one person it could be, he was long dead, and there was no way this random person could have been tipped off.

PToosher · 03/07/2024 23:48

As a child of about 8 I had a recurring nighttime experience of a dark figure appearing in my bedroom that whispered to me in a threatening way. It had a sort of blue light bathing it but it was completely a shadow - no features visible. I took to hiding under the bedclothes and as I grew older I concluded it was a repeat nightmare.
When I was about 18 my mum had a frightening 'supernatural' experience in our house. When my parents told me about it, she said 'Other things have happened over the years, when you were 7 or 8 your Dad got up in the night to go to the loo and saw a blue light under your bedroom door and could hear whispering from in the room. When he opened the door, the light faded away and your were asleep right under your bedclothes.'

A few weeks ago I couldn't sleep so I went into another bedroom at around 4am so as not to disturb DH. I was lying on my front trying to sleep and I felt the duvet being pulled off the bed then hands around my neck trying to strangle me. I had a weird mind over matter sleepy chat with myself (them?) and it stopped. I thought nothing of it and just assumed it was some trying-to-sleep nightmare. But about 4 days later I received an email from a relative (I am estranged from all of the others) to tell me my step-father had died unexpectedly 4 days ago. I wasn't given any further detail and I didn't ask because the last time I saw him 15 years ago he had tried to strangle me.

😮🤯

ZiggyZowie · 03/07/2024 23:56

About ten years ago I had an experience.
I couldn't sleep one night as I had severe chest pains. I thought it's probably acid indigestion or something. But it did feel like it was on my left side and painful.
The following week I got news an old friend had died of a heart attack.
The time of his death was exact same time and day I had chest pain.

Did an ouija board by myself when I was about 13. It told me when and how I'd die. Hope to fuck I was moving it in some way.

Melted9876 · 04/07/2024 00:23

Great uncle's brother was killed when the roof fell in on him in the mines. Great Uncle was about 14 at the time and took his dead brother's job. On his first day down the mine his dad took him down and told him to wait somewhere while he went to speak to the boss. Great Uncle then heard his dead brother calling him and went to look where the voice was coming from. Came back and the roof had fallen in where he was stood.

My ds when he was around 2 used to say he picked me to be his mummy as he could tell I was sad , I'd lost 10 Bavarian before I had him , he obviously didn't know this . Also walking along rose st in Edinburgh we passed a pub and he said that where he'd died when he was here before . My eldest son said a man's head would come through his bedroom wall his name was Christopher and he had drowned when he was 47! He refused to sleep in that room as Christopher would annoy him . We moved him into another bedroom and he slept really well. My youngest son in now in his own room. I cleansed it with sage and fingers crossed it's fine now. Also years before my sons were born my brother had stayed in that room and when he got up he had deep scratch marks down his back.
My house was built in 1988 so not an old house , it was previously a petrol station and before that I'm not sure but I live in a very old village the house behind me was built roughly 1700's and has a well in it, I can't find anything about a drowning in the area

typicaltuesdaynight · 04/07/2024 07:18

It's so weird, isn't it! If only our precognitive dreams could be put to some use, like winning the lottery!

I once dreamt the lottery numbers, woke up and wrote down what I remembered, which was 4 numbers.
They were all right! When I saw the other numbers I remembered that they were also the number I dreamed of.
Sadly it was a big winning lottery and I won £27.
I often wonder if that was meant to be my big moment but I screwed it up 😂😂
